Wouldn't blame Smith for that one. Blues were flying in the first creating lots of chances. Good push back by the Flames.

Smith should stop acting like a pre(frank)ing Madonna and stop touching the puck every time it comes in our zone. He’s not “ another d man out there” he’s a goalie who’s better than some at handling the puck, but he’s way over confident!

Our defence don’t know what he’s going to do. How does that help our breakout?

My question is why is Peluso on the roster tonight? Jonny gets slashed and decked and nothing? If you have a guy like that on your roster he should be sending a message.

He tried to fight Edmundson, and Edmundson just laughed. Do you really want him taking a dumb penalty when they're trying to come back?

Exactly. They have to wait for him to start the play. In theory that's great but only if the D can actually receive the puck near the blue line. If he holds onto the puck until he decides to give it up, he's just wasting time and allowing the Fs more opportunity to put more pressure on the D.
On the bright side, the last 2 games Bennett has looked like a different person. Credit to Peters encouraging him no doubt.

Yeah man Bennett is looking great. Someone On Reddit flames did up an article talking about what his trade value might be and posted a bunch of stats. Actually worth looking at.

The pass Bennett made to Neal for the first goal was pretty slick.

Treliving loves Bennett. He has said that Bennett is one of the few forwards that has really neutralized Kesler in the playoffs. Bennett really elevates his game & his style is more effective in the playoffs. Would take a real strong offer to pry him out of Calgary. Its not like he will be holding out for huge money like Nylander. He'll get a 5-6 year deal in the Lindholm type of bracket under 5.0 mill. What's wrong with that??? We have just have to adjust expectations a bit ourselves & then we'll find we have a hell of a 2nd-3rd line player that will be paid accordingly.
I actually really liked that Bennett-Backlund-Lindholm line a lot!!! Lindholm is a heck of a player.

Too much money. If the team paid on potential, ya. But the challenge is the glimpses of brilliance don't equate to that kind of a contract. Its just what do he (and his agent) put his value at? I would rather he stay here. I think if we were to lose him, it would bite us in the ass later. He's sooooo close but hasn't come to fruition, yet...

I truly think its a confidence thing. Once he finds it he will start to dominate.

I agree, its just when does Treliving begin contract talks because if it were (hypothetically) today, I'd have a tough time seeing him make more than 3 million per...
I like Bennett, I think he HAS the upside but if the present continues...

Well then give him the the minutes to take off. Did you see his jump last night when he finally got off that 4th line. When he finally got to play with Backlund & Lindholm he totally belonged in a top 6 role. Im sorry, but I think Czarnik has a lot of offensive talent but he doesnt bring anything that Bennett can bring.Yet Czarnik has been getting more opportunities than Bennett. I kind of wish we never signed Neal & we kept that cap space for a high end goalie. But I would love to see Peters go into Colorado starting Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk followed by Bennett-Backlund-Lindholm
Now that's a top 6!
3rd line can be blended often with the likes of Dube,Neal,Janko,Ryan,Frolik&Czarnik

I dont mind Frolik in that bottom 6 mix, he's great on PK & he has 1 more year after this. Ryan is a useful player & is definitely a bottom 6 forward. Neal is a little pricey for being a bottom 6 guy, but if you give him PP time, then I guess you can get his minutes up & money's worth that way.

I have a buddy & hockey pooler that does a lot of volunteer work with the Flames & he even goes on the road for some away games each year & he makes a point of getting to know & chatty with management. I can unequivocally say that from Trelivings mouth, he is a huge Sam Bennett fan & has said in the two playoffs Bennett has played in, he was one of the best Flames forwards in the playoffs. It would take an amazing offer to pry him away from this organization. There will be no selling for pennies on the dollar for this kid. 6 year 25 mill deal would be an absolute steal for Bennett as is. You heard it here first! :->

I never saw Bennett play junior so I don't know if his style has changed but imo he's been watching JG and taking notes. If he can improve his possession he could be a serious player.

Any love for Rittich getting a 20 minute shutout? I thought he looked pretty solid.

Fck off dude! Give the guy an effing chance. There’s going to be growing pains.

Maybe we give up on him and trade him!!

- Clyde334

I'm not saying trade him. I'm just sick of reading this blog every odd day, and hearing how much a player played terribly if it plays into the analytical analysis the blogger presents repeatedly. Like an "I told you so" opinion piece. But as soon as a player who this blog has touted as having amazing Corsi numbers has a terrible game, and was the worst player on the ice, they gloss over it as an "okay game". Just be honest and admit sometimes that the players you've touted as the ones (if you were the coach) you'd put in the lineup had a terrible game. Don't fire a kid because of a bad game, but honestly if you're so critical over so many other players and calling for their jobs, just be bloody F'in consistent with your criticism. I for one think this blog needs to lay off the "fire that guy!" approach, and consider this is their lively hood. But be consistent with your critism atleast and admit Anderson was terrible in that Nashville game.
