They lost his rights in June when they opted not to sign him.

This league's FA rules are much too complicated for me....

Could be...might possibly depend where they pick. IMO, if the Hawks pick near the top, they will go best available and maybe choose a bit more positionally if they aren't.

But that is the dilemma we are all worried about...This team doesn't seem to be bad enough for a top 5 pick, probably not even top 10, but also only good enough to be a bubble team, and what will probably happen, is that the hawks barely miss the playoffs, and will end up picking 14th or 15th.

That is why I am thinking that if the team is not in a strong playoff position at the TDL, it would be time to make a big splash. Be in a position to give up some value to gain much, instead of being on the other end.

If the Hawks weren't in playoff position by trade deadline, maybe consider moving Keith, but I don't think they should move Toews, Kane, or Crawford. Those three are the only ones keeping the Hawks where they are, and you aren't going to find replacements for any of the three in the next few years. I also don't think they should trade any young players unless they already know that there isn't a place for them on the team in the coming years.

Q either sending a message to Kruger or he will be scratched.

I suspect the defence will be the same as last game.

Crawford starts.

Why move Keith? He is still an effective D-man with a very reasonable contract. You will not be getting anywhere near what his value to this team is. With the depth of the defensemen in the system, Keith is EXACTLY the player you would like to keep around and mentor them as they mature and become NHL d-men. If Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell, Krys, or any of the others matriculate to the NHL and are productive like Jokiharju has been so far, as Keith ages he is perfect at some point to move into the 2nd then 3rd pairing.

Rutta to DET for Kronwall, who is in the last year of his contract paying $4.75M.

That works and if necessary then turn him at the td for
pick or two, etc.etc.

Thanks Justin and BB! I'd bet that Q isn't happy with the amount of penalties from Kruger.

McD won't ever allow, changing marketing
mid season would incur costs, lower profit
margins........hockey smarts the guy don't
have.

The first article on this page has hockey content, in case anyone wants to contest its applicability to the board:

In the post practice interview they asked him about Krugers penalties...

https://www.nhl.com/black...er/t-277437096/c-62443403

Q basically said he likes what he is getting from Kruger 5 on 5 and the "relentlessness" but seems he wants him on the ice killing penalties and not in the box.

I don't know if the message will be being off the line for practice or if he will be scratched tomorrow.

Random and awesome signing.

An original 6th rounder from BUF in 2016 but became a free agent.

He's 3rd in the league in scorer and is 6'1 / 174 lbs. He's a LW.

Don't know much more about the 20-year old Alberta native, but his signing puts the Hawks to 48/50 contracts.

I wouldn't put too much stock in his over-age jr numbers..

The last question to Q was if Kruger will play tomorrow.
Q's answer: "We'll see."

That's why I said maybe a center, as it depends on what's best available, but I still think they go with a fortiet choice, then ward...
- ToewsdNKanefusd

They need to add a tough gritty top suc forward..I am ok if only a moderate scorer as long as skating size grit all present. If it is not a top tier choice, I am not so behind the best players available theory. We should not expect Stan to draft the best forward the team needs.....StanBo likes to pull these later round lchoices out of Rockford to be his gritty Shaw type....i can see him going for another Schmaultz
type..... remember Toews is not the same style player he once was

We need to draft a Tzachuk type.

Rumor is that Bowman is often not on the same page as the scouting staff. Not saying this is the exact scenario but it could be the case of the scouting staff wanting to take best available while Bowman covets the "modern NHL defenseman" (i.e. prospects like Jokiharju, Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell, etc) no matter what.

Who knows, maybe it's the other way around. My gut thinks the first scenario is more plausible.
