Rielly has more goals than Pietrangelo has points...

TRADE RIELLY FOR PIETRANGELO, ADD A FIRST IF YOU HAVE TO!

Let's see him play before we say that. WE have an idea our D is so pathetic, but the stats never back that up.

Putting Mitch Marner on the 4th line would make him our best 4th liner too.

I am sure Babcock would rather do that.

Depends what LA needs and if he wants to come to Toronto (waives the NMC) but the central piece could be Rielly if the Leafs can get a LHD for Nylander. LA has trouble scoring, it could be Nylander+. Could not be Doughty and it could be another #1 RHD. I just suggested Doughty as an example of a #1 RHD and because they're playing the Kings tonight so it's kind of topical.

Doughty has said he likes the privacy but he's also said winning is a big priority so if the Kings continue to suck, then the question becomes "Who can win and who can fit him?". Matthews has tried to whisper in his ear, so has Kadri. Also note, Doughty is half Portuguese. So is Tavares.

If the Leafs were expecting to spend 7ish on Nylander and Rielly makes 5.5, that's 12.5 in space to accommodate Doughty's cap hit. If Gardiner is traded or walks, he, along with Hainsey, can go towards paying Rielly's replacement (H. Lindholm same age as Rielly, same price, better defensively).

This idea is gaining steam.

I think Dubas is betting on continued team success without Nylander in the lineup, and then makes him an offer that is a bit higher than what he originally put out there. He uses cap space from this season to make the Nylander contract more tenable in future seasons when we'll have the 2Ms on real contracts.

Note that numbers in the calculations aren't front loaded. Front loading the contract makes this year's cap hit higher and future season's cap hits lower.

I really want Nylander signed. Do not trade him. I am not giving up a 22 year-old blue chipper for Montour. Ridiculous. We can get guys like that without giving up Nylander.

Exactly. The Leafs have two of them already - Liljegren and Sandin.

Are you watching Rielly play? He's the frontrunner for the Norris right now. The guy plays harder minutes right now than Doughty does and has clearly been better than Doughty this season.

This is insane. Rielly is 4 years younger and makes 6 million less per on the cap. All I hear is cap worries and you want to make a move to get an older much more expensive player who's playing worse.

Rielly is not just a offensive DMan. He is top 5 every single season in the entire NHL. He's an undisputed #1 stud D now.

- RogerRoeper

Could be wrong, but I think Rielly Hansey have been getting easier minutes and zone starts this year then the Gardiner Zaitsev who I believe have been taking a lot of the Dzone starts. So not sure you’re right about him playing harder minutes then Doughty.

Has anyone from the Nylander camp or the Leafs management actually said anything about this being a problem?

Last thing I heard from Dubas is that we need to be patient.
I wonder if signing him on Nov. 30th was always the plan to manipulate the cap hit.

This.

This all day long.

This all day long, and then at the end of the day you turn off your computer, go to your local bar, sit down with some buddies, order a giant plate of nachos and some beers, pour everyone a glass (yours last, because you are a gentleman), you raise your glasses and say, "Gentlemen! To Morgan Rielly! And thank our lucky stars that Uggie is not our GM!"

BTW, I keep hearing the Ducks have this amazing young D but they are a train wreck.
On Toronto would guys like Manson and Montour be treated like these amazing young DMen?

Here's the actual numbers:

I can wait until Nov 30 if we give him $7, and the cap hit going forward is $6.6

This.

This all day long.

This all day long, and then after hanging around at work for a couple hours after everyone has left, surfing Hockeybuzz because you have nowhere else to go, you turn off your computer, take the bus home, shuffle down the steps to your basement apartment, heat up a can of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Roller Coasters in the microwave, and as you sit at the edge of the bed, eating your sad dinner by yourself, you lift up your fork and say out loud to no one, "Well, at least I'm not as pathetic as Uggie. And damn, Rielly is a good defenceman."
