Night and day difference between Wilson's style and Murphy's. Not that one style is better than the other -- either can work or fail, depending on the player -- but Wilson is generally a laid- back, let-'em-play type of coach whereas Murphy is more of an intense type who drives players hard. - bmeltzer
If Wilson can get Provorov and Ghost out of their own head and just get back to playing like they have in previous years, it could be the best move they did this year. |

They should try to score more goals than Columbus. |

Yes to this.
I’ve noticed Gudas and Hagg somewhat picking up the slack for the top 2 guys. Well, maybe that’s not quite right, but they have at least been steady and solid lately. I think if Amac can at least play at last year’s level of “good” that will help also.
I think Sanheim is gaining confidence and hope to see him continue to grow and have a big 2nd half of the season.
But the biggest factor is Provy getting his groove back. If that doesn’t happen then a push to make the playoffs will be nearly impossible. |

Agreed. This team has a tough enough road ahead to make the playoffs even if things are going well. Provy returning to form is a must.

I am on the Stolie bandwagon. I don't know that he'll become "the guy" but even if he ends becoming a competent back up, I'll be happy. |

Looking at the Columbus roster, they really made a good deal picking up Seth Jones as their number 1D man and then drafting Dubois to replace Ryan Jo in 2016 as their #1 center.
The Panarin trade and letting Jack Johnson walk were both wins. I like how they are managed.
Can’t stand the coach though. |

The Flyers are going on a run.... Everyone talks about them being in 15th place in the conference, which is true, but it is also true they are 5 points out of 3rd place with a game in hand. They are going to turn it around just like they did last year.
Edit: screw team negative. |

This game should be a good test. I expect a rough start as it will probably take the Flyers at least half a period to get their game legs back and the BJs should be in a foul mood after giving up 9 in their last game. If they can weather the storm, and get out of the first period tied, or worst case just down one, I think they can win this game.
I have a feeling we are going to see strong games from both Provorov and Ghost. I'm guessing that Wilson will have them relaxed and ready to go. The other keys, besides those 2 Dmen playing well, will be for Stolarz to have a strong game (especially early on) and for some line other than the top line to get things going and generate some sustained offensive pressure. Having the pp start clicking wouldn't hurt too. |

Let's go for the mid-90s instead.... Lindros at his absolute peak, Renberg pre-100% pelvic muscle tear averaging north of a point per game for his first 2 1/2 seasons, LeClair seemingly invincible, Brind'Amour mid-Iron Man streak, Desjardins pre-ACL tear at full speed with all the hockey smarts he always had, Hextall in good form in 95-96, the Minnesota Line as the third line, and going a full month without being on the ice for a single opposing goal, Therien coming off NHL All-Rookie team season (and not even paired yet with Desjardins at the time; as Kevin Haller occupied that spot with his former Montreal teammate). PK ranked 2nd at 85.8 percent with 12 shorties scored (1995-96), power play ranked 6th (same year). - bmeltzer

The Simmonds situation is more tricky then I think people want to believe. He’s one of those players that if he succeeds elsewhere, those fans wishing him gone now, will only blame the GM for trading him or not getting enough, etc. |

Simmonds shouldn't be re-signed, he should be traded. Hopefully Fletcher's reign as GM doesn't start with him committing big money and term to a guy whose best days are behind him. Patrick and JVR can replace his PP production, and it's time to start putting young players like NAK in the top 9 to see what they can do at 5on5 in the NHL. - Feanor
Anybody who signs a long term contract now is gonna be looking for a NMC to avoid being taken in the expansion draft, too. Flyers can't afford to tie up any protection slots in vets w/ the # of valuable kids they have. |

Agreed. I love Simmonds, but unless he's willing to take a 4 year deal with no protection other than a limited NTC, it's time to trade him. |

Do you really see them giving up the assets it would take? I could see a guy like muzzin more likely. 2 years older team friendly contract for this and next year. - Tfaehner
I've been asking for Muzzin quite some time now on here. like you said team friendly contract, very solid player, could help PP2 possibly, I wouldn't think it would cost anything too significant. |
