A few other observations from the Hogs season opener:

Hillman and Gilbert did not dress.

Dahlstrom was the most poised and consistent blueliner which is to be expected as he's in his 3rd season in Rockford.

Carlsson showed glimpses of being Hjalmarsson like. Shows physicality and doing whatever it takes to defend.

Tuulola was the sloppiest of the starting D but not horrible.

Nilsson played 1st line with Sikura and Highmore. Like Noel, Nilsson has sandpaper to his game.

I might be in the minority, but I don't really fear the Leafs at this point. They added Tavares, sure...but they lost some overall depth and their D group isn't as solid as some other "contending teams". Maybe they will be better than last year, but I'll believe it when I see it. Until they sign Nylander, I'm expecting them to take a step back overall, when added with the forward subtractions.

I think right now on LW they have

Marleau who is 39. (Age is going to be a factor for him at some point which might be soon.)
Zach Hyman (kind of on the cusp of being a top 6 winger, but age 26 years old....to me his points are more about who he played with.)
Josh Leivo (bottom 6 guy)
Andreas Johnsson (his NHL career is only 10 games old)

On the right, they currently have Ennis in the top 6 (Yuck) and their bottom 6 RW don't inspire much to me. If they sign Nylander and added another winger, then I'd say watch out. That is just my thoughts anyway. Not saying they will be a bad team, but I don't know they will be as good as Toronto media hopes.

You bet.

I got the AHLTV single team package for all Hogs games. Promise I won't do these post games after every game. Probably every so often after seeing trends over a larger sample size.

Sure man. Also if you see something worth reporting please do. We may need to rely on a Hog or two at some point this year, maybe soon.

I am with Justin Lowe on being down that Dylan Sikura didn't step it up to take a spot. I think we need his offensive skill along the bottom 6. but he didn't really do anything to earn a spot in pre-season.

We'll see how the Hawks fair this evening in St. Louis...

The Blues actually added center depth in the offseason.

Toews was noticeable the other night. Seems to be a bit faster than we've seen in the past couple seasons. Maybe he actually ate a sandwich in the offseason. Let's
hope for the best.

Which Cam Ward tonight - the one that started the game the other night 3 goals on 10 shots or the one that finished better.

I think the Blues will rebound after losing at home to the Jets the other night to open the season. Should be a tough roadie for the Hawks before the home opener tomorrow against the Leafs.

Justin. Tell us all about a typical Thanksgiving at the Lowe family. What's on the menu and TV?
- glennjpawlak22

I'm from a small town in southern Ontario so I'm at my parents log cabin right now (with a baby attached to me).

Usually it's turkey and standard potatoes and stuffing, potluck style with my large extended family.

It always ends in sports on the TV and catching up with cousins over drinks.

Thanks AEL.

I will have thoughts as well with the games I can sneak in.

I have some good insight from those who watch live so I always have my pulse on the 'Hogs.

Happy Thanksgiving Justin and family . Well this was how I thought the goaltending would shake out ,more masterminding buy the king Q . Throw Forsberg to the lions on his 1st start at the home opener ,after not playing for over a week ,Great move . Might as well destroy any confidence the kid got after his last pre season game ..

Hope the kid stands on his head ,he will have to against the leafs .. If not the home crowd will be ready to tar and feather the kid by the 2nd period .. Just stupid Q ..Time for a change

Really? You can't protect athletes, he needs to step up and play goalie to the best of his ability and want this challenge. This whole annointing the Leafs as some juggernaut is a joke very good team but how many top 4 dmen do they have? Pretty much as many as tvwe Hawks have. Based on some you they shouldn't even show up

quit kissing leaf ass Justin. They have 3 bloggers on here already if you include Tanner and probably a TON more in the closet on here. Lets tone it down a bit. I live in Hamilton and the parade route is being planned as we speak for the leafs. They have proven NOTHING! Hawks take em Sunday at the home opener. Tonight will be very tough but the hawks bounce back very nicely after a loss. In past years anyway.
Ill take a loss tonight and a win tomorrow on thanksgiving day please. Especially since ill be at my moms with about 10 leaf fans talking about how great they are. Hopefully I don't yak up my Pumpkin Pie. GO HAWKS!!! EFF THE LAFFS

- Thoroldbhawks

Well you're a Hawks fan in Hamilton... so your hatred for the Leafs makes sense.

I've worked in the sports industry in Toronto forna decade (and have friends working for the Leafs) and live up the road from you... yes the sports talk is a little much.

While the Leafs have yet to prove anything, there's no denying that they have a great team.

I'm no closet fan, I could care less how they do this year. What I am, however, is a realist and I know hockey. They have so many weapons up front they should be able to just outscore teams on most nights.

Yes, their defence is skeptical and they need to prove that they can perform in the playoffs but they have a good shot at a cup run if they put it together at the right time.

Forsberg has a lot to prove as well. I'm excited to see him get the chance to reset from last year.

I personally think he's a good goalie... just isn't the strongest mentally.

Is Noel playing center or wing? He's the kind of player the hawks need on their lower line. Scrappy and tenacious. Players like him force his own team to come together like Shaw did and like Hartman should have.

Wing. Knott was center on their line. Agree, a player like Noel would be a welcome addition to the Hawks similar to Shaw as you pointed out.

Relatively though Shaw has more skill and versatility to play up and down the forward lines.

Barratt at Penn State may prove similar too.

As far as D goes very true but if we are comparing Pitt and Wash D 6dmen during their cup wins i believe are far superior than what the Leafs have for now. Maybe they'll take a step i don't know but one thing to me is for sure anyone in the NHL can win any night of the year, couple of calls and bounces the Blackhawks way is all it takes.
