I thought Zajac and Wood had a good thing going. Why is he being buried with JSD and Boyle? Not sure I understand the combos for this game.

Wood is on the fourth line because he hasn't been too productive and has taken some idiotic penalties lately.

That second line isn't very big, is it?

Hope Mojo enjoys playing with them two smurfs. If Seney and Bratt have chemistry, though, it would be pretty neat.

The leafs are tiny. No worries about size in this matchup. Just keep our slower D off the ice when Marner is on, or we will be on the pk from all the stick work.

Over the last five games, Toronto has conceded just 32 high-danger chances at 5v5.

For perspective, it's felt like the Devils have been very pedestrian offensively and they still generated 60 high-danger chances at 5v5 over the same span.

The Leafs have done a great job of bottling teams up and keeping things to the outside. Creating offense at 5v5 tonight could be tougher than you'd think.

You nailed it with paragraph Todd. Good write up.

I don't know what is more worrying, the defense or lack of any finishing or depth at forward

‘Holy taking it in the dumper Batman’

Losing a few games isn’t such a big deal but getting blown out repeatedly is super concerning.

the worst part about losing isn't actually losing.. it's losing percentage points that Hall re-ups with us. THAT is the biggest deal out of all of this. Otherwise, losing gets us Hughes, or someone more helpful for the next decade than 90% of the current roster.

Really starting to believe last year was a bad dream and only luckily did we get Smith. This team is in phase 1 rebuild with some pieces. But need to determine now if they can resign Hall, Vatanen and others or the fire sale begins. Beating up on a down Penguins team gave us false hope for this season. Keep to the rebuild.

Not really time to panic... Hynes just needs to get this team back to its winning identity - playing uptempo, free-flowing hockey that stretches the neutral zone.

The transition is absolutely terrible and so is front net coverage; they probably can't fix front net coverage with a skating team, but the transition should be miles better than what it currently is.

- Todd.Cordell

Painful to watch. LJ can't even make a simple wrap around the boards. Mueller has been impressive, but putting him top pairing with Vats, against all that speed was a huge mistake. Some soft goals and softer penalties called. We simply throw the puck around too liberally, whereas, Toronto (mostly Marner) maintains possession, uses the easy outlet, and rarely forces an offensive chance. It is simple, the puck will always be faster than the skater so take the easy outlet and quit tossing the puck into 50/50 battles. Rumor has it Daniel Sprong is up on the trading block..... He has looked very impressive, and a 21 year old RW wouldn't hurt this team one bit....
