But the guy doesn't use his body. He hasn't shown that effective shot that he had in the world juniors. He hasn't been that great skater we saw in the preseason. We've seen him regress defensively.

He's not a shooter by nature; he's a playmaking winger that had- HAD- a solid mind for defense. Oilers management has miscast him as a power shooter (ala Hall).

CHL would've been better but staying in a place where he has a comfortable support system for a year while he learned the language from a tutor and built his offensive confidence would be so much better than being forced into roles beyond him by a stubborn and old school coaching staff.

You still don't learn the much faster, much more physical north american game playing in Europe. Blame the coaches and Oilers management all you want, there is still onus on the player to be better, learn and adapt as opposed to being too stubborn to change what he knows and has learned.
