Mike Smith is overrated. Everytime a goal goes in he points at the D |

I hope the flames do well this season. Make a real push.
Force the loser Toronto media to cover the team. |

I think it will be sorted. Smith was pretty much the team MVP last year.
Just can't wait for the regular season to start! |

That Alan Quine guy was absolutely awful last night, noticeably bad. So were Klimchuk, Hathaway (even though Klimchuk tied up the game, it was a lucky goal). I actually didn't mind Peluso or Lomberg. Ryan and Jankowski were not very good either. Lindholm was pretty average too.

*New blog--whoops--but since it's related to goaltending...
Agree. I like what we've seen so far. Unfortunately he's waiver excempt making it easier to send him down. They're not going to risk losing Rittich, we all know how the 3 goalie roster works out.
- K-man25
I'd be okay with that. I think Gillies has the better shot at becoming a starter out of he and Rittich. Give him all the starts in Stockton and let's see what he has.
If he's tearing it up down there & Rittich isn't cutting it then you can bring him up and hope that he plays with some confidence & consistency.
If they're both poopting the bed then I'm calling Toronto about one of there goalies. Pickard would be a good fit, I think he still has the potential to be a starter.
Maybe we end up getting 2 birds stoned and find our future starter and a serviceable backup |

The Flames are dangerous up front with good D but as long as Smith is back there I don’t see them as better than 4th in Div. |

Here's my ranking of our bottom 5 (haven't seen enough of the top 4 yet).
Rass
Valimaki
Stone
Kylington
Kulak
Valimaki has too much speed & skill for us to leave him in the minors. He sold me after a play he made in the 3rd.
He joined the rush--got open & got a good shot off---circled back to our end to cover the breaking winger---noticed that the opposing team flubbed the clearing attempt---decided he had a play on the puck---went from the red line to inside their blue line so quickly & efficiently I was amazed--he easily won the battle for the puck and kept the attack alive.
Trade Stone for what we can get, we don't need the distraction or the cap hit. |

I thought Jankowski was noticeable last night when he was out there. I hope he gets some skill on the wings for his line. I would like to see Bennett on the left wing and Austin Czarnik on the right.
I hope we get to see Mangiapane, Ryan, Frolik and Dube, Ryan, Frolik. |

I'm very curious to see what happens with him. If his numbers fall apart, will that be blamed on Smith getting older or will it fall on Peters' system and it's seeming devouring of goaltenders?
Because yeah, it's only preseason, so it's a fool's errand trying to read anything into it, but the Canes D and Goalies look wholly different than last season. |

The NHL doesn't use workhorse #1 goalies anymore. Only 7 goalies played more than 60 games last year, and one of them is the same age as Smith. Smith is more than capable of playing 60 games, and Rittich is more than a capable backup. |

So what you’re saying is that a 36 year old is one of the select few goalies who can handle a 60 game workload + playoffs?
Alright then |
