Someone's gotta go is what I'm trying to say and Hawks need another forward that can score imo. That third line isn't going to cut it. - SoftServe
Not worried about scoring, the Hawks seem to be have that’s under control.
When Forsling and Murphy come back Davidson is the first logical choice to go. The next would be either Rutta or Manning. I suspect it would be Rutta, a team will part with a mid-round pick for Rutta as insurance. I’m not a fan of Manning yet, but I’ve seen enough from Rutta to know I’d rather give Manning a shot.
Keith - Jokiharju
Forsling - Murphy
Gustafsson - Seabrook
Manning
Edit: that being said, the third line needs to be better. Kampf should be on the fourth line with Kruger and Kunitz needs to be the 13th forward. Like I said before, hopefully a couple Ice Piglets step up and earn a shot.

Rutta and Manning more or less same age and salary. Gotta make a decision as to who you think has more upside. Manning signed for 2 years, Rutta for just one. Take what you can get for either of them.

Manning sticks up for his team, I appreciate that a little bit more, even if he can't fight worth a damn.
When it comes to scoring, 19 and 88 have that down to a science. |

Manning has grown on me in three games after a forgettable preseason. I admire the fact he doesn't try to be flashly and seems willing to make the adjustments needed and advised to him. He's not out there to score points, he's not out there to lay big hits, he's there to stay in the lineup and help the team win |

While not stellar Manning should stick around as the #7 d-man over Davidson and Rutta. Not including Manning the Hawks have only four d-men signing next season. Even if all goes to plan and Boqvist makes the team next year there would still be 2 openings. One filled by Manning and the other by Forsling (assuming he is re-signed).

Gustafsson - Seabrook
Murphy - Boqvist

Rutta - yes. But I don’t see the point in dealing Gus unless the return is really good. |

Why would Gus be dealt? He's already amassing more responsibility earlier on this year than he ever did at any point last season. If he continues to see top-4 minutes, he'll absolutely have a 35+ point campaign in what will hopefully be his first full season in the league.
The 'Hawks need to develop their own young d-men already with the team and not just wait on an influx of youth to matriculate through the system and pray that they perform immediately.
If Gus and Joker continue to play important roles, and one of Murphy/Forsling step up this season, the foundation for what their defense will look like moving forward will be HUGE. That way we can wait on the likes of Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell, etc. to continue to slowly develop and not be forced into the lineup in the [near] future. |

I'm not saying I don't like Gus, I do, he just didn't seem like a player that would be in a Hawk sweater much longer to me. Bouncing to different pairs just seems like the beginning sign of not sticking with the team. I think he needs to play with Seabs. |

What does he do well anymore since his concussion?
He kills plays because he fumbles passes.
He doesn't skate well, average at best.
He doesn't jump into the play or create offensive opportunities.
He isn't a stalwart in his own end.
His gap is poor and he backs off players with speed.
He doesnt read plays well until it's too late and the puck is behind him.
He isn't physical and doesn't clear the crease.
He doesn't shoot the puck or have a big shot. - Stan_Bowman
Are you describing Ruuta, or Keith?? |

Is it me or is it refreshing to see a DMan consistently hit the net with a point shot. Thanks 28!!! |

That’s why he needs to be on the #1 PP unit. |

#28 needs to stay.
Keith needs to be removed from the PP unit.
Crawford coming back will be a breath of fresh air; in the meantime, Forsberg needs to be playing.
More Hayden in the lineup.
Final thing, three games in..a lot can be said, both good and bad about this team...best part has been effort. Much better than last year already. |

I agree with everything. Just off of your last sentence, we were already collapsing by the third game, right around the time we played Tor last year. |

As long as we're projecting a "if everything goes as well as can be" 2019/20 defensive lineup:
Keith-Jokiharju
Forsling-Boqvist
Beaudin-Mitchell

Keith has good gap. Keith jumps in to the play. Keith has good offensive instincts outside of hitting the net. Keith has above average skating, still. Keith has amazing hockey awareness still despite his age. Not sure how the description is even worth comparing |

Stan should trade Saad asap. What a waste of salary and roster spot. |
