Just last week I told you I was done with Strome, and he was a bust. I was (joyfully) eating those words last night as Strome was the best player on the ice for both sides.
3 years of never seeing anything remarkable from him against NHL competition, and then suddenly it came pouring out. He actually made two plays to Keller that caught KELLER off guard and he wasn’t prepared to receive the pass.
I didn’t officially count but I think there were at least 6 highlight reel moments by Strome in the offensive zone, but what really made it stand out was his repeated pick pockets in the d zone. He was actually amazing there too. And while I know face offs don’t matter as much as we think, anytime a young player is winning 70% of anything, it is reason for excitement. He’s almost automatic on the draw.
I’m shocked I am saying this, but I was dead wrong...Strome was a bonfide 1st line center last night. And now that his offense his complemented by defense and face offs, I really have no clue what they are going to do when Galch and Dvorak come back.
All in all VERY EXCITING! Three straight games of complete coyotes domination...a long time coming! |

Ducks played like crap and still got a point. They had 3 breakaways and couldn't score. They're without 3 of their top 4 forwards, and this was Kesler's first game all year. Number of shots given up is meaningless if the quality of such shots is poor.. Az scored on the PP and on a shortie. 5 on 5 Arizona was outscored 2-0. Gibson miffed on a poke-check in the SO which resulted in the only shootout goal.
Two of your three games were against a severely depleted Ducks roster, and your team managed 1 point. Don't plan the parade just yet. |

So what you’re saying is good advanced metrics don’t equal results that matter(wins) at the end of the day? Shocker! |

Yay for season stats three games in when two of those games are played against a team without 6 or their top 9 forwards. If they can keep playing the San Diego Gulls with a few Anaheim Ducks mixed in all season long, the Coyotes might just barely miss the playoffs. |

Take your logic and leave, it has no place here. |

Somehow, the Ducks just picked up three of the most undeserving points ever attained in the NHL, out of a possible four.
This happens quite a bit actually. But good for the Yotes...they were due and your boy scored. |

Watched the last 5 min of the game and OT and shootout. Sounded like a good game. Sure the hell wasn't. OT - exciting.............um nope. The Coyotes had the puck for the majority and skated and skated (like the Globe Trotters - but not as good.). No ONE would shoot the puck. Just wanted the Ducks not to have it. Crazy. The OT was actually painful. There were only two shots in the last 45 seconds (1 per team). I never knew you could actually dumb down OT but the Coyotes did. There coach was playing NOT to lose and wanted the shoot out. I'm afraid as long as he is there the Coyotes are doomed longer in the basement again this year. |

Two games against a very depleted Ducks squad, And a Stars roster that likes to play "track meet" style games. Lets hold the "VERY EXCITING" for when the Yotes win the possession war against teams such as the Jets and Preds shall we? |

You think that was bad, you should have seen the first game between these teams. The Yotes had a 6 on 3 for the final minute of the game and barely got a shot off. Unbelievably incompetent. |

I don’t disagree with what everyone is saying. I definitely don’t think the Coyotes are in the Jets/Preds class, and at best are years away from that. I am simply saying that after years and YEARS of blown talent and wasted potential and nothing to show for it, it’s fun to see some of it mature. Specifically for someone that has been waiting to see something out of Strome for YEARS, last night was VERY EXCITING.
Yes I know the Ducks were depleted, but remember I am a coyotes fan. We would’ve lost that anyways the last few years
And I also agree that the coyotes are getting weak perimeter shots, but after 4-5 years of being outshot nearly every game, it’s exciting to open the season with some dominating performances. I would rather dominate those metrics and then figure out how to increase quality, rather than just be dominated all the time in both quantity and quality.
All in all, I truly believe the Coyotes will finish around 8-10th in the conference this year, meaning a playoff hopeful....which again may be boring for Ducks fans, but is 100s of games in the making for a Coyotes fan!! |

I would generally agree with you, but watch last nights game. I have hated the very sound of Stromes name and I became a fan last night. He was dynamic every moment he was on the ice. Sure Getzlaf and Perry would’ve tilted the ice, but they wouldn’t have changed the fact that Strome was flying and had eyes in the back of his head all night.

Don't you know that powerplays have no bearing or impact on hockey games? Only shot attempts at 5v5 matter. |

Very realistic expectation!
And i can see why Yoters fans would be excited for their up and coming team, However winning possession/shot metrics against the depletd Ducks and the Stars is not exactly a true assessment of this Yotes team.
And James does nothing to help himself when he states " this Yotes team has no weak spots on it" And then states Strome is playing with "losers"(any player making the NHL is not a loser).
I see the Yotes as a bubble team! They have a good/great goalie, A decent defense! I am not even close to being as sold on them as James is!. And a decent crop of "unproven forwards" ??????? The forwards are the big, BIG ? for their team. But even without getting into the "potential" variant, Anybody looking at this team as constructed can plainly see that they will struggle to score goals. Can they win enough 2-1, 3-2 games to squeak into a playoff spot is anybody's guess! |
