I'm betting that Coach Q lands in Winnipeg with former Hawks assistant GM Ken Cheveldayoff. Q will be what the Jets need to win the Cup.
- StutzBlackhawk

I'd rather see him with the Blues, but the Jets might be a good show as well.

Where? Sega Hockey 94?

Hey I get it, he is a great coach. You don't last that long and win that many games. But he is played out here in Chicago. Turn the page....

- TrueGrit

Close. As an assistant coach with the Avs in 95-96. Troy Murray was also on that Avs team.

What Q would bring to the Jets is structure and discipline which Maurice has never brought to any club he has coached. I see the Jets continually be in poor position when they don't have the puck. I see players go out of their way to make the big hit vacating their position on the ice to do so. I see players get in penalty problems. The Jets have a quality team with below average coaching. The Jets are tailor made for a guy like Q to step in, implement a basic defensive structure, have the players buy into a disciplined approach to the game and he would also bring that swagger only a coach as successful as he is can bring. If Cheveldayoff has the balls to pull off that move I think the jets become a top cup contender.

Anyone have any questions or themes they want me to work in on Coach Q, Stan, Colliton, etc?

Q is an unbelievable coach, for sure, and I will always have a warm thought for him for helping to bring more sports excitement into my life than anyone could hope for...

Reading this profile on Colliton, I can’t help but think he will be very good for the team we have now. At least the young guys and innovative guys like Kane should respond well. Will Colliton be the master bench tactician in the playoffs that Q is? Probably not, but I also think that’s not a priority with roster we have now.

As for Stan, I firmly believe Rocky is doing the “execute the executioner last” game with him. Push him to trade off a couple of the popular core guys and take the blame/fallout/hate before he, himself, gets the axe.

How will Colliton change the team mentality on the forecheck, aggressiveness of the PK (or lack there of), the physicality/hitting (or lack there of), and activation of the dmen of carrying the puck up ice/exiting the zone/zone entries/etc

Also, changes in power play personnel, especially the PP quartback position on the top unit and potential new schemes

I know it’s a tangent, but if you could go in depth a bit on what Barry Smith brings and his involvement with Colliton (Colly? Coach C, Youngblood?) in Rockford?

Duclair has another goal tonight. 6 in 15 games, On pace for 31 but we could not afford 1.5 mil for a really fast 22 year old that scored 20 goals at 19. That made no sense to me. We’re trying to get faster and younger. I thought we should have given it 1 more year.
- kmw4631

Maybe you are correct here, but Q wanted his boy Kruger back to stand at the top of that 4 man box on the PK and play goaltender for 2.75 a year, and a veteran Dman in Manning who couldn't check his coat, and another leader in the locker room in Kunitz who.....well whatever.

These additions had Quenneville's footprint all over them and may be one of the reasons he was let go yesterday. We will really never know who made the call on these 3 additions Stan or Q, but obviously it will be defined soon whether Colliton plays them or sits them. It will be interesting.

But YES speed and youth should continue to be the direction and Duclair might turn out to be a decent forward, but he really didn't show much while he was here for his brief cup.

If possible, to explore the difference in coaching philosophy between Q and Colliton - what can we expect?

That just might happen. It's a perfect landing for Q if he wants to do it.
My question there will be how long before Q tells Buff that he's playing forward ??
And then the SPARKS will fly.
Nah......... he wouldn't be that stubborn anymore would he ?

Its not really a tangent. I believe Barry Smith's title in the organization was Director of Player (or Talent) Evaluation.

So how much input did he have in some of the absurd acquisitions that the Hawks made or traded for. That includes Connor Murphy, Manning, Rutta, Ward and the 18 other defenceman they brought into the organization.

It's even going to get better. That's before we even trade Keith or Toews. I'm sure Standbo is ready to throw in a promising rookie or draft bone with Seabs soon. Seabs. Contract and other contracts have caused this cascade. There is definitely blood in the water.

In the rush to blame Q, Bowman or McDonough for the current state of the Blackhawks I'd point my finger of blame at the incredible success of the team.

Qunneville coaches how he coaches. He can only do what he can with the players he has. Put Q in Winnipeg and I think they go from pretender to contender.

In my mind Bowman's worst move was signing Seabrook when it was obvious he was no longer in his prime and was in fact slowing down. I'd argue all Bowman's other moves and trades were done to combat the cap crisis the team was in since 2010 and to try to keep the Hawks in contender status. Had Bowman had the biggest testicles in the history of pro sport he should, in hindsight, have moved some or all of the team's core players for elite prospects and high draft picks. Imagine what Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Hossa and Crawford would have fetched after the 2015 cup win? Imagibe the toxic hate that the Hawk fanbase would have spewed if he had?

The Hawks are where they are today mainly because 10 years of being an elite team meant drafting in the high twenties. It meant having to move good even great players to keep cap compliant. It meant having to move young prospects and draft picks to try to keep the Hawks in cup contention over the years. It meant having to watch the team struggle as all of the core got old at the same time and there was very little in the AHL ready to bolster the team.

If I could go back in time would I be happy with the Hawks being also rans in return for three Stanley cup? DAMN RIGHT I WOULD! I, we, witnessed the best hockey from the team I have cheered on for 51 years. Could things have been done differently, yes but unless Bowman had done the unthinkable and moved some or all of his core just as they were on the downward turn of their careers nothing he or Q did could have prevented where the Hawks are today. Count me as one who isn't critical of Qunneville or Bowman for bringing Hawks fans the best and most successful team in franchise history.

One theme Justin, and it's been speculated on, if this blows up . Trading the core, if they would waive no trade clause, and what they bring back. Obviously Seabs would require a sweetener and maybe even Toews. Not saying to total clean house, I see Keith as most marketable. Obviously. We cannot clean house it would kill revenue, season tickets and equity value in the brand.

many of has argued the same thing but as succinctly as you..but alas to no avail...

what is happening to hawks has happened most recently to redwings, the kings, and soon the penguins...not a damn thing any GM can do to prevent it..

how about those teams that were competitive with the hawks, had big contracts and have won zippo, nada, zero: nucks, ducks, sharks...they got their down cycle right in front of them or in the case of the nucks going through it now...
