With Q out of the way - maybe now Stan can start making some trades.
- powerenforcer

You think any trade has been up to Q?

After today's press conference, it seems quite a few of the moves are McD as the majority

Not only do I agree he'll coach again and win another Cup elsewhere...

I also predict Kane will ask to be moved in the next year or two- because he has the drive to win and not suck/deal with garbage excuses.

While Keith and Seabrook are in the twilight of their careers, Kane still wants to be the best and wont get that in CHI going forward, IMO

A coach is only as good as the team he has and Q was the best guy the Hawks could have had during their run. Now look at Winnipeg, a very good team with a coach who can't get the most out of them. Maurice has always had teams who lack discipline both in terms of penalties and in playing within a system. I think Quennevile could fix what ails the Jets and get the most out of that lineup.

I think Stan made sure that "Q " will get the hook by his lack of key trades during the offseason. This was collusion at it's best. It was a false flag operation orchestrated by Stan with the blessing of McD.

Come on. Q “couldn’t win it all”, until he did.
Julien “couldn’t win it all”, until he did.
Trotz “couldn’t win it all” until he did.

And what is the common thing about these coaches? They fell into a team that was ready to win.

Funny you mention him.

I hear Dylan will be up shortly and Jeremy may bring more of his Rockford regulars after some time.

At this point, I would be encouraged, and would gladly welcome the Hawks to bring up any young piece they think will be of importance. If the Hawks suck, I would rather watch Hillman and Fosling suck on the back end over Manning/Rutta/Davidson. Bring up Sikura, let Hayden play regularly.

Duclair has another goal tonight. 6 in 15 games, On pace for 31 but we could not afford 1.5 mil for a really fast 22 year old that scored 20 goals at 19. That made no sense to me. We’re trying to get faster and younger. I thought we should have given it 1 more year.

Took me some time to catch up … crazy day in more way than one. I agree, Justin, really sad to see him go. What he means to the team can't be measured. I always thought that Bowman and Q would leave at the same time, but it seems like the move of a desperate man. These were two things that I had posted last blog.

I nearly pissed my pants with laughter. Who said McD wasn't going to call these decisions a rebuild, but a remodel? That's exactly what he said!!!!! Sorry if this was already addressed, I just got home from school and laughed my ass off. What a McD thing to say.

Questions to anyone ... I'm sensing a fire to come out of these guys now. How successful are teams, generally, after a coach firing? This is such a different instance because the guys loved Q, blamed themselves, and he had been there 10 years. Colliton is thrown into shark-infested waters ... what should I expect on the season? How soon until Q is snatched up? Dineen and Ulf … where to Larry and Curly end up?

All depending on the play of the guys and Coach C getting this team where they need to be ... I wonder about any Stan trades.

Q is one of those.

No, Stan decided that Kunitz was the answer to improve the Blackhawk forward crew.

Only 2 current full-time NHL defensemen in 9 drafts and 79 picks

I joked about the Hawks bringing Oates in to fix their PP. I didn't actually think he was available.

The Hawks would have had to qualify Duclair at about $1.4M. Based on what he showed before getting hurt it was an easy decision not to proceed.

Columbus signed him for NHL minimum and Tortorella tells him every day that he's down to his last chance in the big show. The kid is motivated.

Not that it was worded like this verbatim but I imagine management asked (or may eventually ask) Colliton who in Rockford is worth calling up whether soon or at a later point in the season. I would think Sikura is tops on the list. If they weren't injured, that short list should also include Forsling, Dahlstrom, and Highmore. Raddysh is intriguing enough for a look see, too.

On that note, I do wonder if Colliton agreed with the call up of Fortin over Highmore and Sikura or even Louis, Schroeder, or Broadhurst. Fortin was not noticeable and a non factor in the games he played for the Hogs before being called up. The others in comparison showed a lot more.

That said, it has been discussed on these boards that some prospects play better at higher levels (i.e. NHL) and just toil in the minors for whatever reason. Fortin could be that rare breed. Yet, I still desire more out of Fortin. IMHO, he just shows speed but not much else.

