So my choices are Phaneuf at 5.25 for the next three years, or Lucic at 6 for the next five years.

Hmmm...

Here you go bud.

So now that the Oil have lost 3 in a convincing fashion, how much further must they fall before changes are made?
- Wildschwein

I can see where you are coming from but even with this slide we are still only 2 points off so I don’t expect any coaching changes or anything like that.....they got 2 home games to figure this poop out because after that we start playing our division rivals....7/8 games for the rest of November are division games

That right there will make or break the season. They win 6 of those and things are looking rosey. Lose 6 and they’re (frank)ed.

And the other game is against Dallas so still an important one due to it being in the west

I'd rather furiously fap with sand paper than acquire Phaneuf
- Reveen.

And I'd rather have a contract we can easily buyout than be stuck looking at Lucic's ugly mug be unable to make plays for another 5 years.

Think about it this way: WE get the joy of buying out that ass-bastard's contract and it hopefully being his last

Pearson likely avaiable. One of Carolina's RD is likely available. Top-4 LD are much easier to pick up via UFA, Russell can likely still hold his own as 2LD and we need a top-6 winger to help us score more.

Nurse for Pearson(+)
Puljujarvi(+) for Pesce

How strongly would we feel if we traded two of our unproven pieces for some tangible and more proven assets like this?

Some rumors would suggest that if the Leafs deal Nylander to the Canes that Pesce would be one of the players going back the other way....other then that I don’t know what we could add to sweeten the deal....I’m assuming a pick?.....As far as Nurse goes unless it’s something like you suggested for Pesce I’m not in favour of moving him at all

Okay, would you make those trades assuming the pluses going both ways equaled out?

Once you have that answer, which route would you favour given the chance: the previously mentioned one where we're shaking things up or one where they instead trade for a guy like Pysyk that might be able to help stabilize the second pairing and keep the rest of our team as is?

I would be in favour of a shake up providing we can actually trust in Chia to make a trade that would actually help us instead of hinder us....if it means trading some younger guys for more proven but older players then so be it....the trades you suggested I wouldn’t hate tbh because Pesce would help on the second pairing and offset the loss of Nurse and Puju is in need of a fresh start elsewhere so Pearson could easily offset that loss if one wants to call it that in its current state.....this team needs to decide if they want to wait for guys to possibly reach their potential (Nurse being a key example) or if they really want to try and win now and sacrifice someone with potential to win games right now

Puljujarvi + for Pesce? Hells yes.

Nurse for Pearson +? Not tickling my fancy one bit. I just can't see a + that would make than move worthwhile.

Fair and reasoned response. I try to view the value in the rawest sense possible: an exchange of goal share. In making the trades in conjunction with one another, you can effectively break it down to Nurse for Pesce (or other RHD) and Puljujarvi for Pearson. With that as my frame, I ask myself the following:

Am I confident that Nurse's potential will lead to him providing a more positive impact on goal share over the next 6 years than what Pesce has shown to bring so far in his career? And...

Am I more confident in Puljujarvi and the team's ability to get value out of him by manifesting what I think is his potential (approximately Saad) than I am in the value that Pearson has shown he can bring for at least another 3 years?

For me, both answers are 'no'.

Well the idea would be that Pesce would offset the loss of Nurse.....so in a round about way its Pesce for Nurse

Certainly fair. Perhaps the value of Nurse/Pesce and Russell/Benning together is far greater than the difference Pearson and Russell/Pesce would make in our team's ability to convert on their chances. Does the way I frame it in my other post change your stance at all? Or are you still rather firm on it?

The moves you suggested makes us a better team now which is the whole point really if we are really supposed to be a playoff team.....how would you feel about a Talbot for Crawford exchange? I’m aware that other factors need to be discussed like cap and other players but just the idea of if?
