While successful he didnt have much time as a coach in Sweden though...

Dude is crazy young, but has some real upside... I'm excited for him.

- gnosox1986

Ward, Keith and Kunitz all older.

I’m excited to see something new and different...especially on the PP.

You want Bowman fired - fine - I wouldn't disagree.

But I doubt any team that has been mismanaged for the last 10 years ever won a Cup, let alone three.

I was torn on that one D. But I agree, it was and has been brutal for a long time. And we know/knew from pressers that it was Q's way (from the mouth of Dineen several times). Only Q would put a guy incapable of getting shots through or on net literally in forever on the 1st PP. But he did.

At least this was done "soon enough" to give them a shot at making the playoffs. I couldn't stand watching them any more as it was always the same old tired things (like the great push-em-back PP entry).

Super creative.

- savvyone-1

Makes me think of the Ottawa players talking in that taxi. If Hawk fans were/are sickened by the lunacy of the PP/PK the last few yrs I wonder what the players say privately? .............. Gotta be some players who are pumped with a new approach to systems/personnel.

Geez, hard to believe Q couldnt win with defenceman like Gustaffson, Manning and Rutta manning the blueline.

It was coming like it does for all coaches eventually and he wont have been surprised.

- RickJ

Maybe these defencemen will be deployed appropriately by the new coaching staff and remember that Q did drive other defencemen out of town who experienced success elsewhere.

That's my thoughts as well Stevie Y I believe he is available and did a fantastic job in Tampa. He is very determined to not give out contracts with huge salaries and no movement clauses or trade clauses. Something Stan did frequently that has really cost this team .

Coach Q wasn't the problem , it's clear Stan is the bigger issue , with his personnel signings and his finger prints all over this team and his hiringmulf and dineen....

- Taylorst1

How do you know that...maybe Stan is signing the right players, but Q couldn't get the moist out of them. That's why the coach is the first change, see if it was his coaching that was the detriment to these players and team. If another coach comes in and these players get better, then...

Q is under contract through 19-20 at $6 M per year. The only place he’s going is to Colorado to ski. And maybe as an NHL Network commentator during the playoffs.

And then to the HOF.

- scottak

That's what I would do if I was him.

possibly with in hours or days...if he wants it...

how about the blows firing yeo and hring Q??

- bogiedoc

Not a bad spot for Q - a team that has good pieces (maybe not all of them, but enough) that he can possibly turn into one that makes a long run.

That seems to be where he shines - like with the Hawks - he made runs with quality teams. Not all coaches can do that. He is a HOF coach for winning when he should have (or, really COULD have). It's a talent than many don't have.

But he's not the coach for a young team with an aging core that really needs developing.

Can't argue that Q has too often been sent to a gun fight with a knife. Conversely can't argue that Johnston won a cup with Daley as his #3 Dman the yr Q ran him out, same with Kempny in WSH.

More than one way to skin a cat man. Time for a guy with a different way of doing so.

Yes
Young coach and young players to rebuild the right way. Hopefully no more Kunitz's and no more shipping away young players like Hartman going forward now.

I will endorse the new coach on the day he Fedexs Erik Gustaffson back to Sweden permanently. And then Rutta and Manning. And then Kunitz and Hayden.

If the coach is gone than Bowman needs to be right behind him. All the talk last year about this is unacceptable and we are going to make changes. Haha what changes signing 3rd and 4th liners. What did they think was going to happen. They addressed nearly nothing and what expected the core players to step up and make it ok. WHAT A JOKE.

Excuse me but Q is going to the HOF. This team has been mismanaged since Dale Talon was dismissed. I hope Rocky is reading all these comments and more. The decisions that need to be made are severe ones but the sooner they are initiated the better. This past road trip just puts us one step closer to a good draft pick, and a good draft pick is the best result this season can bring.
- Garn.

Yes Q will join Scotty in the Hall of Fame. Both made great choices, always picking stacked teams to coach, leading to lots of wins.

They must be going full rebuild why else would they bring in a rookie coach. Is he going to be the Hawks version of Ricky Renteria.

It's too early to tell. Let's give Jeremy some games to see if the players respond. If they do, then it was all on Q.

The move had to be made. Now, lets evaluate after some games. No reason to jump to anything yet.

- powerenforcer

Agreed. From all reports, he's a very popular coach with the players and a great teaching coach. I'm sure it will be a struggle initially, as the Hawks vets were VERY loyal to Q, but hopefully, they'll come around.

Just my opinion, but I don’t believe for one minute that the kid from Rockford will make the decisions, it will be very Smith.

Q was not THE problem, but he was A problem. Stan is not THE problem, but A problem. The players are not THE problem but A problem.

For the last three years, we have seen this team play exactly the same way and they got the results you would expect. Poor PK, PP, and defense (i.e. poor shot suppression) have been trademarks for a long time. That is on Q. If you don't have the players to run your system, you alter the system (there is no other option).

Stan has mismanaged several contracts and trades. I will give him credit where it is due (finding Panarin and such), but he has been late to the party several times and come up woefully short in finding replacements to high caliber players.

The players are the ones responsible for their actions on the ice. Q and Stan can't ensure the forward covers for the pinching D or takes a shot when they are 10 feet out in the slot. Q can yell about it, and Stan can try to find "responsible" players, but they have to do it on the ice.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't think giving Colliton interim coach was a great idea. I get the feeling that they are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with him. If he falters the rest of this year, then what? you send him back down to Rockford? Insert Granato, or one of the available coaches and let the rest of this season play out.

Q Going back to St. Louis or Philadelphia?

If I was Chevy I would bounce Paul Maurice and install Q in Winnipeg.
