Is Crawford going on LTIR or anything to start the season? Because if not, he would have to take a spot on the roster, so don't 2 forwards need to be reassigned?

Nevermind, I guess I miscounted. There are only 14 forwards on the roster currently unless the Hawks site is missing someone, and I can't think of anyone.

Does IR free up a roster spot? If it does, does anyone need to be sent down/reassigned?

The site finally has Crawford listed as IR, but still have Murphy and Forsling on the active roster.

Chicago has signed D Brandon Davidson to a 1yr, $650,000 contract. He was at camp on a PTO
- mrpaulish

Davidson has some interesting info in his backstory. Was Captain of Regina Pats and overcame testicular cancer. Gotta think after that a PTO is nothing.

Hopeful prediction for this season:
The Hawks stick around the playoff picture on the outside looking in until January. Crawford isn't ready til November, and when he comes back he can't save us from the pitiful defense. The team is ten points out by the trade deadline, and there are far too many teams between us and the last wildcard spot.

The Hawks trade Anisimov for a 2nd rounder and prospect.
The Hawks trade Murphy for a conditional 2nd that turns into a 1st if that team wins the Cup.
The Hawks trade Brandon Manning for a conditional 6th rounder.

Schmaltz resigns for $5x5. Jokiharju plays 60 games for the Hawks and establishes himself as an everyday player. Boqvist does well in London and puts on 10 pounds of muscle. Multiple college prospects in our system join the team for the last handful of games and show a lot of promise. Sikura plays 72 games and puts up 40 points.

Quenneville and Bowman both mutually agree to leave the team.

is Schmaltz realistically a Cup winning team C1 or C2? i dont see it. Cat yes. Schmaltz no
- glennjpawlak22

He's def a solid 2C option. 50 points from that spot is quality. Great skater, plays the neutral zone well. I'd rather see him between Kane and Saad than AA there.

If we end up needing a C to play the wing, I’d rather it was AA playing out of position so that the the development of the younger players is not stifled.

I can't find a gif or image of Sheriff Buford T. Justice saying, "Smartallic." Just know that the sentiment is there.

I would be singing Stan's praises if he signs Schmaltz to that contract! I'm with you in that I'd like to see him play that well (or better) for another year, but if matches or improves upon last year's success, he'll be signing for $6M or more.
I don't see him regressing to the point where $5M is an overpay.

Lets table this until Feb 1, that should give us a good enough sample size to determine if he is $6x6, $5x5 or $4x4 or trade bait

Honestly, I don't get why so many are down on Rutta. Last year was his first in NA and often he was a victim of Forsling not being NHL ready when they were partnered.

He was pretty solid vs Detroit in his preseason debut. He was the one Dman who didn't get scored against in the game and the Wings weren't credited with any scoring chances while he was on the ice and he didn't have any giveaways.

I think he is going to play with Gus tonight, and I won't be surprised one bit if they are the strongest pair on the ice for the Hawks. Gus has looked good in those couple games he played.

I think Rutta is gonna end up taking more of the harder minutes this year.

Just curious... are there any players that will likely be placed on waivers in the next week that the Hawks should target?

Rutta did have a bad game, but so did a lot of hawks. I'm not going to write him off. A lot of his problem was Forsling, who is still a rookie. On top of that, he was injured and didn't come back in tip top shape.
