Unless Bergevin is ready to scorch his assets to get Panarin, trading a game breaker will put Kekaleinen on the short end , regardless if he walks for nothing. Maybe if the cbj are not on pace to making the playoffs I see this happening .

I didn't think Nate Thompson would garner any interest but he's a good utility bottom 6 player. Seems like that's the prototype of player Lamarillo brought in to the Islanders. He's a good penalty killer, good on faceoffs, hard worker. Anything the Kings could get for him I'm sure they'd be thrilled

Yeah, the problem is the Islanders already have approximately 5 or 6 fourth liners

Similar to how the leafs traded JVR for a top 4 defenseman last TDL.

Don't need any hindsight. It was obvious the Leafs weren't Cup contenders and that JVR would not be re-signed. Should've been traded

So the GM basically tells his team that he has no confidence in their ability to win it and ships out one of their best scorers for "the missing piece that'll take them to the promise land"? Anything can happen in the playoffs, if you are doing as well as the leafs were doing at that point I don't think it's a great idea to ship out one of your top guys. You play your hand and go for it, just my opinion.

What assets do the Flames have that the Leafs could use?
You know without dumping salary.
