Well I stand corrected on Ward ,played a decent game from what I seen of the game ,missed the 1st 1/2 as could not find it on the NHL center Ice package ,thanks to some kind posters for the help (Patshart ..St,LBravestFan ) cable company could not even tell me were it was . Good to have fellow HAWKS fans around .. Cheers

I think the HAWKS were ok last night ,and did get 1 on the PP .They ran in to a very desperate team last night ,who are better then their record indicated .Hope Q is starting to see he has a motivated and healthy Captain who can and will carry this team on his back .

Q has to be a little smarter running the same old same old out there all the time. Let some others go, sure they will make mistakes that is how they learn .The core make the same mistakes because they are dead tired ,they are not 25 anymore .

All and al still a decent start ..GO HAWKS !!!!

And we could and should have prevented a team within our Division from getting 2 points in the standings.
- 67hawks

YES!!! That is a BIG swing there.

We went from us getting 2 and Minny 0
to
Minny getting 2 and us 1

Instead of being +2 on Minny, we end up -1....that's a 3 point swing in the standings.

If we end up battling Minny for a wild card spot...those 3 points will be HUGE!!!!

try caststreams on the internet. Works great for me.

All games, home and away feeds. Great quality....and only 30 or so seconds delayed it seems.

Geeezz ..... stop blaming all these indiduals ! This game simply comes out to this .... you must never give up a goal with less than minute remaining in the period. Wild's 2nd goal came with only THREE seconds left in second period and the 3rd goal came with TWENTY THREE seconds left in the period. That is inexcusable !!! CLEAR A BODY AND CLEAR THE PUCK What started out as good game in Hawks favor, wound up a heart breaker because they could not hold on for few seconds longer

I'm really enjoying watching these games. Good compete. Exciting hockey. More than I expected.

Not to pile on Saad (even though he probably deserves it), but does anyone have a real explanation on what's going on here? He looks like a 6mm a year Jack Skille out there.

Is it his confidence? Was he just a product of stacked Stanley cup winning rosters? Was he ever good?

He honestly looks listless out there. Doesn't pass the eye test. Doesn't pop. The puck NEVER finds his stick, and if it miraculously does he looks sloppy and one dimensional. I just don't get it. I understand confidence can shake a players offense and creativity...but it's no excuse to not make things happen in other ways.

Sorry, I totally piled on Saad.

pretty decent comparison...he just can't finish...he gets great chances (even last year) he is like sharp on the breakaway or shoot out...goalie pad magnet

I know I will be in the minority here ,but felt Saad was playing hard last night .Almost put the game away twice ,I know almost don't feed the baby .Out front of the net puck missed by a inch maybe then the breakaway well those are 50 /50 at best he shot the puck to the right spot mid level stick side ,dubie just made a decent save .. I think he will come around and get some puck luck also .. hope so anyway

Yes - could have and should have - but the will be several games during the season where the Hawks get points they shouldn't have, and give up some they shouldn't have.

And the 3 point swing could be important next April.

But at this point it's more important to understand why it all happened, and (for the coaches and players) to figure out how to correct all of the "whys".

Just generally: a defense that (after the first period) put up very little resistance at the d-zone blue line; a defense that scrambled in its own zone to much and failed to clear; mistakes by individual players (Kampf not shooting on the empty net, Kane skating into trouble and turning the puck over instead of getting it deep, others); probably some coaching decisions about who should be on the ice in particular situations....

Takes for last night's game as I the board exploded and I do not have the time to go through all the posts:

1. Toews is definitely back as last night he was the distributor. Don't know about TOI for his line but it should be more the Kane's line
2. D is still work in progress but let's term this TEAM D; forwards are scrambling and out of position with not much communication in D zone
3. D losing many 1 v 1 battles in D zone; Joker has to learn to face up to opposing player, he likes to turn his back on the player and play and must be stronger on his stick but it will come
4. 3rd line is a mess; calling Dylan Sikura as play-maker
5. Have to accept the risk/reward ratio of Gus; there is no doubt he is dynamite offensively; he can play blind folded with Kane
6. Yes Ward had a good game but jury is still out
7. I'll probably get roasted on this...Kane's loses possession to easily on PP to end game leading to game tying goal. There your competition is the CLOCK and NOT the WILD especially on PP. Got to be smarter than that

You have blinders on caused by your hatred of Ulf. Everything is always Ulf’s fault.
- walleyeb1

I reserve “hatred” for people like rapists - don’t have it for coaches. To the point unless you are prepared to say Ulf has done a great job with the D last year and so far this year there is not much you should be saying. The Hawks’ D has been awful since Ulf got here - to suggest otherwise is to be unobjective.

