To San Jose
Karlsson
Hoffman
Perron
Donaghey
2020 5th (Ottawa)

To Ottawa
Tierney
Boedker
DeMelo
Bergman
Norris
Balcers
2019/2020 1st (San Jose)
2019 2nd (Florida)
2020 6th (San Jose)
+ 2 conditional picks

I like how the 2019 2nd is Floridas pick (unofficially). That means San Jose used one of the assets attained from the Hoffman trade to land EK65. The 2018 4th and 5th round picks, that were part of the Hoffman to Florida trade, were eventually used to trade up into the 2018 draft to take Linus Karlsson 87th in the 3rd round.

So, we already know that Chabot and Ceci will likely be put into the top pairing role, which will be more than they can handle.

Is the team hoping that Demelo is more than he appears, and are they going to stick him in 2nd pairing? Or is he already there due to how bad the Sens D is>

I think the biggest assumption people are making is that Ottawa "COULDN'T" get any of those roster players (Hertl,Meier, etc)in a deal....I think the reality is something a little more disturbing. I don't think Dorion's mandate from Melnyk allowed him to target roster players like that. Hertl makes too much for Melnyk and Meier/Lebanc only have this season left on their ELC.

I literally think Norris was targeted because he will still play college hockey for a year or two and Balcers has 2 years left on his ELC.

There is no defending this deal, frankly if the Sens main mandate was prospects and picks there is no deal that should have been made without Merkley in the package.

Let's not kid ourselves, Melnyk is the GM of the Sens...Dorion has just become a facilitator. This team has been so poorly managed and yet somehow, some way, the Sens with this roster are only around 8M below the salary CAP.

It's absolutely pathetic.

Well, I've been saying for a very long time that PD should be fired, He is a very good scout but not a GM.and I will continue to say it. He is a horrible GM and that is brutal return for Karlsson.

I blame him for the horrible return, but I don't blame Karlsson leaving on him alone. I also Blame EM and I also blame Karlsson. Despite Karlsson saying he wanted to stay here, there is no proof of that at all and his fake tears in the news conference imo where a complete joke. I do not believe he wanted to stay at all.

This problem isn't on one person and in this case it's on those three.

However, I'm not the type to dwell on the past so, I guess from now we move on, support the loyal players who are here and want to be here. We hope for a new GM and new Owner.

As for EM, PD and Karlsson. They might as well be dead to me at this point.

The only reasoning I can think of is that Norris is good friends with Tkachuk so maybe they are bringing him in to make him happy.

It was the first thing doron said on team 1200.

Which is a pretty weird argument to make.

To Ottawa

Chris Tierney
Mikkel Boedker
Ryan Merkley
Rudolfs Balcers
SJ 1st
FLA 2nd

Melnyk does not care what we think. He has taken $40m off of the annual salary budget and he will strip out even more.

NO mistake was made. Melnyk did exactly what he wanted to do. WInning is not a goal or an option at this time. The sooner we are able to accept that none of these decisions are being influenced by hockey values the sooner we will come to accept the long term game.

Dorion is a good enough hockey man to know that this was not a hockey trade. Karlsson was traded for Brady Tkachuck's girl friend.

Make the assumption that Melnyk and Dorion did exactly what they intended to do. Now ask yourself, why would they do that?

I plan on enjoying watching the kids grow. Delighted to see Formenton is going to get a shot at playing with Duchene and Dzingle. Not sure how they will make out at both ends of the ice but they will certainly be fast.

Tkachuck skated with Smith and Stone.

It will certainly be interesting if the Sens start the season with a rookie on each line and two D rookies (Wolanin and Jaros) in the starting six.

Despising the owner and enjoying the team is something that I have been doing for a long time. I think the Sens are going to be a lot of fun this year. Cheer for the kids.

Go to bed and say your prayers and know one morning you will get up to hear that somebody has driven a stake through Melnyk's heart.

Throwing kids into situations they are ill prepared for is unwise, the last thing you want to do is destroy the confidence of promising prospects.
