Yeah, maybe the pp is bad because they are over working them in practice. They have nothing left for the game. |

I haven't been on the wagon of firing Bowman, but signing Manning to a 2 year deal for $4 mil irritates me because he isn't learning from mistakes, he's making the same ones over and over, just can't pay good money to a non NHL player, now we have 2, Manning and Murphy - BetweenTheDots
Cmon man.....give Stan a break. At least he gave us 2 months of Kimmo Timonnen for ONLY 2 2nd round draft choices.....and therefore that 3rd CUP.
Great trade SB. Headshaking revisionist history.....sorry.

Justin, we're you able to watch tonight? Did anyone catch your eye or did Peppa Pig rule the tube tonight? |

Hey gang - had my own fantasy hockey draft tonight so didn't catch the game while it was on but rewatched most just now.
It wasn't pretty. Typical preseason hockey and a lot of kinks to work out.
I liked Kampf, Luke Johnson, Entwhistle and Debrincat tonight.
Boqvist had some nice flashes and ot was just reported that he's not heading to London yet (their season starts tomorrow). While I don't think he will make the team it appears they are really pleased with him so far.
I will have a blog up tomorrow am.

Ummm im okay with that move, he was trying to help his teams chances in the playoffs, go ask fans like the Habs, Preds and others who have or had GMs who wouldn't make moves to help their SC chances. You think the Bolts fans are happy they have a team with friendly contacts but no SC to show for it, I'm thinking probably not. Whoever in that gm office thinks it was a good idea to trade for Murphy and now sign Manning are probably the same people and have made the same mistake. |

Just the first preseason game for most of these guys so not reading too much into it ... but I saw some good and some not so good. Going line by line:
Kunitz - not impressed - barely OK
Toews - pretty good
DeBrincat - very good
Saad - OK but struggled with puck control a bit
Schmaltz - pretty good
Kane - very good
Schroeder - AHL player
Entwistle - pretty good but not close to NHL ready
Kampf - pretty good - best bottom-6 player on the ice tonight
T.Sikura - AHL player
Nilsson - AHL player
Johnson - if Kampf, Highmore and Johnson are battling for a roster spot - Johnson comes in 3rd.
Manning - barely OK
Boqvist - future star but not yet
Beaudin - didn't notice him much - is that good?
Carlsson - rough game not good
Tuololo - AHL player
Raddysh - AHL player
Forsberg - wasn't terrible
Lankinen - also wasn't terrible |

I use to look forward to preseason games. Seeing new comers and journeyman trying to impress. Tough guys getting a longer leash. But the first two hawks games have been like watching paint dry. A lot of open spots and not really a lot of fire. Kane Johnson and boqvist looked good. Johnson was the only physical player. Enstwhistle had a nice shot but I thought he was a power forward dindnt see that at all. Manning sucked kunitz looked old and slow. And Saad was like the Saad of last year. I don't know if I can watch a whole year of a bad non physical no fight team. The preseason sucks now. It looked like a conditioning drill tonight from both teams. The long haired d kid on Detroit looked solid though. |

I can't believe they offered Manning a contract. What happened to being able to evaluate talent or di they just look at the stats, i don't get it. - BetweenTheDots
I can't believe we are paying him 2.25M. The Philly fan pumping Manning's tires on this blog site must be related to Manning. |

I did not worry much after the previous game loss because we iced 3rd and 4th liners, but tonight was something else. We had our top lines playing against a poor team that did not ice all of its best players. Not good! |

I wonder if his hockey cards are completely blank on the back. Like Animal House, "Simpson has no grade point average." Manning has no hockey stats. |

Quenneville wouldn't rule out that Boqvist could even make the roster when the team breaks camp for the regular season.
"I'm not throwing that out of the realm of possibilities."
Imagine Boqvist and Jokiharju making the team. An 18 and 19 year old. That would be exciting! |

Disastrous. I like them, don't get me wrong, they just aren't ready. Good plays here and there isn't 82 games of consistency. They are a year or two away. I don't want to see both now.

Everyone is talking like this season is going to be disastrous anyways so who really cares? If they're both able to hold their own, why not allow them to grow and develop at the NHL level with guys like Keith and Seabrook? |

Are you actually being serious here ????
You're fine with SB trading 2 second round picks for Timmonen in 2016 when he had NOTHING in the tank and basically provided no help, just because Stan was trying to improve his team ?
And now you're upset that he traded for Murphy and Manning by also trying to improve the team ???
That makes no sense to me I'm sorry.
At least in the Murphy trade he got younger and cheaper, which was the intent because of his own salary cap hell he created. Manning ??? Well, that looks really bad right now too......however, Quenneville will probably say he played well. Lol.

I'm not throwing the season away, I just feel that throwing young guys into a difficult situation isn't the best for their developments. Not all kids learn to swim by throwing them into the middle of the ocean. Boqvist just took to American ice, why throw him to the dogs already? Just because we have holes on defense shouldn't mean they get plugged by just anyone. Keith and Seabs have put in their time as babysitters, wasn't good for either of them.
I understand your opinion, I know others share it, I respect it, just don't agree with it. If they make the team or not, it won't affect my viewing. I'm in it for the hawks, good or bad until I die. I'm not comfortable basing positions and seasons on ifs. |

I blame Schmaltz for being out of position. - I Am The Breadman
Interesting quotes from Kane in the post-game from Laz at The Athletic. Remembering that he and Schmaltz have already had a year together, he doesn't sound really confident that they are going to find that chemistry they'll need. Would love to know who he thinks, of the available options, should be his C, if not Schmaltz.
Re: being reunited with Saad: With Schmaltz — who is faster and far more offensively gifted than Shaw — between them, Kane is confident they can fall right back into that groove.
“Absolutely,” Kane said. “I think when you play with someone before and you’ve had success, you know how to recapture that a little bit easier than with someone who’s new to the team or new to the system or new to the way you play. Sometimes it’s nice to just go back and see what worked back then. But I think both of us working together, especially with his speed, the way he plays the game, the way he goes to the net, it can really be a good fit for the way me and Schmaltzy play.”
The line certainly won’t be hurting for speed. And with a year of adjusting to Schmaltz as his center, Kane loves his options.
“I’ve never really had that speed up the middle,” Kane said. “Throughout my career, I’ve played more of the east-west game with a winger, and now with (Schmaltz) pushing that middle of the ice with so much speed, you know how to play a little bit off that. If that ‘D’ wants to stand up on me, I can slip it through to (Schmaltz) with speed. If the ‘D’ wants to back off, that obviously gives me more time and space. We’ll see how it works. Schmaltzy’s a guy that I really think I can develop that chemistry with and hopefully create something special.”
In fact, Kane hopes the line can be just as productive as when he played with Artemi Panarin, even if it’s not quite as pretty — something Kane brought up unprompted.
“I know certain people liked to see the way me and Panarin played, but that’s just not the way it’s going to work with us two,” Kane said. “It’s going to be a different game. I might play similar to the way I play and he might do the same, but there’s going to be certain things that we’re just going to have to adjust a little bit to try to connect a little bit more. But I know he’s very motivated this year so hopefully we can hit the ground running.” |

Boquist and Jokiharju are already better than what I’ve seen from Manning and Davidson. Give them the 9 game tryout and then decide what to do.
Very impressed with Boquist in these 2 games and I hope he makes me eat my words. Kunitz is Sharp from last year except probably even more of a waste of space. |

Boqvist may have been good but for his long term development I still think it’s better for him to go to London. I’d like to see Jokiharju make the team. |
