Q just got a two year, $12 million dollar vacation

If I were him I'd chill out and watch the ponies for the next few years

I'm wondering if LA is kicking themselves that they fired Stevens first and inserted Desjardins. LA has some good pieces.

I think it is more of a shock than that it will be all that bad. After losing in round one 2016....getting embarrassed in 2017 by Nashville, and then missing the playoffs last year...there was gonna be a move like this if they didn't come out the gate well. Stan didn't make all the right moves lately, but we'd be kidding ourselves if we said Q got the most out of the roster in recent seasons. The Hawks currently position isn't all on Q and it isn't all on Stan or any one person, but the current situation after this road trip, was embarrassing.

What we don't know, and probably never will, is who initiated the firing, Shovel Face or StanBow. If it was Shovel Face then Stan is feeling the heat if it was StanBow&Pops Stan must be feeling emboldened and relatively safe.

If nothing else hopefully this shows all in the organIzation, including the players, that everyone is fair game.

I didn't think Jeremy Colliton was ready just yet, but knew the #blackhawks liked him a lot.

I just hope they are not Trent Yawney-ing him.

I don't disagree with you that coach Q should be or been fired, that should have happened when they got smoked 4 and out . Instead bowman decided to keep the coach and did more damage to this team with his God awful trades , signings , contracts etc.
And it showed last year when this team failed to make the playoffs.

Stan then had enough time to make the necessary moves to acquire nhl caliber players. He chose to waste cap money on garbage , ward , manning, Davidson, Kunitz, he also was the mastermind in hiring coach Q assistants .

The coach is hired based on his record he then has a system which he uses , if he is not given a competent group of players that issue then solely rests on the GMs head.

Stan gave out ridiculous contracts and put together a poop show supporting cast around a group of aging declining highly paid no movement clauses players with a farm system that had a plethora of young talent to a group of young kids who 97% of them will either be bottom pairing guys or 1 or 2 top talent guys.

Stan should have been fired to allow a new GM to come in and do what needs to be done and hire his own coach. Colliton should have been given interim tag not the official head coach.

- Taylorst1

Its not like you can go get the exact players you need, you can only get what is available...so the coach has to be flexible. Q obviously was not, and that is why he is gone.

Can't really argue that. I think Stan is on the clock now, I don't know how much longer he'll last.

I wonder if firing Q opens the door to some of the vets being willing to waive their NTCs? I'm not saying I want any of the core guys dealt (in fact I don't), but I wonder if this will be a bi-product of the move.

Tough to see a great bench boss like Q go. I put a lot of merit in Dan Carcillo's tweet. One guy this board has let off the hook quite a bit is that idiot John McD. He has had a lot more involvement then we may know and has gotten too close to the hockey part of the business. He is the worst person in that front office and I am sure Q told him to go scratch a number of times.

It better be, but this will be half-assed

I wasnt for it previously, but hopefully Craw, Keith and Seabs quietly ask/accept a move. And they convince JT as well.

Give Kane the C to convince him this is his team now, and go hard for Matthews with a 13mil dollar offer sheet

If CarBomb said this I guess he thought it was important enough to say to cut any ties he has with the Hawks. Lesson to be learned - it is always a good idea to pause and think before tweeting.
- Z3Hawk

Or maybe he is just stating the obvious to anyone who has been an insider? He still has close ties to players like Toews and the news of the divide has leaked out of the organization for a while now.

They've don a very good job drafting POTENTIAL the past 3 or 4 years.

So far, only Jokiharju and AdB have proven to be good top-6/top-pairing skaters - and the former has only played 15 games.

Saad top 6 fosh
Schmaltz is a 50 point player. Kind of good
TT is fosh a top 6 player
Danault is a plus bottom 6 player
Hino is a NHL player
Shaw is a NHL player
Hartman is a useful NHL player
Debrincat top 6 fosh
Johns is certainly useful NHL player

Between Boqvist and Mitchell they should get 1 good player. Maybe 1 very good one and 1 pretty good one.

Grabbing assets like Highmore, Kahun or Panarin haven't been terrible decisions.

Finding the right veteran to solidify the bottom lines or anchor a third pairing has been an issue.

Now overvaluing those assets and not using them to flip for a now player or two to bolster the aging\ed core I don't agree with. If anything the season got even more entertaining and its been a whirlwind start.

Reasons for the Hawks decline: Stan, followed closely by Father Time, followed at a distance by Q.

Q wasn't always right and most Hawks fans found him to be frustratingly stubborn many times over the years, but, he is a competent coach. Stan, on the other hand, made more bad moves than good moves and his decision to sign Seabrook to a long term deal at $6.8M AAV with a NTC is exhibit "A" of why the Hawks decline was sped up faster than it needed to be.

I guess there are always silver linings ... so maybe Colliton will let DCat and Kane play together.

Winnepeg, STL, Buffalo or Philly

Hawks better hope it's the East, but I'd love to see him win a Cup in WIN or STL

- PatShart

He'd improve St, Louis but he may be the missing ingredient for the Jets to win it all.

Yeah there is no question there was a divide in the organization. The extent of it we'll likely never know.

One thing I do remember is Quenneville storming out irate when Bowman pulled the trigger to trade Hjalmarsson. It can be argued the Hawks decline was accelerated that day.

No..he was fired

If another team hires him, the Hawks won't have to pay him what they owe him

- PatShart

Everything I read points to being released from head coaching duties - not being fired.

Hey crew - obviously my Nick Schmaltz piece is being pushed back.

I will have an update on the Q / Colliton news today.

Stay tuned!!

- Justin Lowe

Hopefully it won't be needed. Young players like Schmaltz need to be properly coached out of making the same mistakes over and over. And not have their heads messed with.

Will have to wait for the players to completely tune out Maurice. With 52 wins and a WCF appearance last year, I think Paul is safe for at least this year.
