Lundgren says drugs were commonplace in New York at the time, and although he claims he didn’t get too involved, the same cannot be said for “Slave to the Rhythm” singer Jones and her entourage.
He said: “Back then everybody in her circle was doing heavy drugs — cocaine, crack and smoking weed. I didn’t know anything about drugs, I was just training at the time. This was before drugs were a menace to society, it was just rich people who were having fun at Studio 54. They weren’t breaking into cars stealing s—t and killing people, so nobody cared. You could do drugs openly in a restaurant in New York in the ’80s and nobody would say anything, not even the waiters. It was fine at the time.”

It happens every year... - Feds91Stammer
From Gino Reda's tweet two days ago:
For those who thought scoring was up due to more streamlined goalie equipment?... Not exactly.
After 35 games last season- 217 goals total
After 35 games this season - 218 goals total
Net difference? 1 additional goal total thru 35 games.

No mention of goalie equipment adjustments mainly smaller chest protectors... That's the trend. You give the skilled players 1/2" or more and they will and have exploited it thus far. - phycobillymac

Could it be the constant goalie equipment changes? If that’s the case, that goalies really have a disadvantage this year, that sucks for the teams that rely on defense over offense. - RobShouts

From the 4 games I've watched so far, I think that's 100% what it is. There's a lot going in under the goalies arms so far, right in the area where padding was shaved off. Exciting last shot wins hockey is back. - leafsfann

Ek is thinking of the Canada-Russia WJC semi-final game in Ottawa. Canada scored with 2 secs left in the 3rd to win in O.T. |

Personally, I like the 3-2 games with defense. - BlackhawkMike
Same here, but the refs have to call 15 penalties a game. It really hurts the flow of the game. |

The Monday Night Miracle is another notable 6-5 game. It’s a shame the Blues couldn’t pull off the game 7 win. |

Scoring was only slightly up overall last year, 2.97 goals per team per game. (Hockeyreference.com) Only up from 2.77. This tells me that star players hogged (so to speak) most of the goals and bottom 6 players scored fewer, which explains the large increase in point per game players. Also, last year an expansion team thinned rosters slightly. Its not the rules. The rules dont help, except decreases in goalie equipment, which to be fair, has been enforced this year.
My remembrance of scoring rate discussions early on in almost every season and also my fantasy hockey experience tells me that scoring is always up in the first few weeks. You say lack of attention to defense, I say goaltenders take more time to get in top form. Also, young defenders are still learning the ropes early and are victimized more this time of year. GMs and coaches either fix the defenders, or drop them to AHL/juniors. And most of all, early season success is related to players trying to win jobs (similar to the defender theory) so their effort is increased. Once everyone settles into the lineups, the dog days of the season set in. Veryone always points out how exciting playoffs are and why cant the players play like that year round. Scoring settles back down mid season soo players can save themselves from the 82 game grind.
Lastly, its not the rules. Gretzky 1985 did not face goalies with the equipment and coaching they now have. And the style and size (on average). He also didnt face teams coached as well defensively. Sure it was more clutch and grab, which slowed players down, but the team defense is better. As is the skating ability of defenders. But goalies are the biggest reason, by far. Didnt you just write a blg in the past week anout Price and how this sport should be called goalie? |

I was thinking the same thing, is he really talking about increased scoring after a few games.
I wouldn't know about scoring, since the isles played Monday then somehow have a mini bye until sat then another break until Wednesday. |

A much better and simpler time. Lighting up a cig is an act of terrorism. Hell, I could throw a pack of peanut butter crackers into a school and shut it down.
