Will be a great test to see where the team really is. The Flyers are rested and Jackets let one get away from them...let the evaluation begin...

Obviously he hasn't had the time but does Wilson different in his ideology of how to run his defense from murphy/hasktol? How much input does he get in that with hasktol system ?

Bill, do you give any credence to the Parayko rumors? While it would be great to add him, I don't think the cost would be worth it...

I didn't realize the Flyers PK had climbed out of the 60% range. Outstanding.

Not Bill but I give no credibility to any blockbuster rumors. Fletch if we take him at face value has said there will be an evaluation period first where he gets to know the team and the prospects. Imagine he traded frost and o'Brien this year and they become top 6s in the NHL before he even got a chance to evaluate them? I think if anything you would see a veteran goalie for now and I think closer to the deadline you could see a bigger trade or simmer trade.

He would be a fool not to look into this and a bigger one not to try and "up the price" for New York or Toronto. I could give something like Sanheim or Myers, Rubtsov. and a pick for him... Not much more. But I could offer a bit more to make New York pay more.

I could see the Flyers having interest, and Fletcher being willing to go north of what Hexy would have been willing to part with. However, I don't think Parayko ultimately gets moved or Fletcher would get him at all costs. I do think the team would like to add a proven NHL defenseman of about Parayko's age.

Overall, though, I think the top two items on the Fletcher agenda will be to figure out what to do with the Simmonds negotiation and, unless Stolarz continues to play well and can be the guy to pair with Elliott (once he returns) the rest of this season, go get a goalie. I doubt they are counting on much from Neuvirth, given the constant injury risk.

Do you really see them giving up the assets it would take? I could see a guy like muzzin more likely. 2 years older team friendly contract for this and next year.

The question I have is why would the Blues be looking to trade away Parayko in the first place?

Night and day difference between Wilson's style and Murphy's. Not that one style is better than the other -- either can work or fail, depending on the player -- but Wilson is generally a laid- back, let-'em-play type of coach whereas Murphy is more of an intense type who drives players hard.

Thanks Bill...I just could not image the Blues not wanting a king's ransom for him...

Bill, do you have an impression of what kind of goalie they will be looking for if Stolarz doesn't work out? Meaning will they be looking for a veteran back-up, a 1-B back-up, or someone better then Elliot that would make Elliot the back-up?

I keep hearing Quick and Schneider who are just as injury prone. Anderson which might be the 1-B type of goalie, and Crawford and Howard.

Is anyone giving Steve Mason a call?

Plus he’s got a computer brain and video eyes...and built-in analytics in his gut!

Edit: forgot about the first page issues. I was responding to a comment about Rick Wilson’s coaching style vs. Murphy.

From what I understand -- it's second-hand, but from someone who knows him pretty well -- Mason has had several calls but unless it involves a situation he wants to join, has said no. If he doesn't play again, he's OK with that, too. Enjoying being a dad, has had injuries (including post-concussion issues that lingered much of last season) and has made quite a bit of money through hockey.

Gonna be a tough win tonight, I think. Flyers coming off of a long rest might be a little rusty and Columbus has lost 2 in a row. Maybe the Flyers can get back some of that late 90's mojo for 90's night

Let's go for the mid-90s instead.... Lindros at his absolute peak, Renberg pre-100% pelvic muscle tear averaging north of a point per game for his first 2 1/2 seasons, LeClair seemingly invincible, Brind'Amour mid-Iron Man streak, Desjardins pre-ACL tear at full speed with all the hockey smarts he always had, Hextall in good form in 95-96, the Minnesota Line as the third line, and going a full month without being on the ice for a single opposing goal, Therien coming off NHL All-Rookie team season (and not even paired yet with Desjardins at the time; as Kevin Haller occupied that spot with his former Montreal teammate). PK ranked 2nd at 85.8 percent with 12 shorties scored (1995-96), power play ranked 6th (same year).

Simmonds shouldn't be re-signed, he should be traded. Hopefully Fletcher's reign as GM doesn't start with him committing big money and term to a guy whose best days are behind him. Patrick and JVR can replace his PP production, and it's time to start putting young players like NAK in the top 9 to see what they can do at 5on5 in the NHL.