For a team in transition and supposed to suck I'm just glad the games are watchable. I see fresh effort and that's really all I demand. I'm going to wait until the new year to make a decision to praise or rip on anyone. But in the mean time game on. Best game in the world.
- 6628

The posters who are critical are often the ones who actually had expectations, meaning they are actually the “positive” posters. It is fair to be critical as long as the criticism is fair. It is infinitely fair to expect an NHL hockey team to be able to maintain a one goal lead, with a PP, for a series of seconds. I, for one, predicted that the Hawks would make the play-offs and would do so easily this year. That doesn’t mean I, or other posters, can’t be critical from game to game.

Fortin reminds me of another Hino. Keep the second line together and let Saad figure it out.
- SoftServe

Wasn't Hino productive with Toews?
I honestly have no clue what is wrong with Saad. Bad puck luck to the max.

Time to get Davidson in and Ruuta out. When other teams are driving the net in desperation situations, you can't go with soft defenders.

I'm a bit late and haven't had a chance to go through the pages here, so forgive if there are any repeats...

Is Rutta dealing with something we don't know about? I don't remember him being this slow before. He's even losing the icing footraces.

This will be a different season if Toews keeps this up. I havne't seen him like this in a long time. What stood out to me was how he skated through the check to feed ADB for the first goal. As someone said earlier, he doesn't make that play last year.

Can Saad buy a goal? The one that squirted through the paint and Dubnyk got barely enough of with his paddle, I can't imagine what he's thinking after that. Kane appears to be trying pretty hard to set him up for something, which is what a good teammate is supposed to do.

I thought Ward had a great game last night. That was a nonstop barrage he faced. That said, if Crawford comes back and gets to 100% of his old self, this team is going start winning these games in regulation instead of always going to OT.

The D is still short a few guys. What's the timetable on Murphy and Forsling? I'd have to think they would be better than the current 5 and 6 D.

Even if the team doesn't go far this year, I finally feel some hope for future seasons. Last year I wasn't feeling that, and was envisioning the slow and unavoidable downward spiral.

Edit: I should add that this third line is a mess. There seems to be no real definition to this line, other than purgatory. I don't know what the answer is here.

100% this. Great post.

Also, just to add, while not all Rutta's issues seem to be mobility, he just doesn't seem like the same guy he was 12 months ago when he arrived with the team. He did have a groin injury in the preseason. I don't know if he is just physically battling something and it is distracting him but he just seems to have taken a big step backwards.

Agree. The season is not even 10 games in. There are some positives and negatives so far but the biggest positive for me is a resurgent Toews.

If that continues, to me it means the window has not been slammed shut. But like you said, maybe let things play out a bit before making sweeping and definitive declarations.

- HawkintheD

MEH!! Lots of posters here can determine the value of a player, coach or GM based on one shift! Why on earth does anyone need more time than one shift, two at most, to assess the skill, ability and value of a player?

Generally prices drop as you get closer to the game date. If you’re going to be in the 100 level you want to be about 9 or 10 rows up.

If it was me I’d go with the 200 level if you can get tickets in the first five rows.

As far as Vivid goes, if you register and start an order and don’t finish it and sign out, there’s a good chance they’ll email you a discount code. They usually email you and say you didn’t finish your order first followed by another email with a discount code.

Honestly surprised no one has brought up the fact that Kane turned over the puck trying to stickhandle too much in the final minute instead of passing off to Joki to cycle the puck around and keep possession while Dub had lost his stick and was trying to get off to get it to 5 on 5. Once Kane lost the puck and Dub got off the Wild controlled the puck and got the GTG

I think that is what you get with Kane sometimes, with the high risk high reward plays he makes at times, but what I had a problem with was Kane being out there for that PP. I thought he was tired still after his last shift (maybe I'm wrong) he looked kind of out of gas for that PP. I think he had just previously been out there for a shift where they were defending in their zone.

Reddit NHL streams provide better quality than NHL.tv so I didn’t buy the package this year.
