Interesting that Hughes and Zamula are still around? I though they were only invited for rookie camp.

This is nice. What’s the deal for these two?

Is it weird that I think about who Hak will pick to take shootouts?

G, Jake, And NP?

Is JvR any good at it?

Giroux killed it in the shootout last year. I was actually thinking he had a goal, but the fake through the legs goal was a breakaway, not a shootout.

good news on shootouts is they can choose anyone they like, there is no chance they will be worse

JAKE DOTCHIN looks to be getting released by the Lightening. Interesting if true. thought he was promising right handed defender. 6'2''. 24 years old.

Nty we got enough D Men right now. Even with 2 on the IR we'll have 7 NHL guys on the roster.

If Vorobyev can earn the 3C spot, I'd also be fine with:

G-Coots-TK
JVR-Patrick-Voracek
Lindblom-Vorobyev-Simmonds

Vorobyev is a very good passer/playmaker which is what you need between Lindblom and Simmonds.

I think their forward group will be one of the better ones in the NHL and their D, already solid, will get better as the season goes on. The big questions mark, of course, is goaltending. If they can just get league average goaltending I think they can challenge for 1st in the division and win a round or perhaps two. If they get what they got in the 2nd half of last year they will struggle to make the playoffs and at best go down in round one.

And next year we should have a really solid top 12 plus our goaltending should be figured out by then........good times are coming

FWIW I think Ratcliffe will be a perfect replacement for Simmonds. I would imagine that Simmonds' primary responsibility (PP) gets covered mostly by JVR and Patrick, which leaves Ratcliffe to fill the hole at RW in the bottom 6. I think he projects to offer more at evens. He could be more than 1 year away, but it is one of those positions the Flyers are in that I think will end up falling into place pretty well (unlike trying to find 3 defense pairings)

I understand it's not football.

But just tell me what Duchene and Stone accomplish by playing. Again I understand they will to get paid. But other then that.

All the risk lies with the players in this situation.

How many countless player in the NHL go into a season and play on the last year of their contract? Should Simmonds sit out until he is re-signed? I don't see how the state of a team in terms of how good they'll be changes anything.

If he's going to roll the top 3 lines equally, does it really matter?
If, as Bill has mentioned before, Lindblom can play the right side, why not roll with:

G-Coots-Jake
JVR-Patrick-Lindblom
TK-Laughton-Simmonds
Raffl-Lehtera or Weal-Weal or NAK

or, better yet if Vorobyev can earn the 3C spot:

G-Coots-Jake
JVR-Patrick-Lindblom
TK-Vorobyev-Simmonds
Raffl-Laughton-Weal or NAK

- BiggE

Did Bill actually say that, because it would be surprising. I'm pretty sure Lindblom has never played on the right side in his career.

I like it except that Gudas and Myers are both RH shots, I think the D mix would be:

Provy/Ghost
Sanheim/Gudas
Hagg/Myers

I think they have a serious hole at 3C for this year. I’m not sure if Vorobyev is ready to step into a 3C role. I didn’t really see enough domination in the prospect game although I’m intrigued and I like the player. I just think he could benefit in a top line role on the phantoms for an extended period first. I’m expecting weal to be game 1 3C.

The defense is thin. We have the two studs and if we’re being honest...a group of 3rd pairing/#7 dmen. Sanheim hopefully takes another step this year but it’s not guaranteed.

We have one of the worst goaltending duos in the league.

I think it’s going to be about the same type of year.

Aside from the JVR signing nothing has really changed. Just have to hope the younger guys continue to progress and the vets that had tough a season, like simmonds, bounce back. That’s what this season is about

I agree to an extent. I thought Vorobyev was good in the prospects game, not quite as good as Frost or Lindblom, but good. He's heady, very good small plays, positioning is good, it was said by a few others that they remind him of Couts. I can see it a bit, but I think his natural skill is slightly higher but his IQ isn't as high, not a knock, more of an indication of how high Couts' IQ is.

I wouldn't have a problem with Weal to start the year as 3C, but I do think Laughton deserves a shot. I think that Laughton's best position is LW, but he can be the stop gap for now.

I think Sanheim is going to look real good, but it's going to take some time. He's always been a slower starter. I think he'll continue his play from his second time with the club for about 50 games, then the last 30, he'll take a giant step forward.