Q & SB havn’t been in the same page for a long time- both to blame.
Q for being stubborn- Stan for being incompetent!

It started with not playing Weise after the deadline trade - same with Daley

Then Bowman trades Teravinen to squirm out the contract with Bickell that he gave Bickel.
Trades Hammer against Q’s wishes & for good measure fires Kitchen.

The Leddy fiasco - Sharp to Dallas disaster- let’s Raanta walk. Trades for Timinen- brings back Sharp & Kruger
Let’s Himastrossa go to move Hossa’s contract & then does zero with the Cap Space.

This off season a complete disaster
Kunitz- Ward- & Manning. Signs Rutto

It goes on and on.

I’m sure Joel is enjoying the $12 Million coming his way

As for Larry and Curly, they'll go back to their law firm of Dewey, Cheatem & Howe.

If Bickel hadn't gotten sick he might have been worth the contract he was given. Other teams were willing to sign him at the time. Mostly agree with the rest.

I disagree with everyone here on Stan Bowman. He did not make one decision on his own. He was a GM in title only. He was a puppet and the face of the GM title. Every signing, every contract, every trade, every draft pick was a decision by committee. McD and Scotty were involved in all the decisions. It would not surprise me if Rocky was involved in the committee as well. I am not sure who else was on the committee. They all have to accept the blame here. With all that being said, time to get a GM that knows hockey (the game and the business side) and give them the autonomy to make the necessary decisions to make the Hawks competitive again. The committee inherited riches just like Q did. They all made the best of the run we had.

I feel sentimental that the great run is over. Thanks Q for your part of it. However, it was time for you to go. I hope the Hawks are classy and give him a memorial night for the best 10 years this franchise has ever had. Every member of the core deserves that type of memorial. I just hope that we can experience another 10 years like that relatively soon.

It is time to go back to (a promising) future.

- isu83boo

Seriously?? A puppet??

You couldn't be any more wrong if your name was Wrongy McWrong!!!!

Stan Bowman, like him or hate him, has been with this team longer than his father. He has put in the time to learn the job, and has done the job - regardless of who is over him.

Scotty Bowman was an old man when they hired him as a senior adviser. And knowing a little something about it, he really has been a hands off adviser to the front office. He has been a valuable voice to Rocky, and really - sort of a sounding board to Quenneville in regards to the team playing the game the way the Russians did in the 60s and 70s - where all five players activate in all three zones - how forwards and d-men trade places when one moves up - another covers back.

Scotty was an innovator in this regard - translating this style to the NHL, and Quenneville was always fascinated to hear his input on the play. There are so many little nuances to it - having someone who embraced it and utilized it to win multiple cups was a voice that Q wanted to hear. And having players like Duncan Keith and Marian Hossa - it really enhanced their skills and overall team play.

So please get off this kick about nepotism in regards to Stan - he was here years before his father - and I know for a fact that Scotty watched more Tampa Bay games than he did Chicago - because of his close ties with Yzerman. I had questioned someone within the organization about it several years ago - the thought was Scotty Bowman was hockey royalty - with a lot of close relationships to a lot of people around the league - and Rocky was not going to tell him to end those friendships in a sign of team solidarity. As long as he never compromised the Hawks - they were ok with it.

Completely agreed

Another absolutely horrendous move by Bowman

I thought we were way too quick to rid ourselves of capable young forwards in Duclair, Panik, Hartman, and Hinostroza. Those are PERFECT cost controlled fast, talented players that you can build forward depth with. Lack of forward depth and production outside of Toews/Kane/D-Cat is one of our main concerns....and of course Bowman had his hand in creating this situation.

Imagine what our forwards would look like with those guys, Danault, and Panarin still on board. Pretty damn good.

Forgot about TT, there's so many talented young forwards we've lost because of Bowmans poor decisions that i can't even keep track of them all anymore.
