Seattle Scurvy. Logo has a pic of ill, hunched over sailor. Every time they score a playoff goal, the fans throw limes on ice. Thats where the term limey came from since lime was used to treat scurvy. Celebrates westcoast mariner heritage and rolls right off the lips🤣🤣🤣 |

They constantly battle to keep another team out of a 100 mile radius, because that's what the rules say they can do, and it would be stupid to allow competition into the area.
Not really hard to figure out. - Atomic Wedgie
100 miles is not very much. Are you saying Ontario is only 100 square miles? I didn't mean put 2 more teams downtown Toronto. I am sure Ontario could fit a couple more teams.
How far away do you think NYC or the Prudential center is from Philly? How far away do you think Anaheim is away from LA? The big markets in the US tend to have multiple teams in close proximity. So your reasoning wouldn't make sense unless....a team wanted to have control over a much larger territory than everyone else. |

They should just take the fantasy route and take the funniest pun they can think of when they get their roster together. |

Forget about Quebec, NHL needs to move 2 more teams into the greater Ontario area to capitalize on that money. That province is the size of Spain supporting 1 team, where most other areas are a quarter the size and supporting at least 2 teams.
Add 2 more teams and people will be buying tickets and merch for all of them just to see who wins a cup first. That's win-win for everyone. - Glak18
Disagree. Yes the province is huge and they have a lot of people. The trouble is, these people are most likely already Leaf fans and are unlikely to change their fan allegiance. You would most likely sell out every game (because Ontario loves their hockey) but would struggle to develop a strong fan base for these 2 new teams.
Case in point - the Devils came to NJ and most hockey fans were already either a Rags, Isles or Flyers fan, therefore hurting NJ's ability to draw a large fan base. To this day each of these 3 teams mentioned has a larger fan base than NJ. Me personally - I dropped the Isles and started rooting for the Devils in 1982, but I would be hard pressed to think many Leafs fans would switch to one of these new proposed teams....especially now when a Cup may be in sight. |

If it was up to MLSE they would get rid of all Canadian teams so they could get the revenue from the whole country then tell everyone if it wasn't for them the NHL wouldn't exist. - Glak18

It's not my reasoning - it's the rules in the NHL constitution.
When the Islanders entered the league, they paid the Rangers.
When the Ducks entered the league, they paid the Kings (McNall needed the cash flow).
It's pretty standard in any franchise agreement - you get territorial rights.
The NHL denied it for years, but it came to light in bankruptcy hearings for the Coyotes:
