Kappi is showing us anyone can play and get points with Matthews. All respect to kappi......he’s a good player. However.......clearly we don’t need Nylander and his $8mil demands. Kappi can do the job cheaper, and arguably better! He definitely is faster, works harder, and shows up every game! Trade the princess.

Clearly we can inflate Kap and trade him before Nylander says kidding and signs a 5x6

This is all on Dubas. Dubas should have signed him as soon as he had the chance, while simultaneously getting him to take a team friendly contract. Dubas is obviously being way too soft while also being way too rigid, and subsequently not getting the job done.

This is a dumb comment. Nylander was always going to be out for a paycheck. He's not a team-first player and neither was his dad. Both greedy. Dubas has shown nothing but class and poise since becoming the new GM in arguably the toughest market in the hockey world.

How can you possibly say it's all on Dubas? If Nylander had decided from the beginning, even going back to last year, that he wasn't going to sign for less than what he's currently asking for, how the (frank) can you blame Dubas? Blame him for not just caving in and giving him whatever he wants?

If you want to blame Dubas, blame him for signing Tavares. Or for signing Marleau. Those are the two guys eating up the money that could be going to Nylander. Tavares, you just can't complain about. Marleau, you could but that was most likely a Lou / Babcock idea. Otherwise, you can't really blame Dubas.

Marleau has been an excellent contributor to the team. On the score sheet and as a mentor for the young guys. That was a smart move.

Everyone saying trade Nylander, Kap can do it. How many games has it been? We know nothing yet. Trade Nylander and if Kapanen dries up then everyone will be calling for Dubas' head saying "how could you let a talent like that go!?" The current success of the Leafs lowers Nylander's bargaining abilities for sure. But to say he's expendable already is premature.

Dubas is trying to much to be buddies with the young guys. He’s having them over to play video games and sit in the basement smoking weed while his mom makes meatloaf. He’s just trying to piggy back off them and score some girls.

He’s forgetting that he’s the gm and has to to sign them to contracts still. He might not even know that he only has till dec 1 or nylander can’t play this year. I haven’t seen it brought up once.

I was trying to emulate some dumbass comments that people make about Dubas in a cheeky way by trying to highlight the contradictions people make in their arguments on a regular basis. *ahem max

In general, I like that Dubas is being hard-nosed in his first negotiation. Can't give everyone everything.

After watching the Isles play Brock Nelson on the 2nd line up the middle, having skilled wingers that can play Centre is fantastic.

You can get a 40 year old veteran "mentor" for 1 million dollars as a UFA. Marleau always was and still is overpaid. Rather have that 6 million free to pay Nylander. It was a short term move. Hopefully he decides to retire so he can be traded to Arizona next year and free up that cap space.

Even if Kapanen can't do (even though he can), it doesn't really matter as long as Nylander gets moved for a legit defenseman. The Leafs have no problem scoring goals. Tavares, Matthews and Marner are fully capable of taking a young ELC player with a bit of talent and turning them into a top-six forward. Tavares did it for years in Long Island. Turned nobodies into 30 goal scorers.

Nylander is surplus, Nylander is expendable.

Take any top player from any top team and they will suffer. Using an injury is a lame excuse, especially when it'd be Tavares filling the void, followed by Marner and Kadri.

Sorry, you cant get talent, skill, quality 40 year olds who can still score and make a top line better for anywhere close to a million.
No.

But you can keep your 22 year olds, so (frank) the 40 year old, he can (frank) off and keep the young guys who still have 1000 games ahead of them. In no universe is Marleau's 6 million better spent on Marleau than on Nylander.
