That's pretty awful. I was afraid of that pairing and it seems to be founded. Was there any stats on the RIikola pairing? He didn't look all that great but he's been out of game action for 2 weeks.
- Thorny87

According to Penguins twitter, people seemed to like Riikola but thought Oleksiak played like dog. Haven't seen any statistical analysis on how the pairing did. I'm sure Marshal will do something regarding our defenseman soon since Maatta going to the box is pretty controversial and the Johnson-Schultz pairing that resulted did really poorly.

It should be noted that Maatta-Johnson had one ok game against the Caps and one really bad game against Montreal, so they're batting at 50% so far in a really sample size. Makes me even more concerned that Sullivan was so quick to pull the trigger on Maatta. It was really only one bad game.

Im all about your suggested pairings yesterday with the 3rd pairing being Rikky and JJ...Big O being the odd man out right now.

Big O had the time and space a few times for his big boomer shot last night but opted to take a writers instead...that irritated me a bit along with his gaffes.

Fact Check:.

While you can always create nice-to-read numbers while hidding other facts with some multipliers and divisors, this (thanks to Pensburgh: https://www.pensburgh.com...eview-pittsburgh-penguins) are his naked numbers of 2017-18, real(!) facts:

That all with productive teammates like Jake Guentzel, Patric Hornqvist and Kris Letang.

For comparison Evgeni Malkin:

No, Sid is great - no question, i just hope for us he refinds his game or consolidates on a higher level - because in my opinion the drop off is really noticeable.

McDavid was literally the only forward with more 5v5 on ice High Danger Shot Atempts For than Crosby.

The dropoff is real.

Trade him for Larkin.

In 16 mins with Oleksiak
(for-against)
Shot attempts: 17-20
Shots on goal: 8-11
Scoring chances: 8-7
High Danger shot attempts: 1-3

Not great but I would say very acceptable for a 3rd pair in a game in which score effect had a large impact late in the game.

I thought Johnson was pretty good but nothing special. He's actually been pretty reliable defensively. Schultz hasn't been great yet. Oleksiak seems to have problems with decision making. I guess that's the thing that got him shipped out of Dallas. He's similar to Maatta to me.... Over estimates his abilities. Maatta and Oleksiak should play safer, steadier games. They shouldn't be joining rushes like they're the next Paul Coffey.

Sid was easily our best player in the first two games. Wasn't great last night, but neither were his linemates. All of them had very meh games. Geno's line carried the show.

My biggest surprise was Sprong looked decent in all 3 zones. Seemed like he was finding some confidence. It was interesting because I saw Recchi coaching him up showing him something on the Ipad and the look on Sprong's face was "leave me alone". Obviously I'm just reading into it, but it just seemed like Sprong might be tired of the nitpicking. I'm not sure I blame him.

Sheahan has the best on ice 5v5 HDCF/60 for the forwards this season so obviously Crosby has passed him the torch.

The Finnish third pairing excites me. That could be really good. If we get to the point where that’s our unquestioned second pairing and Johnson and Oleksiak are getting rotated on the third pairing with Schultz, we’re golden.

I wonder who has more value in a GM's eyes Schultz or Maatta?

It may not even be Johnson. Schultz has been putrid and pairing those two together seems like a terrible idea even if they're both playing well.
- Victoro311

JJ did a lot of good individual things in his own end. He’s been really good at pinning guys in and getting them off the puck.

Im up 369-278...but having said that I was losing all last week until after Saturday night. Just like other formats of fantasy hockey, the Saturday in the week can change everything because there's so many teams in action.

I’m up 353.50 to 337.50.

Definitely a turnaround from last week.
