I didn’t mind Martinez or Muzzin last night....

If the Leafs get Nylander I wouldn’t mind sending a package at the TDL for one of them. Preferably Muzzin.

Hamilton for Nylander, you guys need some scoring.....bad.

Not even sure why you made that trade to begin with?

I thought Hanifan was supposed to be a top pair and you added a goal scorer?

- Garnie

And then traded Skinner away cos goals suck

Top 4 D.

The type of players you want to get at the TDL.

Specifically looking at Muzzin. He plays 21+ mins a night and somehow putting up possitive shot metrics getting 40% D zone starts on the worst team in the league. He can get you 40+ points and can skate well for a large frame.

You are underrating Nylander.

He’s 21 years old and controllable for 6 more years.

Hamilton is 25 and controllable for 3...that matters a lot.

- Santo_44

Sure, but those 3 years of Hamilton are at only $5.75. That's an extremely affordable contract for that guy. Whereas Nylander is looking at $7 mill+

Not to say it's not probably close to fair value, Nylander instantly would be the 2nd best forward on the team (Until Svechnikov matures), it's just I have a hard time seeing the team trading away Hamilton after making such a big play to get him in the first place.

They traded away Skinner because he was the face of the team for 8 years and everybody needed a fresh start.

He's a good player, and I'm glad he's doing well in Buffalo, but both Aho AND Teravainen had more points last season than Skinner has ever had in a single year.

It wasn't a good trade, but Skinner used his NTC to get closer to home, I guess.

After sitting out the game vs Chicago, no Brett Pesce at practice again today.

Did you try Copperhead road?
- bixll

No not yet.

I keep meaning to....tonight/tomorrow night I would think.

Had a few beers starting at around 8 last night and I don't think I made it through the 2nd period of the game either.

Gardiner ok....the past couple of "years"?
Hes been ok the past couple of games.
Past couple of years....hes a "oh ffs" dman who gets points off of playing with offensive players and making the odd stretch pass that worked

- Fakepartofme

If we want to make runs we need to add to our D without subtracting Gards.

Hanifin was supposed to be, but he's 21 and still isn't, whereas Hamilton is a legitimate top pairing defenseman.

Ferland has been a revelation, providing something this club hasn't had since Tuomo Ruutu fell apart.

Oh and Adam Fox (assuming the Canes can get him signed), has 12 points through 5 games as a defenseman for Harvard this year. He can probably play in the NHL right now.

21's pretty young to expect him to be ready, but you guys didnt have problems with your D last year....it's scoring and still is?

It’s not that much of a difference...especially with the cap savings years 2-6

While Hamilton will cost 8 million in 3 years.

Aho, Slavin, Svechnikov, and (Probably) Hamilton are off limits.

Anyone else is probably available one way or another.

- BINGO!

So is Nylander then, just my guess...probably why there hasn't been a trade.

Nylander has until Friday to sign or he loses 25% of his earning due to games missed.

They said there is ways around it but then the leafs would lose the savings of the cap hit being smaller because of the hold out.

I wonder if it puts any added pressure on either side.

Yeah. Which is why they got Ferland and Hamilton (who scores more than Hanifin did)

21 is pretty early, yes, but it's not like we're talking about an inexperienced rookie here. He's played over 250 games.

8 Million 3 years from now is going to be a much smaller percentage of the cap than $8 million today.

TSN.

You know, maybe I'm just petty, but frankly the way I feel . . . the Nylander camp goes into negotiations, uses unrealistic comps to ask for far more than the player is worth, which would affect the ability to keep the team together - then he wants a signing bonus to make up for the time he lost because of his demands?

No. Take responsibility for your own actions. Man up and accept that you made a mistake by asking for too much.

Yeah, even if the Cap goes up by $5 million you've still only got $35 mill in space right now, with only 11 current NHLers under contract and Matthews is going to eat close to a third of that.
