To think, that a player with nearly 1,000 games played and nearly 700 career points could have been had by any team in the league that season.

Nice write up

Pach, were you the one who told the story about the Panthers passing on him while on waivers? Maybe it was on the radio. For those who don't know, the story is that the Panthers and Sabres shared the Amerks that year, and the Panthers wanted to pick him up, but thought it in bad taste because the Sabres were sharing their farm team.

Good luck to Pommer this year. He had a hell of a fast start to last year before the fatigue set in, and with the spectre of Reinhart sitting out looming, we may need that again.

I always loved Pommer. You need solid guys like him on this team. I am predicting 18+25 for him this year.

18-25 is pretty lofty for a 35 yr old who more cold than hot.

Meh.

I’d take him over dragon wizard bearskin sword warriors, but I’m excited about the kids.

He does still have some finish left for the PP so he's got value there for sure still. Speaking of, the PP is going to have an obviously* huge impact on where we finish this year, what are your PP #1 & PP #2 lines this year?

*obviously (great drinking game for player interviews BTW, obviously every time a player says "obviously", obviously.)

I'm still drunk from the Jason Botterill "it's a situation where/it's a scenario where" drinking game from the season-ending press conference

Happy mental-health/infrastructure/hurricane recovery/brown liquor month.
Pommer should be gone by tdl, and look for him to be working in the Sabres' broadcast booth as early as next year then onto the coaching staff the following year.

Here’s one area where Sabres season ticket holders can take solace. It costs less to possess a seat in Buffalo than in nearly every other NHL city. The Athletic researched season ticket prices for 27 NHL teams

Buffalo’s highest-priced season ticket is lower than any available number. Only Florida is cheaper behind the benches and net, while Colorado joins the Panthers in offering a better value up top.

Reinhart though...

I’m sure Sam will get done, but I’d rather it be sooner than later

I’m gonna be worried if Skinner isn’t extended by the time the season starts

You're joking, right? Pommer has had 60 pts once since 2012, and had 34 last year. I f he's higher than 4th line this year then we are in trouble.

Sam be worried.

It doesn't make sense to extend Skinner now. If we are out of the playoffs, we trade him. So an extended Skinner doesn't work for most playoff teams given cap limitations. If we are playoff bound, I expect Botts to push the idea.

Either way though, I'd actually be more worried if Skinner was being extended now. If he doesn't work, our team craps the bed again or if a good offer comes in, we'd be stuck. Let the chips fall first IMO.

I wouldn't get too worked up about Skinner. He hasn't played a single game with his new team and hasn't spent much time in NY yet. I would be more concerned around December. It's not like being traded to a contender and resigning right away. As long as the team is competitive and he can see that it's a team with a bright future, then I'm sure he will consider signing. Right now, I would not expect him to sign a long term contract.

I've thought about all those same things. Makes more sense for us as an organization right now to not rush getting him signed to something long term. Let the chips fall where they're going to after a month or so into the season at least and then maybe evaluate.
