Oh I am sure we will hear how Matthews is as good as gone.
The Jets don't get this crap.

- RogerRoeper

To be fair, no one (outside of Winnipeg) gives a (frank) about the Jets.

That TSN CFL bloke tried to spark some interest, but was never heard of since.

Nylander has sat out 30.5% of the season. Had he signed for 6 million- he has given up 1.83 million USD dollars. The avg salary for a Cdn as of 2017 was $986 a week – or just over $51,000 a year. You have to work 49 years at 51k to earn what he has turned down in 3 months.

Naw, it's only the Maple Leafs RFA's that ask for $15M per season.
- PatC80

Yeah but aside from contracts they suck and are overrated.

William Nylander is in town, Leafs Zealots.
I’s being dotted. t’s being crossed. Hang in there. It’s done.

- BreathLeafs2015

Or maybe Nylander knows that a deal isn't getting done - so he's just come back to Toronto to get his winter boots and return his library books.

It's true... Now that Andreas Johnsson got his first career hat trick out of way, I fully expect him to ask for an 8 yr/$56M deal.

The best was Latrell Spreewell saying he "Needs to Feed His Family" after getting a 100 million contract offer he deemed inadequate.

Is this true?

I really need to know.

Dammit - I can't wait for you to reply - I'm just going to go down there myself for a couple of hours and see if he's there.

Honestly, just the simple move of rearranging the defence would help a lot.

Rielly - Dermott
Gards - Oz
Hainous - Zaitsev

While you're at it, let's find someone to take Z's contract

- lumlums

I did not like the contract when it was signed and like it even less now.
Z for sanheim.

Mikko Koivu and Filpulla are both 49 years old.
- PatC80

Yeah, but there's pretty slim pickings and they usually throw an ancient guy or two on there.

So when Nylander signs for a great deal at 6 years, how soon til the media starts panicking around Matthews and Marner instead?

Bonus: Does anyone ever talk about how on Earth the Lightning are going to afford Point, and how crucial it is that they do?

- mcleafs

Forget them panicking over those two.

When Nylander signs a deal structured in a way he's getting paid $7M, but his cap hit is much less, for the remainder of his contract, do you have any idea how fast fans of other teams are going to lose their minds?

Nylander and Matthews with their ability to control the puck will help our defense.

However, I disagree with you, I still think we need to add a defenseman. We don't need a Doughty or a big name guy, but I think a guy like Brett Pesce would be really good here. Even if all it does is move Hainsey down to the 3rd pairing.

- PatC80

Agreed.
No top 3 dman is coming. But a quality 4/5 would be helpful. Just to push others down.

Dubas has played this down to a T. Played it like grizzled vet GM. We're spoiled to have him

Wait until hes signed.

I don't want just a victory.

I want complete and utter humiliation.

I want Nylander to apologize to Leafs Nation.

I want the contract for 8 years, under $5 million, no restrictions.

I want Dubas to make Nylander sign in a railway car in the Compiegne Forest.
