I'd have a hard time coming up with any GM who's had more success at the job over the last 10 years. The fact he used to play with the wings doesn't change that, and it certainly doesn't make it a bad idea.

Having heard Yzerman's comments about the stranglehold that the GM job has on a man's time, I'd be very surprised if he took on another GM role, even in Detroit. He wants to spend more time with his family. Being a GM is one of the busiest jobs one can have. Especially during the summer with the draft, contract negotiations, free agency, etc. I could see Yzerman taking on a position with Detroit that ensures that he is home a lot more often, something like a Senior Advisor.

I could be wrong, but i don't see him taking another GM job.

Go to hell with that logic, Duff. You’re wrong and need to stop writing as many have been saying since you started here, and in Gertner’s case, before that.

The Captain must herald the next group of Wings. It is foretold by the Old Testement. Or something like that.

Bring Fedorov back as his AGM too. LFG!!!

Well in Detroit he wouldn't have to fly back and forth to get home...

Steve Yzerman is a proven GM with experience. Don't agree with this article. The author doesn't bring enough evidence to support the title of the article.

He never does. He writes fluff and then the random unsubstantiated article.

I don’t know what Yzermans intentions are, but calling it a bad idea is ridiculous, especially over fear of “legacy.” Yzerman now has hmmm experience and success. He is a competitor, I’m sure he wants to compete within the game of hockey. If he wants that job and Holland steps down after this season or the next when his contract is up, than why not. For a team that’s been struggling for a few years, it would also be a great fan move to have him back. I don’t think either party here would be that afraid of it failing.

Why not? Gonchar has a pretty decent input [as assistant] with the Pens!

This makes no sense. Yzerman is one of the top Executives in the NHL. He lives in the Detroit area. Does anyone in Philadelphia hate Bobby Clarke. Does anyone in Montreal curse at the name Bob Gainey? They didn't win cups as GM's and they had some controversial moments, but like Yzerman they are revered for what they were on the ice and hockey fans will always be able to separate the player from the GM.
