From the last thread.

I've attempted to make this point numerous times. Few goalies could keep the Pens afloat with how they're playing. If most of these were perimeter shots, then I'd say ok, he's (frank)in terrible, but they are allowing so many high danger/high quality chances in front of him.

I didn't watch last night's game, but JUST looking at the stats, it seems the Pens played a fairly solid game in front of him, so I don't know for sure since I didn't watch.

They did play a decent game defensively. But Malkin and Kessel took penalties on the same play that put them down 5v3 for a full two minutes. Blatant penalties that had to be called. Then... the guy they brought in for "experience" took an obvious tripping penalty 5 seconds into the kill. He pushed out Millers legs from behind right in the middle of the ice. So obvious. It was like one of those guys that robs a bank without a mask while staring directly into the camera. I hang the game on those 3 actually.

Still, my comments about Murray stand. I simply don't expect him to make big saves anymore.

Call up Jarry, sit Murray until he can get out of his own head.

I don't think JJ is a first pairing D, but he has been OK with Letang. He had a competent/quiet night last night and made a few really nice under the radar plays.

I'm saying this because he'll only get mentioned when he has bad games.

He’s afraid to play the younger guys who he didn’t coach in WB/S.

When is Riley Sheahan going to do anything at all?

Penguins yellow jerseys they debuted last night looked great.

Good blog Ryan. I agree with all of it especially the above points.

Point's first PPG was an absolute snipe. Didn't see the other 2. Id like to think most NHL goalies would have had Gourde's shot but again it was a perfectly placed shot.

You can't take that many penalties and hope to survive against a team with that much fire power.

Yeah they totally shot themselves in the foot in the final 30 seconds of the 1st and they deserved all 3 of those boneheaded penalties IMO. The game was a disjointed mess for both teams. Way too many penalties both ways over all (some against the Pens were laughable). That many penalties just F's the whole flow of the game up.

I really feel like this team is due for a breakout soon, I really do. I think their play has been trending in the right direction the last 4 games. Last night dumb penalties was their undoing.

He should be 4C. He would do more there.

When he isn't playing with Cullen and Hornqvist

Ideal lines when healthy imo:

Jake - Sid - Hornqvist
Brassard - Geno - Kessel
Pearson - Sheahan - Rust
ZAR - Simon - Sprong

Personally I think the Pens looked like the better team at 5v5. I listened to the first period via Lange but I watched the 2nd and 3rd and I thought the Pens had the better chances at 5v5, maybe not by much but it didn’t seem like the Lightning were getting to the high danger areas often.

I disagree. It’s not about where he’s slotted it’s more about QoT imo.

Sheahan has to play center to be effective. Playing wing with Cullen is reminiscent of why they thought he was sucking in DET when the moved him to Glendenings wing.

Cap friendly lists both ZAR and Simon as C/W so it would be worth a shot since I have no reason to believe Cullen is an NHL player any more. Either way that line would get very sheltered usage.

The one game I felt JO played like he's 6'7 and he gets 2 penalties. 1 for simply out muscling a smaller player. He was attacking all night.

I bet he gets toned down next game.

Horny had his best game of the season

Game was even at 5v5 based on the stats.

CF was 33 to 33 and HDCF was 8 to 7 in favor of the Pens

I think Simon at C is the same concept as Guentzel at C: has played C his entire life but is definitely not an NHL caliber C. That being said, I’d prefer that set up than Matt Cullen at 3C. At least Brassard is skating.

So mostly backing up the 3 bone headed penalties did them in thoughts. That Cullen one was laughable.

If they're attempting to have "4 scoring lines", that's the only way this roster makes sense. I agree....Brass needs to suck it up and play 3C. Plus....there's a possibility Cullen get's pushed to the press box.

He can always be double shifted a bit. I haven't seen anything that warrants a dbl shift though.
