Unless he is homesick, I think he is getting some bad advice as it looked like he was just catching on to the smaller ice surface and american game

Wolski already said it, the reputation of the KHL is improving. Cant wait to see better hockey at this side of the pond

AHL players only make 70k a year.

So I don't blame him, plus I don't see him getting much ice time in the NHL right now since the Jets have some deep depth right now, and will for awhile.

Someone help me out. Is an "out-clause" the same scenario used by guys like Vesey/Butcher/Kerfoot, who were all drafted but waited out their contract while playing NCAA and eventually signing with any team of their choice? Would be horrible for WPG to not retain his rights should that be the case.

No its different, Vesey/Butcher/Kerfoot, were not signed to NHL contracts, whereas Vesalainen is. Part of his contract stipulation allowed him to explore European options if not playing for the big club by a certain date.

Good to know! Thanks! Not Chevy just needs to extend Connor and Morrissey sooner than later and my jets anxiety will be gone!!! Laine can wait.

So if he opts out does that mean that his whole three year contract is void, or is it just his year thats voided?

It's not really that this year is voided either.

His contract allowed in the 1st year of the ELC for him to return to Europe after November 17th if he wanted to. (Sami Niku had a similar clause last year and chose to stay with the Moose instead of going back to Europe.) Side Note: Tolvanen with the Preds has the option coming up as well.

Next year Vesalainen has to stay in North America. The Jets weren't going to play him enough to use a year of his ELC up because then they'd need to protect him in the expansion draft. I was hoping he would play the year in the AHL and then potentially get some time in the playoffs like Roslovic did last year.

If he wants to spend one more year in Europe as a 19 year old kid I won't hold it against him, but he was putting up a point per game in the AHL and I think it would have been better for his development to stay. I think he spends one year in the AHL, if that was this year or if its next year, but I don't think he makes the Jets out of camp next year if he goes back to Europe. He needs to adjust to the smaller ice.

So vas will still have 3 years on his entry level following this season? If so that is great for the soon too be cap crunched Jets. But I agree with you, he appeared to be off to a great start with the Moose. Too bad he couldn't stay the course.

yes, he still has all three years on his entry deal, also if he would have played Moose this year and next, he would have to be protected in the next expansion draft coming up, now he will not be.
