Vinny Hinostroza Has Been Excellent

IF there was one reason I was higher on the Coyotes this summer than most, it was because I felt that some of their under-the-radar pickups, specifically Vinny Hinostroza, Jordan Oesterle and Michael Grabner, were very underrated.

So far, I have been impressed with all three, but especially the blazing fast Hinostroza, who has been great.

In eleven games so far, he's got three goals and three assists. Not exactly mindblowing numbers, but still very good.

Still, if you disregard the opening four games of the season, he's got six points in seven games, so that is actually very good.

Hinostroza is averaging just over 12 minutes 5v5 per game, fifth of the team's forwards. He's also fifth in PP ice time. He has played mostly on a line with Brad Richardson and Michael Grabner, and it's been super effective.

Half of Hinostroza's points have come on the power play, but there is reason to be optimistic about his 5v5 scoring - his on ice shooting percentage (meaning the shooting percentage of everyone while he's on the ice) is under 4%, so he should have more points.

This is partly because he and Grabner have been a bit unlucky, but also because Brad Richardson is going to repress your ability to rack up points.

Hinostroza has been especially effective in driving possession with his speed. When he's on the ice, the Coyotes have controlled almost 60% of the play.

Basically, he's been awesome. I think Brad Richardson is a good player, but since he can't score he really shouldn't be playing higher than a fourth line.

Would Dylan Strome look good between Hinostroza and Grabner? I think that he would!

The 24 year old Hinostroza has proven to be a very astute pickup by GM John Chayka, and paired with Strome, a 30 goal season is not out of the question.

some context is important as usual..

Duclair played poorly in his time with the hawks (even he admitted it) then got hurt in a cheap shot and missed the the last 10 games. Hawks were not going to resign him...so good for him.

Hartman was done here: bad pens, mediocre performance and bad attitude (depending on who you want to believe); also he basically MIA with the preds and was a eating popcorn during the playoffs...ang again I now say good for him.

you can't cherry pick 13-14 games and say wow wish we still had him

- bogiedoc

I 5hink Hartman was injured during last season’s tournament - probably why he missed several games. The injury lasted into this season, I think. But I was ok with moving him - maybe he turns into a quality player - but he wasn’t going to here.

DuClair - I think they gave up on him too soon, even tho, yes - he was not good in his limited time here last season. But - only 22 - great speed, very good potential with some development. He came into the league too soon - straight out of juniors at 19, only about 11 games in the “A” when Arizona had him.

>>>In each of the last four games, the Blackhawks have actually had a higher percentage of shot attempts than their opponents. But in three of those four (the game against Vancouver the only exception), the Blackhawks have been on the negative side of the high-danger chances statistic, as compiled by Natural Stat Trick. They trailed 9-4 against the St. Louis Blues, 7-4 in last Sunday’s game against Edmonton and then had a 13-8 deficit against the Oilers on Thursday night. Those numbers match the eye test: the Blackhawks are giving up too many prime scoring chances and not generating enough of their own.<<< (HT:SCH)

there is your problem...and been that way for over 3 years...to much high quality against; no goalies can withstand and do head stands every game with that type of onslaught...

The knock on both is if they were quality top line producers. The NYR and Arizona did not want to keep Duclair, so if he is this great talent....why only did he garner Panic. Duclair seems a tease type skill player. I would guess that he has to become productive in other ways beside scoring He is on s talented team and he has been around for a while now. Early season only so far and he has 4 goals + I don"t know his TOI orfuve man units when he skates.

Hinostroza, on the other hand is someone I always wondered if he could become a versatile forward able to move on to a second or third scoring line a la Raymond Bourque. Now we will see exactly what numbers he can produce. I want to predict hat he is a better sniper or finisher than Duclair. Our local kid is the player whom might just show he can score 60 plus points. Duclair..,,,more of a prove it guy to mr

A lot of blame on Stan ,and some deserved .I still believe Q is the one that needs get out of the way . Q has driven away solid players over the years Daily Kempny Duclair Hartman Vinny all due to his ego and my way or the highway Attitude . His ego exploded after his big contract ,and the record shows it . Talk about a bad signing . I also believe Stan hands are tied at times by Q who demands older players Also his use of players right now DBC not with Kane. Hayden Schmaltz Khahun Fortin Johnson Kampf all remind me of Vinny & Declair Hartman ,given no distinct role .

I think this team could still make some noise if Q were shipped out or upstairs .With just some minor player moves ,and a fresh approach behind the bench

you are an optimistic one if you think a coaching change is going to turn a bunch of ice bumpkins: davidson, manning, gust and rutta, and pick your bottom six into something resembling NHL calber.

All three (Q, Dineen, Ulf) buddies from Hartford IIRC. Granato has been taking the in game interviews. Wonder if he is doing the looking over the shoulder that Q did with Savvy. If Q and his crew go mid season does Granato take the reins? Also think Colliton is proving himself a very capable coach.
- pdx2ord

As much as I would like Colliton to be a head coach candidate down the line and I think he would make the short list if it ever gets to that point, one fear is that who would replace him as Hogs head coach but more importantly as an astute teacher who has an above average (some may argue excellent) track record of developing players so far in his young coaching career.

I guess it would be the lesser of two evils at that point: it's much easier to find an AHL head coach who is good at player development than an NHL head coach who can lead a team to be highly competitive no matter the roster and ideally be perennial Cup contenders.

Duclair for the league minimum would have been worth the risk, they could have waived him at worst.

