The coaches coming and going you speak of was under Dollar Bill, guys who understood they would be given nothing but took the job just to be an NHL head coach. .......... Never say never but under Rocky hard to believe this would happen again.
- Mr Ricochet

That's true. The organization has changed and we got to hope they did make smart personnel changers here. I guess Q will just be a tough act to follow, given the success they did have when things were clicking. So much for this being a slow week for the Hawks.

Q was not THE problem, but he was A problem. Stan is not THE problem, but A problem. The players are not THE problem but A problem.

For the last three years, we have seen this team play exactly the same way and they got the results you would expect. Poor PK, PP, and defense (i.e. poor shot suppression) have been trademarks for a long time. That is on Q. If you don't have the players to run your system, you alter the system (there is no other option).

Stan has mismanaged several contracts and trades. I will give him credit where it is due (finding Panarin and such), but he has been late to the party several times and come up woefully short in finding replacements to high caliber players.

The players are the ones responsible for their actions on the ice. Q and Stan can't ensure the forward covers for the pinching D or takes a shot when they are 10 feet out in the slot. Q can yell about it, and Stan can try to find "responsible" players, but they have to do it on the ice.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't think giving Colliton interim coach was a great idea. I get the feeling that they are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with him. If he falters the rest of this year, then what? you send him back down to Rockford? Insert Granato, or one of the available coaches and let the rest of this season play out.

- Chunk

Rare that I disagree with you Chunk but I like the idea of giving a Colliton TYPE a shot. A young guy with modern ideas is at the opposite side of the idea spectrum as Q.

They will get 70 games to look at how a young guy, not that it had to be Colliton per say for purposes of this analogy of comparing contrasting, communicates/motivates the player of today as well as how his approach and systems translate.

Love the idea of going from a 60 yr olds view of how to deal with players and how the game should be played to how a 30 something does.

the coming roster moves will be telling: i expect sikura and possibly highmore (injured?) up here soon...the defensive changes should be very interesting...gotta believe kunitz will be history soon...

Yes Q will join Scotty in the Hall of Fame. Both made great choices, always picking stacked teams to coach, leading to lots of wins.

With all of your vast coaching and general manager knowledge why aren't you In the NHL? It seems the NHL is greatly missing out on all your wisdom.

I will always thank Stan for his last offseason. Facing possible termination instead of trying to save his job with expensive or long term obligations he did the right thing, he did no harm.

Until the rebuild kids of the last 3 drafts are ready to contribute at the NHL level the Hawks will go nowhere. Do NOT impede that group when the time comes with bad/long term signings in the interem and Stan didn't.

- Mr Ricochet

This could be a function of the Blackhawks front office decision making process but many of Stan’s failures over the years come from waiting too long. I didn’t want him to make long term deals or mortgage the future either but he could have done better than he did last summer.

True
Q's resume was built on his time with the Hawks as he took over a loaded roster not by his time on other teams. If he goes to another team, he will pick his spot carefully. If he is as great as some suggest, let him pick a project like Ottawa and prove it.

- 67hawks

I will be stunned if he takes a position on a lower team.

After the bull crap that just went on with the Ottawa players, do you think Stan has the stones to shake it up and make a multiplayer trade with Ottawa possibly for Matt Duchenne and that kid stone? Among others, even if it cost us a player like Brandon Saad and your precious Nick Schmaltz?
- wonthecup10

Am I the only one who is seeing a pattern here with the great Matt Duchene?

He has problems in Colorado, the team plays like crap not making the playoffs for 3 years with Duchene. They finally launch him a year ago and the Avs make the playoffs.

Now it sounds like he's in the middle of another issue in Ottawa and that team is playing like junk. (And yes Ottawa has many other issues not involving Duchene.)

I don't think I want any part of this guy.

Hopefully the management and coaching teams will be on the same page now when it comes to trades and signings. And maybe there will be more sense in the purpose of these transactions and the direction the team is heading.
- 67hawks

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!! If there is a possibility of every Hawk fan agreeing on one thing IMO it would be that too many times Q and StanBow were not on the same page.

