P Ham said to make room for Larsson, the Sabres retroactively put Bogo on IR since October 4. So "day-to-day" really meant IR.

I assume they handled it this way to protect Bogo's ego

They also do it that way to manage the cap. If they put Bogo on IR to start the season, then they have to call someone up, which puts them over the cap.

It's a juggling act right now, with 2 legit longer term injuries and 1 extra man on the roster and a couple shorter term injuries. With a 3rd person on IR, it balances out. With any more or less, it forces real moves.
