Tonight’s lines should be:

G-Coots-TK
Laughton-Patrick-Jake
Weal-Vorobyev-Simmonds
Lindblom-Lehtera-NAK

But, oh well

Um ok, but what exactly does this do for them now with both JVR and Raffl injured?
- BiggE

Nothing, just a way to put Giroux at center to prove a meaningless agenda.

It's simple, really. Thanks for setting everything straight. I see the light now.

I personally feel Weal blows on the wing and would swap him with Lindblom.

They were good example as you say Lindblom has played higher in the line up.

I never called out Lehtera or Weise as the problem this season. It is about who is better and has more potential to give that one rare goal. Lindblom over Weise- yes.

Lindblom has the game to be an effective 4th line winger. He plays well in board battles and away from the puck. I didn't see anything that stood out from Knight in a small sample. Weise has played okay but it's not as if he has been a stand out on the PK.

I think the idea is to mentor and support Vorobyev with Weal and Simmonds, and Weal can help him with face offs.

Speaking of the PK...

Obviously everyone hates the passive box the Flyers throw out. I would love for Lappy to create hybrid units, some more aggressive ones with passive ones. Depending on the players on each unit I would adjust accordingly because right now the PK is so damn predictable.

I think it should be an either or situation between Vorbyev and Weal at center. To this point, Weal has shown more.

Yeah after I typed it, I realized Weal could add a different dimension to the 3rd line while Lindblom could support the 4th line with defensive stability with NAK's aggressive tendencies.

This is exactly it. Knight should be in as well to take the PK minutes. Also, he looked good on a line with Lindblom in the one preseason game.

I wouldn't mind seeing what Misha could do on the wing. I believe, could be wrong, that he did play wing in preseason with Laughton at center.

Last night, I reviewed every PPGA in the Flyers games so far. While I can't completely remove the Flyers strategy from the root cause, by far the issues were simple player execution. Right down to simple fundamentals such as stick positioning. I'm in favor of being more aggressive but I don't see that as a clear fix. It has the potential to open up other issues.

I just don't want to jerk him around as a player. I think he has a chance to be a good player for the Flyers and swapping him around is not good player development.

I know it would be more minutes but I think they need to start getting Sanheim and Gostisbehere out there. I know they aren't your big body shot blockers but both have active sticks and the skating to help either clear pucks or get them out of trouble.

Plus they might be able to press a little more.

That’s fine with me, IMO, he’s one more lazy stick penalty from a seat in the Cote suite

I know what you are saying here. I guess I just like Vorobyev more. Might be more of a preference. He is obviously raw in some areas, but I like the elite vision and passing I saw.

What other issues could it open up...goals scored against the PK? I am not asking for a full overhaul just 1 aggressive unit with the players to execute it. I watch other teams apply an aggressive approach towards them and it absolutely kills momentum for them.

That's why wing scares me, he gets bodied easily and takes a stupid penalty.

Would not be against a Sanheim-Ghost pair for an aggressive unit.

Doesn't matter, if they change up the system, they might get scored upon frequently.

After about 5 more games, there should be enough PK tape to get a decent evaluation. Right now if they can execute better, it would help.

How about this as a dream after injuries...

Giroux-Couturier-JvR
Laughton-Patrick-Voracek
Konecny-Vorobyev-Simmonds
Lindblom-Weal-Raffl

NAK

Provorov-Ghost
Sanheim-Gudas
Hagg-Myers

MacDonald

Hart
Elliott

Update: But what happened to the other players? Mini golf incident involving Weise, Lehtera, Folin and Neuvirth.

I don't think "Stand back and wave your stick around" is going to work no matter how many times you try it. Teams are way more skilled now than they were 10 years ago, even 5 years ago, and the passive box allows the skilled players to slowly pick you apart.

If they're more aggressive, yes, it draws you out of position, but it also forces these players to execute plays with less time and space. So sure, you're gonna get beat some times, but I'd rather have the Flyers FORCE them to score than ALLOW them to score.
