February 10, 2018, in front of Jeff Glass.

He let in 3 of the 19.

Lost 3-0.

Panarin had a great one timer. But a lot of it was because he was continually repositioning himself so that he gave Kane a path to get him the puck. He was smart that way. ADB does the same thing. It might not be a one timer, instead it is a wicked wrister. It might take him a little longer to get the shot off and get it to the net, but he has a wicked quick release and can elevate it and pinpoint it with anyone. His quick release and accuracy can be just as effective as the one timer.

ADB has a scary fast release and he can pick corners from the tops of the circles.

The kid is incredibly talented and knows how to get into the soft areas and make himself available for a pass.

Manning is too inconsistent for me. His ill-advised attempt to stickhandle inside the Rangers blueline and resulting turnover lead directly to the Rangers’ goal.
- Z3Hawk

Manning is not a good hockey player on any team or in any situation. Pretty big pro scouting fail by the hawks.

Maybe he was just being calm and professional. Some buys don't celebrate as much as others. Schmaltz is all about taking care of business.
- DarthKane

I didn’t have an issue with his attitude either. I took it more as a sign of “this is what I’m supposed to be doing” instead of jumping up and down and getting all excited because he did something right.

The Central Division is also pushing for all the wildcard spots in the West. Central teams can potentially outpoint Pacific teams and still miss the playoffs.
- 67hawks

5th Place team in the Central would be 1st in the Pacific. Other than SJ, there’s not much there. Kings and Ducks are bad.

What is going on with the kings??? Talk about laying an egg. Just 1 point ahead of DET for worst in the league.

So - why were they playing him on the point on the PP, at least during the Annie game (I didn’t see last nite’s game against the Rags)?

The Kane goal was a huge effort from the Cat. Enters the Zone 1v2, makes a nice move to get a high and hard shot on lundquist, goes to the corner to follow his rebound, wins a puck battle, threads a pass to Anisimov and it's in the back of the net shortly after. LOVE the Cat's skill and tenacity. He looks quicker and stronger this year, in addition to his world-class offensive ability.

So he can bomb shots on goal from above the circles or float into the middle when they get into that umbrella

i didnt like that facial reaction by Schmaltz after he assisted on the Fortin goal - almost like, yeah we scored, but i am not happy to be on Line 3 - thoughts anyone?
- glennjpawlak22

I can't believe what some are female doging about Schmaltz now is his facial expression after he makes maybe the second best pass for a goal this year.

Come on man.......

Just be honest and say no matter what he does, you don't like him. Unbelievable.

When I saw it, my first opinion was like "take that female doges!"

The Kings are not looking good right now and Doughty's $11M does not kick in until next year. Looking at some of the contracts being handed out by other teams (lately by the Knights), it brings us to a more favorable relative position cap wise. If Bowman can start to show some restraint especially with RFA's where he does hold the hammer, we should be in good shape going forward.
- 67hawks

That's mostly because the cap has gone up to where it should've been 4 years ago. Kane and Toews wouldn't look as bad, and Saad wouldn't have been traded if it would have gone up like it should of.

I still wonder what Panarin's first season would have produced if they hadn't needed to trade Saad.

Hell, probably wouldn't have had to trade TT as a give away to get rid of Bicks if it went up to 80 mil when it should've.

We are at the point of bashing Schmatlz bc of his facial expressions? The kid back checks like no one else on the Hawks. If he lacked passion we wouldn't see him give a crap after losing possession.

Again Q puts him on the PK. If Q didn't like Schmaltz's play or defensive awareness or demeanor you can bet he wouldn't be out on the PK.

I've never seen a 22 year old ragged so much. This is like all those years posters ragged on Kane and wanted him gone

Agreed with the first two sentences and the last one, but even with an AHL dman in the lineup...I can't wish injury on the guy. Unfortunately, I fear we are stuck watching Manning this year and next, another brilliant Stan Bowman signing! Good for Stan as appears to have found a legit NHL winger in Kahun. But Kunitz, unless hes a HUGE voice in the locker room and on the bench....probably worse at hockey today than John Scott or Brandon Mashinter both were.

Murphy + 2nd for Nylander??

- EnzoD

You're a guy constantly reminding us how small and "soft" the Hawks are yet are constantly suggesting they get Nylander. Nylander would equal another foray into cap hell for a forward who makes Schmatz seem tough and with the biggest team need, defense, very suspect and unaddressed.

Count me in the "don't want Nylander" camp, given the current situation. He's a talented player and in a different situation I would like him to play with the Hawks. If a straight up Schmaltz for Nylander trade would be possible - then I'd probably say yes, but not if it costs more than that.

shorter team need is Team D - we need 1 more Top 6 and need to round out the bottom 6. i think D is trending up next few years

It's still early but it appears that Q has reduced the speed on his blender from "crush" to "stir gently".

Maybe this is on the recommendation of management, feed back from the players, self introspection or all of the above. But I am glad he did lower his speed and I think the results have been favorable.

Agree, one of the short-term needs is the blueline. Hopefully the return of Forsling and Murphy can provide better options in the back end. I do like this as potential pairings:

Keith - Jokiharju
Gustafsson - Seabrook
Forsling - Murphy

Manning is likely the one to stay as 7th defender with Davidson sent to Rockford and Rutta traded for picks.

Murphy is a waste of nearly $4mil in cap space for a 3rd pair dman with terrible foot speed(who now has a bad back). I'm impressed by Nylander when I watch him play. Murphy at $3.5mil or Nylander at $6mil? easy choice for me. Boquist will make the team next year, and I wouldn't bet against Mitchell making the team either. Dahlstrom looks like a legit 3rd pair guy. Keith, Seabs, Jokiharju and those guys (plus Forsling) and the D is pretty full already. Nylander is a legit talent and can be acquired for a discount given the Leafs predicament. hell, I'd trade and sign Nylander then flip him for Dman, if possible.

Another need is to tighten up the bottom 6. I personally prefer Schmaltz to play top 6 with Anisimov playing 3C like he did to start the season but am fine for now with the current situation.

I do like the Fortin and Schmaltz combo but don't like Johnson as a 3rd liner. He's agile and hits people but he's a 4th liner playing above his pay grade (temporarily I hope). Still think eventually replace Johnson with Sikura or even Highmore, say by Thanksgiving, to result in a 3rd line of:

Fortin - Schmaltz/Anisimov - Sikura

Hayden has his flashes of strong play but, as someone else stated, if he's not bringing a physical element every shift and instead wants to play a finesse game, then he's not really that effective. Keep it simple and play heavy like Martinsen. If he can do that, a 4th line with Kruger centering Hayden and either Martinsen, Johnson, or Kunitz could be worth it.

I like the looks of that. D is/will be fine.
I'm pretty much happy with the top 6. If they can get a winger, fine, if they don't, also fine. The price would be too high. Bottom 6, mainly the 4th line, needs a little work.

You just posted this in better detail. I'm always slow to the draw.

So you think the leafs are going to take back an overpaid, slow defenseman with a bad back? The word here in Toronto is Nylander is looking for allot more than $6M a season. As for
Boqvist, Mitchell et all, the next step to the NHL is huge. It's a long shot one will make the jump and probably no chance all of them do at once. Schmaltz is close to ability to Nylander with more cost certainty plus he's homegrown which is good for team chemistry. If and when the leafs unload Nylander I think you'll find their asking price will be more than the Hawks can afford.