The only way that can be overcome is with overwhelming talent which the Hawks no longer have. ........ The room for error they had for 5-6-7 yrs is no longer there.

So...Stan is an idiot...cant draft, make solid trades, or sign good contracts

Why am I to believe this 33yr old coach is going to be good? He has 0 experience, but is somehow going to have the locker room command, the refs, the bench during games or out matchup lines versus other teams? Based on he coached in Sweden and Stan likes him? Please

They better move Crawford this year and get something for him...and soon. Before he gets hurt again which happens every Christmas when eggnog is back in season

Exactly! Remember who the last hotshot AHL coach to take over an NHL team was? Dallas Eakins. Where the (frank) is he now?

Serious (non-sarcastic) question here...

For months the consensus here is that Q should be fired. Now that Q has actually been fired why are do many people upset?

Separate the Stan vs. Q argument for a moment and just look at Q's situation. Did Q get the most out of the team he was given? No. Was a change required after a poor start to the season following a season of missing the plays which following an embarrassing first round exit? Yes.

My first choice would have been to keep Stan and Q but improve the roster. My second choice would have been to fired both Stan and Q then start fresh.

From a fan perspective losing Q hurts more than any player the team has traded (even Frolik). I'll miss Q's interviews, amongst other things he was a master of saying nothing while speaking a lot.

I'm looking forward now any interested to see what Colliton can do with the team. I wonder if it will lead to any other moves like Sikura being recalled.

As Ray Ferraro and Aaron Ward both said, you're kidding yourself if you don't think this kind of talk happens on every team all the time. Good teams, bad teams, doesn't matter. Who hasn't gone and held a female dog session with their coworkers?

The Sens suck. And it has very little to do with Matt Duchene. Probably more related to the fact that they have maybe 2 NHL caliber defensemen.

Hahah what a joke. (frank) Stan Bowman. It’s Quenneville’s fault they suck bc he signed Kunitz, Manning, Rutta, Ward, and Gustafson, traded Panarin, traded Hjallmarsson, reacquired Kruger and gave Seabrook $7mil until he’s 56 years old.

Sad day in Chicago. My dog is named Q. Thanks for the memories Q.

Again, (frank) Stan Bowman.

Yes, agree but my only hope (my One Goal) was they did no harm this last offseason and that was achieved. Yes looking back better moves could have been made but that was not my goal cuz IMO even with the right moves they weren't going far.

Give NHL ice time to prospects and don't screw the cap when space will be needed when the prospects of the last 3 drafts are ready to contribute.

I should have worded that better. I'm not against him getting the job, I just want him (or whoever takes over) to be in the best position to succeed, and I don't personally see this as such. I like him for all of the reasons you state. I just think there is way to much crap swirling around this team right now.

I have no problem with a new voice, but it Should’ve been Bowman going too. Q, Colliton, Vince Lombardi, or Scotty Bowman in his prime can’t make this roster a champion. Who built the roster?

Are you suggesting that Colliton’s success in Rockford and in Sweden is inconsequential? Colliton was hired for Rockford because of his success in Sweden. You know that Sweden is sorta known for Hockey too. Maybe you don’t pay attention during the Olympics or other tournaments. Maybe you missed the Sedins, or Lidstrom, or the Draft where Dahlin went first overall - or maybe you missed when the Hawks chose Boqvist. Also you have no business calling Colliton an “idiot” - simply shows you are one.

Sad day for the Blackhawks.

Q deserved better. His message may have gotten lost after a decade but he didn't deserve to be fired mid season after what he's accomplished here. Bowman made this move to save his @$$ and get "his" guy behind the bench. I give him until the end of the this calendar year for Bowman to get this turned around before he's gotta be let go as well.

Rocky is gonna face a HUGE backlash from the fans after letting Q go. Not a good move from them on the PR front.

Gonna be REALLY awkward in a few months when Coach Q is coaching the Blues to stick it to Bowman and the Hawks. I'd be surprised if the St. Louis isn't already on the phone with him trying to get him to come down and take their team to their first Cup.

Ohh and the kicker...my girlfriend just bought tickets to Thursday game for my birthday...this morning BEFORE the fired him...
