I wrote about it for 670 The Score and it will be posted soon, but the Blackhawks interest in Sam Gagner was confirmed to me earlier today. Not sure what they'd give to get him, but the interest is there.

Jay usually has some good sources.

Maybe this is related to the Seabrook news I heard? A larger deal perhaps?

Thanks for the update, JL. I think Q was the first domino, and if Seabs goes, the other core will follow. Losing Kane will suck beyond suck.

Bowman scouting the Kings heavily, lord help us. Please god don't mortgage the future to make this team win an extra 4 games.

I'd like to know who he is looking at. I've got my eye on some players in LA.

This a team in transition. It should be interesting to see how this plays out. New coach. Young goalies and dmen in the pipeline. A few forwards with potential in Strome, Entwistle, Sikura. A couple more playing in Russia. Some cap flexibility this year and more cap space next year. A very high first round pick this summer. A few tradeable commodities (but for the most part the only thing you will get back is cap space and a low level prospect and late round picks). An expansion draft coming up in 2 years.

Hindsight is 20/20. We can look back at bad deals and signings (there were also some good ones). We can blame Rocky, McD, Stan and Q. I choose to look forward and see the possibilities. We might suck this year and maybe next. But a lot can happen in a year or two if you have cap space and good draft picks.

Let's say for S's and G's that we get #1, and Vancouver gets #2. What would it take for us to swap picks and get Pettersson? IMO, Vancouver would overpay to draft Quinn's brother at #1 at home, but there's no way they give us #2 and Pettersson. Maybe if they're picking 5 or 6 though.

There is no universe anywhere where Vancouver trades Pettersson. He is about as untouchable as any young player in the game.

Here's what I think the lines should be once Murphy gets back:
Saad-Toews-Kane
Debrincat-Strome-Perlini
Anisimov-Kampf-Kahun
Fortin-Kruger-Hayden

Keith-Jokiharju
Forsling-Seabrook
Rutta-Murphy

Crawford

Let teams worry about the top line for once. See if Kampf-Kahun can keep things up a bit. Who knows with the bottom line.

He led the Swedish Elite League in scoring as a teenage rookie. Something no one has done since Kent Nilsson in 1976.

No one is trading him for anything. On a bad team, you are looking for young difference makers to rebuild your team. Which he is. Why on earth would you trade him for an undrafted player, who would be a question mark?

That is like being married to a supermodel, and leaving her to go out on a blind date.

Example Colorado. For awhile Joe Sakic was a pokey, non decision making dummy GM with a coach who quit on him. Joe's lookin a little smarter these days.

The difference between Burnaby Joe and Stanbo is one knows a hockey player when he sees one and the other is an accountant.

Toews and Kane haven’t played that well together. I like this if they are kept together long enough to see if they can improve on that. Fortin hasn’t been great but I’d like to see him or Hayden with Kampf and Kahun to see how fast that line could play.

The sad part is some posters will see this absurd trade proposal and then complain because Bowman didn't make it.

I was just thinking the same thing. While I think taking Sam Gagner is just another "wish and a prayer" move, if Seabrook and his contract were heading the other way I would be for it.

I like Seabrook and all he's done but, it's time for him to be a 5/6 d-man with limited minutes and a veteran presence on a rebuilding team.

Hawks would have to take a bad contract / salary back and this would help fit that bill. I think if it happens its announced after Thursdays game or Friday am. After tomorrow the Canucks dont play until Sunday.

The schedule is pretty nutzo the back end of December. So if it were to happen before months end this may be the most convenient time.

Unless more then one roster player moving, I'd suspect someone else is activated. Maybe why they brought Murphy on the trip. Could happen tonight and he may play tomorrow.

What in the world is Stan thinking ? Sam gagner is Stans big splash for offense.

If not Seabrook, move AA (if waives NM clause) for Gagner? Not sure of his K status though…

If salary is retained by Vancouver, is Gagner an improvement over Kruger, AA or Kampf? Or if we play him as a winger, Kahun, Fortin or Perlini?

A couple of things:

1) The 'hawks are playing like its shinny out there. No one seems to know where anyone is going to be. Hopefully that will improve with time and knowledge of the system.

2) In re: free agents. Don't forget, there's an opt out to the CBA next September and I think one or both sides are going to use it. Doesn't make a ton of sense to sign big money free agents when you don't know what's on the other side of negotiations. The Blackhawks already got burned once (perhaps twice if you include Keith) and I can't imagine they want to again.

Your point #1 is the biggest issue lately and is 100% about the coaching change. The effort is there a lot of the time but the attention to detail is not. Science tells us that it usually takes (on average) about 66 days to change a habit or for things to become automatic. I'm not trying to prove or disprove that science and that might not be exact with regards to hockey players and their habits on the ice, but I think it is safe to say it can take some time to get the kinks worked out and for guys to be all on the same page. We see guys putting in the effort, but making mistakes on coverage. The team had some issues under Q and we know the roster isn't deep, but things have only gotten worse because of these details they keep missing. I think the season could have been salvageable under Q, but they fired him (ripping the band-aid off) and it's gonna take some time to get the ship sailing on course. Once some of the things on the ice become second nature, guys will start operating at full speed and making less mistakes (hopefully).

I’m not sure the owners would opt out - they aren’t going to do any better than the 50/50 HRR split - I don’t know what other issues they may have. Don’t forget - they offerred to let the league participate in the last Olympics if the players agreed to not opt out of the CBA early.

The players have a big issue - the escrow - which may be the opt out issue. Also they may want to get a bigger share of HRR, referencing the $1.15B the league got for expansion - which they don’t share in.

All just speculation on my part.

- StLBravesFan

It could very well be that both sides will choose not to opt out. The players may not want to be locked out again. I know the players might not like it, but they might not have a choice if the owners play hardball again to get them in line. 100% I think the league took the Olympics away just to use it as a bargaining chip to get something else in the next CBA.

Not sure why they would but I think people are talking about only taking Gagner if salary is taken.

I also heard the hawks have been heavily scouting the la , Calgary and Edmonton games ?

Calgary is so desperately in need of a goaliemaybe crow waives his NMC.

Stan's picked up both team's garbage recently, both teams could make decent trade partners.
