I thought Mannings contract is 2 years at 2.25 and not 2 years at 4.5. that and wards contract are really head scratching.

Boqvist looks like he will be a really good player, but in the pre-season so far I'm not sure his consistency and physical maturity is there yet.

He makes good plays, but he also rushes a lot of passes which don't always leave the zone. I think his self-assessment of 2-3 years is accurate. I do like him more than most of our d. Rutta, I thought, looked rough tonight

Notable lower body injuries this pre-season: Kucherov (TB), Jones (CBJ), Galchenyuk (AZ). Galchenyuk already expected to not be ready for season opener.

Vegas sign Theodore to 7-year, $36.4M contract.

-Keith and Seabrook defensively...yikes. Keith burned wide by AA on the 15 second goal, egregious TO by Seabrook on the soft D-D pass, and Keith spin move turnover for Larkin’s goal.

-Ward...is anyone surprised? He’s been a sieve for 5 years.

-Toews skated much better than last year and overall looked like a top line center opposed to the 3rd line grinder he looked like last year.

-Schmaltz and Kane should be playing with 15 in the middle, they have great chemistry.

-Boquist made nice plays with the puck, especially on the PP where his skill and instincts in the o-zone are top notch. But, he was outmuscled often to lose the puck, most blatantly on Helm’s goal off Mantha rebound. I still think he’s good enough to get the 9 game tryout, same with Jokiharju.

- Has anyone seen Brandon Saad create a scoring chance? Thank goodness for that “cost control”, am I right??

-also I think Highmore and Kampf are both better than Kruger.

Hopefully they can keep scoring at a high level bc they’re gunna be pulling the puck out of their own net a lot this year.

Fun game to watch! I’ll be at the Avs game Friday my boss has 100 level season tickets

It will only be 3 goalies until Crawford returns, but that might not be until Nov/Dec.

Forsberg will get his shot at redemption though and there are some that think he could steal some games away from Ward.

Too small! Trade him for a big bruiser. Why on earth did Blowman choose a small pip squeak yet again? Who needs skill? Who needs speed? This is a man's game, a defenceman should be a minimum of 6'2" 210 and ideally bigger. Show me one defenceman who didn't hit and fight who ever amounted to anything? The Hawks need players that can hit, they need players that can fight, they need redass!!

Wowsa 8 goals last night for the Wings...welcome to Cam Ward's Lifetime special -"The Marty Turco" years...another stellar move by Stan bringing the Camster in. Good seats still available. Wait I think McD just issued another presser that Corey will be ready for opening night.

Q's strategy to put 2 and 7 together - great move there as well. Long season ahead.

Toews looks good! That top line looked solid! Seabrook and Keith should be split up. Rutta is not good. I would take both kids over Rutta, and keep one of Manning or Davidson. The third line was not good. Saad has not been good. I would try that third line experiment with Sikura opposite of Saad for a game and see where that goes, otherwise he ends up back on the second line and Schmaltz goes back to center. Kunitz needs to be on the fourth line or not dresssed at all. Delia and Forsberg gives us a better chance to stay afloat until Crawford returns imo.

Think a lot of us new Ward has not been good for years, Ward's 3 and Manning's 2.25 m
You would think the Hawks could have picked up and good player for 5.25 m
Keep Boq in junior s and Joker in minors don't waste a year of their cheap contracts on what's going to be a rough year whether they are on the team or not.

If they do a poor job of it, was it worth doing? You wouldn't praise a goalie that can't stop a puck even if he tried his hardest.
- L_B_R

Nope, that’s why spreading out Martinsen and Hayden on the 3rd and 4th lines makes sense. This team needs some iota of a physical presence!

Add in the Kunitz 1M and that is 6.25M for 3 guys who may not even be in the lineup a couple of months down the road. OUCH!
At least 2 of those contracts expire by next year.

This!!

The team needs redass! Enough of the speed and skill already! I'm tired of the Hawks being pushed around and always being outhit. It's time for the Hawks to get tough. Make Hawks Tough Again!!

I think people make way too much of preseason. It's preseason. These guys are getting their bodies ready, their minds ready, and with the exception of people vying for roster spots - are not/should not be going at 100%.

I'm not saying this team is going to be any better than it appears to be now but I am saying hold judgment until the season is really going.

Seriously though, I hate Rutta in the top 4 more than I hate Manning being on this team as a 5,6 d man.

With all due respect, the clutch N' grab and dead-puck era is gone and will NOT be coming back. It is the mistakes and turnovers that are magnified and the puck finds itself in the back of the Hawks net. It called better puck management and WHEN you do this well, it can lead to dangerous scoring chances and goals. Opposing teams gets tired of chasing and therefore lose coverage. It goes without saying that when you have the puck, you don't have to hit. Yes, you need to win puck/board battles and also importantly net front presence battles.

At this point - no real cap issues right now - and as you say, two of those contracts expire after this year - who cares how much of Rocky's money they get.

Question is - can they help the team this year - looking a bit questionable right now, but let's see how the early season goes.

as LBR pointed out every mistake found the back if the net...BTW...i will ask again: did saad play tonight?

kane and toews looked very good...

- bogiedoc

Q seemed to be using the Kunitz-Kampf-Saad line as a checking line - like Bolland, thrown out against higher lines when possible vs focusing on zone. I think Kampf-Saad had some good shifts - they contained Athanasiou when on the ice with him pretty well and the one goal against with him was on them - but nothing much offensively for sure. Kunitz was slower last night than in games before and Idk if it was because he was having to do more work than usual or what.
