Some here will be happy: Manning defended Highmore - did it after a clean clean but hard hit and got his ass handed to him, though.

Overall, they're actually controlling the puck/pace to a larger degree and they're limiting chances against, which is a plus. But when they make a mistake, it's always a big one - bad turnover, bad pinch, bad read, etc - and it results in a goal against almost every time. I feel like the mistakes wouldn't be as glaring if the goaltending could stop a beach ball but they're still things that they need to clean up.

Very true. Been the issue since Crow went down and Ward isn't near the solution.

Yep, it wasn't a dirty hit. May have been a tad late however. It was a nothing play, but at least Eddie O went "Vandymeer" on us and extolled the virtues of tough guys.

I am happy someone stood up, but at the same time, they can't find a decent defenseman that can actually throw a punch to do so?

the fact he "stood up" means nothing anymore. it detered no one and gave the Hawks no momentum. useless exercise. what bothers me isn't fighting crap, but sloppy, bad hockey.

And I'm glad he stood up for his teammate just because, not because it was a clean hit. I would like to see it done on dirty hits, like Malkin taking out Crawford. I was just happy someone actually did their job if that is what they were brought in for, but did it poorly

These 2 teams are probably #1 and #2 in the entire NHL when it comes to worst combined defense/goaltending. No surprise there’s been a combined 14 goals.

Exactly. Be a good hockey player first and then worry about the other poop later. I had no issue back when Buff or Ladd or Shaw or whoever would stand up for teammates because they could play hockey first and foremost.

If they do a poor job of it, was it worth doing? You wouldn't praise a goalie that can't stop a puck even if he tried his hardest.

It does mean something. That play, not so much. Especially when you sucked in a fight. Don't tell me when you played hockey, you delivered a good check playing a rough team, you didn't have to keep your head up and aware even more because of the possible retaliation. To say it means nothing, is a complete lie

My problem with Manning or Ward isn't this one game - I try not to make decisions on single game samples, especially meaningless pre-season games - but on the fact that he's always been a poor defender and he's poopty fighter.

No, I'm saying manning wasn't worth bringing in. He isn't a good defenseman and doesn't have the physical aspect they supposedly brought him in for

Maybe I didn't explain it how I meant to. I Just have seen no purpose for him as of yet. Makes me understand why the Flyers fans enjoyed him being gone. It is just preseason though. Just thought, maybe he was brought in to protect his teammates, but he did an absolute terrible job at that, other than stepping up, which was mostly useless because it was an extremely clean shot.

Nah, it mean's something to his teammates. It is the kind of thing that builds the team up.

kunitz Manning and ward were bad last year and are only a year older. Why does Q insist on putting out guys that like? Way better to put hayden or Kampf who are just as physical but can actually play at a NHL pace. Why does Eddie O talk about how much manning and kunitz bring? they put a AVG team on the PK all the time. when the league is getting faster they are getting slower.

I had to listen to the last ten minutes over the radio. I know nothing about the hit, but it sounded like Manning lost. It was nice to hear him stick up for Highmore, anyways. I appreciate that he has his guys' backs, even if he can't fight.

AA-Mantha-Vanek had our numbers. I always liked Vanek and wanted him in an Indianhead sweater.

Keith-Seabs pairing, I really don't want to see them together again. They had the offense, but the defense definitely wasn't there.

Highmore was good, Fortin (Fortaine to the radio guys) was good, Kahun was good early, Debrincat looked strong. Kampf wasn't as noticeable, unless you are Pat Foley and thought he had the puck on every play. Boq looked great. Kane is Kane. Toews, Anisimov, and Seabs are definitely showing what a hard working summer will do for your game. They looked like different players, players of old that I missed.

There were a lot of bads in this football score of a game, but the kids came to play and are making decisions tough. They might not fight, but they are skilled. I hope they continue to push for the opening line-up. Come on kids, prove me wrong, you guys are the only brightside that I can see.

Hit was nice. clean, big hit. I thought Toews looked decent in contrast to your opinion. Maybe that is just me praying for a bounce back season. Goaltending was nothing, defense was meh. There are some bright spots for the future, being further off than this season, but this season is going to be rough I feel.

Not a great game, but it is preseason. Some guys didn't look 100% into it yet. Kane wasn't bad, but to me, not yet going 100%. Keith looks like he hasn't played a real game for a few months...I hope Ward can get going, because really he was the biggest issue in that game getting out of hand on the score sheet. I think Forsberg might just claim the net from Ward until Crawford comes back.

The positive is the Powerplay got some reps and was decent for the most part. They definitely were looking to create downlow plays with Toews and it wasn't bad. I have to think that 4th line Ejdsell - Highmore - Fortin was looking at probably their last audition when the night started, I'm wondering if any will get another game. My guess is Ejdsell will be cut, Fortin has a chance, but might be AHL bound tomorrow. Highmore to me, maybe earned another game, but I wouldn't be surprised if all three are send down.

After his playoff performance, I was expecting a lot more out of Ejdsell and he has just looked like a cone out there for the most part from what I have seen (haven't seen all the preseason games unfortunately).
