Not sure how this is going to turn out, looking up details now, but trading a 1st round pick at the deadline, want to see if the cup winners ever did that in the same year...

Here are the winners and biggest trade at deadline

2018 Capitals - trade during year: (players they got)
Adam Chapie
Joe Whitney
Michal Kempny
Jakub Jerabek

2017 Penguins - trades during the year: (players they got)
Ron Hainsey
Frank Corrado
Mike Condon

2016 Penguins - trades during the year: (players they got)
Matthias Plachta
James Melindy
Dan O`Donoghue
Dustin Jeffrey
Justin Schultz (for a 3rd round pick)
Carl Hagelin (traded two roster players)

2015 Blackhawks - trades during the year: (players they got)
Antoine Vermette (for 1st rounder)
Kimmo Timonen (for 2nd round pick)
T.J. Brennan
Adam Clendening

2014 LA Kings - trades during the year: (players they got)
2nd round pick
2nd round pick
Brayden McNabb
Jonathan Parker
(above from Sabres)
Marian Gaborik (second rounder)
Steve Quailer
Andrew Crescenzi

So I guess my point is, to win the cup, those teams build through draft and dont trade 1st rounders at deadline of cup winning season. (am I reaching on this point?)

- Lilroot9

Personally, I hope the Blues end up keeping their pick this year because I'm hoping that Botts doesn't trade any of the 1st rounders we have. The one thing that stands out the most from what's going on here to what's going on in TO at the moment, is the amount of depth we have. Outside of Asplund and Olofsson, there's not a ton of quality depth at forward in the A at the moment. Botts has manged to restock the cupboards a bit, but there's still plenty of work to be done.

Yes and actual salary Jack is 10 across the board, McDavid makes 15 this year. 15, 14, 13, 15, 12, 11, 10, 10 and almost all in bonuses his highest pay across the entire contract is 3. Jack only has two years with bonuses and they're both 7.5.

They need 5 points in this stretch.
2-0-1 is not too much to ask here, IMO.

- ImThatGuy

4 points would suffice.

Especially a win vs. Philadelphia

Ever since the Ivan Hlinka tournament in the summer scouts and GM’s were saying that his draft is looking really good and that 1st rounders were going to be nearly impossible to acquire in the rental or any trade market whatsoever. We have 3 of them. I believe St.Louis can make a run at the 11-15 range where we get their pick. Even if they don’t maybe they give us this years pick anyways and avoid being in the same situation that ottawa is in this year.

Broken record sure, but over a point a game, power play specialist (ours sucks), Sabres are off til Saturday which means there's plenty of time to practice. Trade/waive someone and call him up.
- jcragcrumple

Have you looked at the standings recently?

Sabres are in a great position.

There's definitely a team bond going on. Why disrupt anything?

All 4 losses were coin tosses. (3) 3rd period leads.

Does oloffson play defense? Help hold a lead?

I mentioned this to Homie last week, but for a money in, money out deal, i would do Anisimov for Berglund, Elie, Sabres 2020 2nd, and this year's 3rd (if Pitt gets the 3rd, then CHI gets the 4th and and a pick next year or something). Or instead of the 3rd, throw in a prospect

This year and 2 more at $4.5 for Anisimov. It would give us good short-term coverage at 2C and the price point is fine for a 3C when Mittelstadt is ready. We get the bonus of moving on from Berglund, who frankly hasn't worked at all.

Chicago and (soon) Pittsburgh will be rebuilding.

The last person a team wants to rebuild around is berglund. It's fun to include him in trades, but that's laughable.

No chance

Most every trade in the NHL is gonna be money in/money out. CHI needs picks and prospects. Cash has to go the over way. Berglund/Sobotka/Scandella. Pick one + picks and prospects to make the cash work

This a deep draft if you want a C or wingers. Not so good if you’re looking for defense. I assume some defense man will be selected higher as well allowing for some really good prospects to fall right into our lap. Maybe why botts selected a few years worth of d-men in last years draft

To your previous point about the firsts:

Something that's been bouncing around in my head, and it's a reason, i think, to use one of those firsts: If Eichel gets hurt for 10-15 games, we are so (frank)ed. I don't think there's a team in the league that would be more (frank)ed if they lost their 1C

I would like to think they'd give his minutes to Mittelstadt, but i almost think that Sobotka becomes the 1C.

15 games, and the season is cooked imo

I agree completely.

But , the ror trade wouldn't have happened without the Sabres taking on a downhill player with salary.

Have to include good picks

Here is a really early look at the 2020 draft as well for those interested. Corey Pronman says that out of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 drafts that 2019 is the strongest so take that as you will.

https://theathletic.com/6...2020-nhl-draft-prospects/

If you guys can't read the article let me know and ill post it in the forum. Just scared it will take up a lot of room.

Here is Pronman's view of the 2019 draft class:

https://theathletic.com/5...s-for-the-2019-nhl-draft/

"My way too early assessment of the 2019 NHL Draft is that this is an above-average draft class. The class has a significant number of forwards who I think can be impact players. The talent up front, and particularly down the middle, is very strong; however, I don’t think this is a great draft if your team wants a defenseman."

Davidsson has more offensive upside then Asplund. I see both players as staples in our bottom 6 though when it’s all said and done.

Berglund reminds me a lot of when we had Legwand. Good vet but nothing much more than a 4th line defensive plug.

I think he’s somwhere between legwand and Hecht’s last couple of seasons.

Watched the third and overtime of the Blues v Oilers last night (Blues collapsed and lost in the shootout after holding a one goal lead into the third).

It was mentioned that the Blues have lost the most one goal games in the league this year. Didn't the Sabres have a similar stat last year? Regardless, winning "coin tosses" is what good teams do. I would really like to see the Sabres dominate a few of these upcoming games though.

Unless Scandella is ready on Saturday, we could possibly see Tennyson recalled. Please god no.

The other possibility is for Borgen to get the call. I'd much rather see that to be honest.
