when I first saw it I kind of figured it was just throwing some bait out there to see if someone gets rid of the contract for them, but he would stick around and stay with the team. Seeing the reactions makes me think they actually do plan on demoting him.

He clears and will be traded for another bad contract probably with less term but more of a cap hit

Stone is just miffed because now he'll have to get his decorative wooden Christmas candle holders elsewhere, like Michaels and paint them himself.

I always liked little Z but this team is about getting younger.

And calling Dorion out on this one is a bit weak....every team in the league signs these deals.

Matt Duchene on Zack Smith being placed on waivers “I’ll be honest, it’s a kick in the balls for us."

I don't think this has anything to do with the player as much as he is over paid.

My worry is that for this rebuild they are going to need two main guys long term and that's Duchene and Stone.

What incentive other than young talent is there for them to stay?

I don't know how they get either of them to stay. They will both be wined and dined next summer. Duchene is definitely gone - he's obviously not super happy to be in Ottawa and hasn't been there very long so he has no real emotional ties to the place. Stone, being where he's at in his career could easily go be a top six guy on a contending team with much better management and a better locker room.

People keep wanting outcomes to be different than Melnyk's guideline where he said up to 16 new faces in lineup by this time next year (10 new faces by opening night this year).

Not a fan of Melnyk but people make a mistake by not listening to what he is saying.

This is a comprehensive rebuild with a complete tear down as part of the bottoming out process.

Sens are a development team for the next three years. They have slashed player budgets. It will make the financials look incredibly attractive for the sale of the team.

Resigning Stone or Duchene to long term deals makes no sense at this time.

Fans need to decide to enjoy the rebuild and the growth of the kids. If not, you are going to be very unhappy for the next few years.

Zack Smith will clear waivers and be traded for Michael Stone.

You heard it here first.

Watching the exhibition play the kids look pretty good. Lots of speed. Except for Stone and Duchene most of the vets look like they are struggling to keep up.

June 2019 is first opportunity to buy out Smith. Will save $2.5m actual dollars.
