Hope Patrick is ok, def could see his head whiplash against the glass a little bit. Really sucks, hope it was more precautionary to take him out.

I could mouth out a few Hak f-bombs last night. Good to see him show some emotion, but so funny to watch him reel it back in. Like a deer in the headlights kind of look. I'm still peeved about some of his decisions from the opener.

Jori just looks... better. A little quicker, stronger maybe? Did he get a skating coach over the summer? He's sticking up for teammates, winning puck battles. Rooting for him to keep it up.

Laughton can bring it. Always a fan, glad to see him getting rewarded. Hope it keeps coming, along with his ice time.

Jake the Snake.

Yeah. Not sure what they will do down the middle. i guess first we have to see how long Patrick is out.

Totally agree with Weal. I would waive him and bring up Aube-Kubel or Twarynski or even Bardreau. When Weise got a chance at least he showed. I didn't see a thing from Weal. i know he only got one game but sometimes that all you get to make an impression.

None of those players can play center. Weal can.

Got it. Forgot it had that last deflection.
- J35Bacher

That wasn't a deflection. Tkachuk definitely kicked it.

Yes it was sanheim. I swear to all that's holy I will refuse to watch another game this year with this coach if he sits sanheim for that mistake. let the kids go and learn the freakin game without constantly looking over their back with some stupid mistake. I as a fan expect them to make mistakes. Its how they respond afterwards is what I look for.
- jmdodgeser4

False narrative. This coach does not tend to sit players for one mistake. Repeated mistakes over and over is a different story.

Only one more year after this one. Should have traded him this offseason when we had the chance. I am assuming we had this chance, even eating some salary I would have pulled that trigger.
- jmdodgeser4

Mistake. They still need MacDonald. He rushed back from injury. He will get better.

I would seriously consider buying out both amac and weise this off season. cap it is minimal.

Not a good decision.

On the first goal....I was pretty sure there was a kicking motion. Did anyone else seem to think so? I didn't think it was as close as some where saying. I see his leg move forward so the puck goes straight to net.
- J35Bacher

Looked like a kicking motion on both Ottawa skates it hit on the way to the back of the net. Less obvious off of Tkachuk's skate though.

Bardreau can play center.

I just don't want Weal playing. And I wasn't saying Aube-Kubel or Twarnyski are center options. More options if you have to move someone to center like Giroux, Laughton or maybe even Raffl

-AMac has been poor to very poor. I don't think it is just injury related, and think last year was more of an anomaly than this year will be, but we will see.

- YuenglingJagr

This is not accurate. MacDonald has been a solid player for the overwhelming majority of his Flyers career. More than just last season. He's obviously been affected by the injury and missed camp time.

Once it deflects off the other player, it doesn't matter.

Of Andrew MacDonald's almost 300 games in the Flyers organization, he spent about 50 of those games in the AHL.

So, right off the bat, before even quoting fancy stats, your assertion that he has been a "solid player for the overwhelming majority of his Flyers career" probably should be walked back a few blocks.

I disagree. That was a salary cap move and a mistake. Your analysis is incomplete. MacDonald was a better player then, during and still now than Manning ever was or will be

That goal actually got kicked twice on the way to the back of the net and no, I don't think it should have counted. Like, literally, that was a better soccer goal than a hockey goal.

He clearly kicked it in, but whatever.

- johndewar

The 2nd player directed it in without a kicking motion. Clearly a good goal which is why the review was so short.

It wasn't a salary cap move. They could have carried MacDonald on the roster but chose to promote Manning instead.

It's interesting to see the long list of dmen the Flyers preferred to Andrew MacDonald in 15-16 right up until MDZ got hurt. Eventually MacDonald will go the way of Schultz.

The cap was definitely part of it. Otherwise they could've kept MacDonald as a 7th.

Apologies in advance for using fancy stats, but since I am not using them to scapegoat anyone in specific maybe they won't be cast off so quickly.

@travisyost

So it feels like the Flyers have been utterly lost in the defensive zone. I looked at some of the worst stretches by expected goals (@CorsicaHockey) and, well, wow.

Worst EV xGA/60, any four-game stretch:

CAR 12/2011: 4.12
PHI 10/2018: 4.07
T.B 10/2011: 3.91
CAR 12/2011: 3.89

Obviously some sample size issues, but to say that doesn't match the eye test would be incorrect. They're giving up way too many good chances.

They didn't even want McDonald as the #8, and the salary cap had nothing to do with it. If the salary cap was the reason, they would have promoted MacDonald when Streit got hurt in November or when Vinny and LSchenn were traded in January.
