The terms and conditions of UBER says you cant sue UBER unless they give you written permission (like that would ever happen) and as far as the driver himself goes, well they were in his car and he can record all he wants in his own car.

Oh so Uber is the only company in the world that can't be sued unless they give the person suing them written permission? I can't believe none of the other multi-billion dollar companies out there ever thought of that.

Any term and conditions can't overwrite laws...

so if you can prove they did something wrong, doesn't matter what you signed or agreed to.

Through the golf world, I have gotten to play with a number of NHL players who are normally as cool as you would expect.

With that said, they are often VERY YOUNG and VERY RICH. Most didn't go to college but live in a 24-7-365 media world but sometimes forget that which is what we have in Ott (or AZ, I should say).

I agree with Ek, as someone who was at the game (and caught my first puck) the night Pelle crashed is Porsche 930 after drinking too much at Benegan's, its good to use Uber. With that said, guys vent elsewhere. I am sure its frustrating being on a bad team in Ott but its the NHL. You wanna come sell advertising with me or be a roofer in Scottsdale? There are worse jobs that pay terribly.

I know we are post Ed Snider these days but I can only imagine how he would reacted to this. The problem is you can't really trade players like Chabot ESPECIALLY after letting Karrlson go for close to nothing. Ott might just have to write it off as kids being kids.

Voila !

Its like you sign a paper when you go karting stating they are not responsible if you get injured in an accident.

Its true if it happens cause you did something stupid, however if you crash because they didn't do proper maintenance on the kart, they are responsible no matter what you signed ! ( problem lies in proving that thought)

Yea i think it has more to do with if the driver gets in an accident and you are hurt it isnt UBERs fault kind of thing. I probably read the wrong part of their terms and conditions. Either way, there is 0 case for these players here in court.

No way they trade Chabot, he leads the league in points for defenseman. Plus, I know the video is dark and hard to make out who says what, but it looks like Chabot keeps his mouth shut for most of the ride.

Whether right or wrong of Uber to release, the players should have been aware they were being recorded imo. Uber cars usually have a piece of paper or little sign above their cameras saying you are being recorded in case any occurrences happen during your ride.

There is nothing wrong with venting, but that should be a private conversation. It doesn't matter that they were being recorded, the driver was there the whole time and heard everything. That is not a private conversation, in company of strangers they didn't care.
So the idea that a private conversation can only be had at home or in a bug-swept room is preposterous.

Don't air your dirty laundry in front of strangers, it's that simple.

There is this little thing called freedom, Canada still has it. If you want to have a private conversation, you need to be in a place that you privately own.

yup.... When in public always assume there is a camera somewhere... The Uber driver is scummy for sure but he is in his private car and has the right to video all day long mainly for his protection. You have no expectation of privacy in public....

As was pointed out above, that stuff only protects them to a certain degree and it certainly doesn't protect them from recording and releasing video and audio recordings without the consent of passengers.

If anything an event like this should be used as a tool to get players and coaches to be more open and talk to each other during times of the season when things aren't going right. People vent, it's as natural as grass growing in the Summer. If you don't vent off somewhere, then you end up having a volcanic explosion somewhere else down the road.
Probably better if players and coaches have a closed door meeting every couple weeks to vent out frustrations with each other and air out what irks them in order to get on the same page, whether you're winning games or losing games.

I for one find the video reassuring.

it shows that:

1. the players realize what the media and fans realize....the coaching staff in Ottawa is awful

2. they're all on the same page about it.

at the end of the day, this type of talk happens all the time on every team. I have NO DOUBT that there are multiple uber and other recordings of players in every sport doing this, it just so happens that this uber driver is the only POS (so far) to actually release the tape. I'm sure he thought he'd make a bit of $$ and get his 15 mins of fame.....hopefully the opposite happens, and he gets sued and fired.

Yes it proves that but how does it make you feel that a Veteran like Duchene saying "he hasnt paid attention for 3 weeks" to the team meetings. That is not a good attitude to have even if it is justified and it sets a bad example for the younger player

People tend to exaggerate, pretty much always. It was a group of guys complaining about their boss and you can't take everything they say literally.