Speaking of giving up on players too soon, Tomas Jurco would be a good add once healthy. Better to let Sikura and Ejdsell marinate in Rockford for a full season (at least) and Jurco can fill the void in Chicago. Hayden would likely benefit from some more seasoning in the AHL too.

Obviously we would do it, but would Cbus? Any rumor on what they were asking? Stan is a move away from saving his job, he needs to do something. McD would wash his car for the rest of the year if he brings Panarin back. With the log jam at D, do you flip Schmaltz, a 2nd rounder and Forsling for Panarin and Anderson?
- nickmo2699

There's no way those three things get you Panarin but now you want CLB to add the or best young power forward. Good luck with that.

Injury might have been part of it, I'm not sure. I know he was suspended a game or 2, also a healthy scratch due to late penalties. If Beaudin and Ejdsell both equate to great talents, at least Beaudin looks it, Ejdsell needs to consistency and to get the lead out, then I'm fine.

Duclair is like Fortin. Great speed, nothing in board battles, and gets stonewalled after making a great chance for himself. Bounced around some teams. It didn't hurt to let him go, but it wouldn't have hurt to keep him. I know he had an attitude problem. Olczyck called him out all the time. Bad injury that I didn't like by Lickbag Ratchand.

Trade Schmaltz for Panarin and call it a day. CBJ's have to realize they are going to lose Panarin to Unrestricted Free Agency at end of season. Getting a first rounder for Panarin instead of losing him outright, is a steal for CBJ. Then, if you are the Hawks, give the money you were going to give to Schmaltz....give it to Panarin and then some. Yeah...the risk is there that Panarin won't resign with the Hawks. And if he does not, we will have cap space to sign someone else that would be better than Schmaltz anyway. I know Schmaltz is the whipping boy right now, me included, but does anyone see him being a superstar? I roll the dice on this trade. Especially as this team starts losing playoff position. You move Saad up to line one with Cat and Toews. Reunite Panarin with Kane and AA. Fortin, Kahun and Sikura becomes the third line. Fourth line of Kampf/Kruger/Hayden. Get Murphy back and bring up Forsling to be the new third line d-men. Trade Ruuta.

You I think I said something similar to this before the season started or whatever Panarin's deadline was ... all of this oh we gotta pay DeBrincat and Schmaltz their money stuff was ... well, I dunno ... 'why' Panarin was and is a proven commodity.

But I mean now ... if I'm Columbus, why do I do this? I imagine they got better offers for better players than Schmaltz at this point - or in short this deal totally favours the Hawks - I'd add Rutta, and whatever - but still, I doubt Columbus goes for it -- not yet, anyways. They are also looking for making some sort of splash in the playoffs (whether it happens or not -is a different story... but the only reason they even were in the discussion last season was Panarin --- so they are a bit stuck.

I imagine based upon if Rocky's statement about Xmas was legit (meaning he meant it) - then - isn't this a decision for a potential future GM? Otherwise it would have happened already? Or some other equivalent that did not involve signing a series of retreads and calling it good -while hoping for the best.

If the Hawks even go for Panarin it would be in the off-season - right now they got a GM that probably has a short leash with regards to moves ... and it is his baby - for better or worse... they definitely got the money to afford Panarin - but that would involve dealing someone like a Schmaltz or bridge deal or whatever ... who cares really if he doesn't go for it - it isn't like the guy is really integral to the results they are getting right now (and then again ... the results aren't all that hot in any event).

I guess this needs to be said until people actually get the point.....

PANARIN IS NOT COMING BACK!!!!!!

That ship sailed when they realized he is a racist and thinks the World Championship tournament is more important than the NHL playoffs.

Just try to think about this - they knew what they had - while they had him. If management considered only his regular season play - don't you think he would still be here???

There are reasons why he is gone - and salary was not one of them.

So please stop with this B.S. - pro hockey is not NHL19 - personalities and attitudes matter.....

Yes, sounds like it would be a big loss for Rockford. In the NHL, we've now got a roster full of young guys who need an astute teacher AND some old dogs that need to learn new tricks. Seems like a perfect match. Colliton's young, I know, but I also don't want to lose him a la Sullivan.

Forsling was scratched tonight in the Hogs game versus Milwaukee. During the broadcast they didn't mention whether it was a healthy scratch or it was due to injury. Hope it's just a maintenance day but we'll see.

Highmore still injured. So are Schroeder and Dahlstrom.

Hogs won 3-2 in OT. Raddysh with 2 goals including the GWG on a one-timer from Ejdsell.

Both Raddysh and Gilbert were most noticeable on defense: physical and like to jump in the play. Raddysh is a decent QB on the backend. Carlsson remains steady; not flashy but reliable. Hillman not noticeable but in a good way.

Ejdsell was a non factor until OT when he had more ice to skate around 3-on-3.

Sikura had a solid game with a strong forecheck at ES and great patience playing the Kane role on the PP. He had a goal and assist (swore he also had an assist on the 2nd goal but the scorekeeper thought otherwise).

Broadhurst stands out as well but just don't see him making the NHL. Great AHL player, though.

Agree, hope the Hawks have a long-term plan for Colliton to keep him in the fold somehow. Even if not as head coach but at least as an assistant or associate. Other NHL teams will start recruiting him for head coach openings if he continues his success at developing prospects.

He had a solid season last year but that has been his only full NHL season.

Good for the Lightning for taking a chance on the guy. It could pay off well or it could backfire. Sometimes a team has to take that chance in order to get a cap friendly deal in the long term.
