Didn't know Trouba laid down the hurting on Matthews.

Just something to think about, what is Matthews going to want/actually sign for after this year? Could injury after injury after injury affect his contract? Probably not the more I think about it, but I'm sure it will be considered.

I thought that if the Coyotes could show they were developing something special and heading in the "right" direction these past couple years, that Matthews would sign there when his contract was up in TOR.

The Tavares signing kind of complicates that. Unless, Matthews wants to be THE man and not a co-pilot with Tavares.

AZ has kind of turned things around and if they can sustain it, I think it would be cool to see a talent like Matthews head to the desert.

Even during their hot start the first 2 weeks, there were serious red flags with the amount of shots allowed, defensive zone play, and an anemic powerplay. With Toews' line slowing down and virtually ZERO depth scoring.....I think the last 2 weeks are much more accurate representation of the 2018/19 Blackhawks....sub 500 team

The positives I can find are the 2 problems are the people making the same mistakes are gone in 1-2 years, and will be replaced with some youth I am excited about. 2, the systems in place, pp and Ulf's, Bowman isn't afraid to remove Q's assistants. I can see him doing that again.

As far as the season, I will wait until the end. If you're right, I will say so, I have no shame in being wrong. I just feel it can go either way.

I've thought the same thing but it'll all depend on $$$. If Toronto wants to keep him and is willing to give him McJesus money he'll take it and not think twice. If they don't wanna and decide to move on I think he would definitely consider going back home and helping bring that Franchise back to life. Honestly should have gone their in the first place but AZ played better than they should have that year and screwed themselves. Though Keller doesn't look to be bad, I doubt anyone would take him over Matthews

Curious where you got this stat. Do you have a general link for the site?
- walleyeb1

In this case, it was data from Natural Stat Trick. On ice stats as a "Rate", like goals against per 60 minutes of icetime.

The guy who was pumping Manning's tires a while back seems to have disappeared.

I still think it was one of his relatives.

If this team continues to really struggle and its January?! You don't have a choice. Q will have to be moved out. If they go status quo the whole year and are playing .500 won't smell the playoffs hockey?

Whatever dude!! At work during the day, and don't have time to post 24/7. I ate crow and said that I thought Manning looked good as a bottom pair defensemen early on in the season. I also ate crow and said how stupid I sounded after his play went to garbage. Fair is fair and I will admit when I am wrong, and I was way off on Manning.

The Hawks looked pretty good in that second period against a mediocre team. Saad hit the post and the tying goal was on Crow as much, if not more than Davidson… Everything fell apart in the third just like in the Blues game. And as soon as the Hawks fall behind in the third, they gave up a ton of dangerous chances trying to catch-up. That may be poor coaching…

On a positive note- bringing up Forsling and a healthy Murphy means Manning, Rutta and Davidson are not in, so there’s an upgrade there possibly sparing us a goal or two a game.

In any event, having Kane in the line-up changes the dynamics greatly since he’ll be on two lines every third period and well, he’s Patrick Kane.

That’s definitely not how I want to spend late nights instead of sleeping. That’s worst part of losing those West Coast games.

I hope you know my intention in that post was not to sign all of those guys, that is impossible. Adding one of those dman in Myers or Trouba or Edmunsson...big guys who can skate, move the puck, and win physical battles. I've really got my sights set on Anders Lee who is the protypical power forward in the Top 6 that would releive some pressure on Toews/Saad/Anisimov in terms of net front/dirty work on the top 2 lines.

You move all that bottom roster talent on inflated contracts and replace them with ELC dmen in Boquist, Mitchell, Forsling and you have some money to add the NEEDED impact NHL Vet in Trouba or Lee

- EnzoD

As you rightly say the team can be turned around in a heartbeat
say you can get Trouba/Lee for $7/$8 respectively it still leaves
room for other moves

Trading Saad/Schmaltz to Minnie for Neddereiter/Coyle and you have
12-19-Nedder
Lee-Arty-Kane
Fortin -Coyle-Kahun
Kampf-Johnson-Sikura/???

Joki/Keith
Trouba/Forsling
Seabs/Boquist
Mitchell

unless Seabs become numero 7D

That team can compete for a Cup
especially if one more forward can be had.

At this point I wouldn’t even assume there’ll be a Scmaltz contract.

Hopefully not payable by the Chicago Blackhawks if more than a 2 yr/$2.5MM bridge deal to pay his dues at 3C until he learns the NHL is not a no check league.

Dont apologize man! When we signed him, he was coming off a very good year with Philly. Scheme might have played better to his style. We have just found out the Hawks scheme is not for him. It happens. Half this board could go silent after the Saad and Panarin trade went down.

I know there are more Ufa's to look at, but that's not the point. There are great names in that list though.

The beauty of extending Adb would be the fact that he would still be in his elc for another year.

With contracts coming off the books, there are still a lot of players that will need new contracts, (probably more than we lose) and Bowman, Q and company will need to decide where ties get cut, and who gets re-upped.

I like free agency, but it's not where a team should be built. Just 1 or 2 pieces to improve. Trying to entice a name or two to come to Chicago might be problematic.

- I Am The Breadman

Wait on ADB extension (or anyone's for that matter) until the summer before his contract is up. It's just not good practice to do that until you know what the cap limit is, what other needs you may have as a team in that given season, the economy.....

The hard cap doesn't allow contending level teams to be built via the draft. It is much more the other way around now. Your shot at a good young player becoming a quality NHL roster spot is at best 20-25% ONCE they get the call up.

Case in point - the Blackhawks.

How many young players on this roster now? How many have even demonstrated if they have the right stuff to stick? Joki, ADB - probably will be keepers. The rest (shrugs shoulders).

Honestly, in the last eight years, how many quality NHL players have been developed and retained by this team via the draft? Forget even how good they are today, let alone difference making players.

Even the guys we traded away at deadlines to prep for the playoffs are middling at best - Danault, Johns....

Many of the Hawks best adds have been grabs from Europe from their pro level guys that play on big ice fifty games a year. Now everyone is looking there too so its not the hot spot it used to be. More importantly they are not internally "developed" players. Maybe longer term, Colliton helps where Dent did not.

Manning and Davidson are what they are - #7 guys being asked to play #5/#6. They are cheap and wanting to hang in the NHL at all costs. And it is all the hawks have cap room for.

And we ask #5/#6 guys like Gus and Murphy to play #3/#4.

Lots of bodies, not so much talent, and lots of really young guys no one knows yet what they have in their game yet.
