@SunGarrioch
Sources say the #Sens have dealt Erik Karlsson to the Sharks in exchange for Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, 2020 1st, 2019 2nd and two conditional picks.

- Stan_Bowman

The Sens have traded Erik Karlsson and Francis Perron to SJ for a 1st rd pick in 2019 or 2020, C-Chris Tierny, 2nd rd pick 2019, C-Josh Norris, LW-Rudolfs Balcers and D-Dylan DeMelo.

Sens also get a 2nd rd pick in 2021.  It becomes a first if the Sharks sign him and  SJ makes it to the final this season.

The Sens also get a 1rst in 2021 or 2022 if Karlsson plays for an eastern team in 2018/19.

Nothing would seem like enough for a guy like Karlsson.

Seems light to me but he's only on a 1-year deal, so better than him walking from OTT I guess.

Sucks he came to the West but at least it wasn't to the Central Division.

Agreed....he literally just got on the ice (per Powers and PB) and has yet to face a shot.

No question this whole thing is all about talking points and delivering the "same message" and "being on the same page"....fact is none of that matters if CC's body doesn't allow it.

BTW....that social media announcement for Seguin's extension.....that's how you do marketing. WEll done Dallas.

- I did not see "just" I saw "recently". It could have been a couple weeks or longer. I would consider that recent.
- I did not see anywhere that said that he has not faced a shot.
- How long have other NHL goalies been on the ice coming into training camp normally.
-We don't know how extensive his on ice work has been.
- How much value is being on the ice doing drills versus doing them on dry land. Most of it is movement, reflex, stretching related and tracking the puck.

You might be 100% correct. But instead of making assumptions I am willing to wait to see how things play out and more details become available.

Should be interesting to follow. How much Cup window do the Sharks have with Thornton 39 and Pavelski 36 with both being free agents next year.

Not sure I understand this - is this in case the Sharks move him at the TDL or something?

I'm surprised Ottawa would deal with San Jose again after the Hoffman situation.

Per Powers:

He was on the ice by himself a couple times recently, but he didn’t handle any pucks and there weren’t any shooters.

Subscribe to Athletic if you haven't and read Powers article. He mentions per his sources he has NOT faced any shots.

Proof is in the pudding once camp starts and if Crawford is A). on the ice, and )B. A full participant (taking shots, drills, etc)

Without Karlsson agreeing to an extension as of now, and assuming he doesn't by TDL, does Wilson roll the dice to win NOW and possibly lose him for nothing in the summer OR does he trade him and recoop some assets?

I did find it amusing Ottawa had that clause included.

Either way....that SJ PP is going to be out of control

Oh and getting back to our Keith debate....you can add SJ to a team Keith would NOT be a #1 or #2 on...….

Yes, most of their stars are @ or over 30. Pavelski is 34, Burns is 33, Vlasic is 31. Couture and Jones turn 30 this year.

May as well try to do it now. Get Jumbo his Cup.

Great point....Didn't realize Pavelski was that "old". Seems like San Jose has been on the cusp for over a decade now.

Wasn't the debate about being better than top 3, not a 1/2? Because if it was 1-2, San Jose would have already been on the list with Burns-Vlasic. Not that it would drastically change the list if you limited to 1-2 - maybe double it. Plus I remember someone putting Calgary and Boston on that list like they have more than one legit top pair guy on those rosters.

Top 3 list expanded to maybe 2-4 now? Definitively Nashville and San Jose but Tampa if you really value Stralman (I still take Keith and I looooove Stralman) and Carolina if you really value young guys who look like they could be amazing but haven't put it together yet.

Looks like we have competition for hughs. really sucks that this last draft looks like a top 7 and then the rest of the lottery is basically all the same. Maybe I'm wrong about boquist but I would have given up a lot to have Zadina or Hughs instead.

Palat is typically on the Johnson-Point line and he has some size at 6' 190lbs. JT Miller (6'1" 218lbs) plays with Stamkos (who isnt small) and the smallish Kucherov. They have more balance than the Cat-Schmaltz-Kane line would have defensively IMO. That line would score a bunch for the Hawks, but I would also expect very extended defensive zone shifts and they would struggle to get the puck back against a big bodied cycle.
- EnzoD

The Palat-Point-Johnson line is only 6 pounds heavier and an inch shorter across all the players than Debrincat-Schmaltz-Kane so Idk if that's an argument against the comparison. JT Miller was the only player you mention that was very big as well - Stamkos is smaller than Toews/Saad and Kuckerov is Kane size. The Hawks don't have anyone like JT Miller though, that's true. Good combo of size and skill - doesn't play with their little triplets line, though.

However, I do agree with you the line of Debrincat-Schmaltz-Kane shouldn't be together. Or at least I'd be really hesitant about it. Not really because of the size (though it's not ideal) but because of their style of play. Compared to the Lightning smaller line, Palat and Johnson are know for their defensive abilities and bulldogged puck retrieval skills. They're small, but they're small in the way Shaw was/is. No one on the proposed Hawks line fits that description. A line needs at least one options of someone who can fetch a puck, for lack of a better term. And while I think Schmaltz is underrated defensively and Kane has gotten decent over the years, that's still a weak line defensively.

This isn't me dismissing size as an issue - I'm not - because I do think they're a little light to be a line. It's just that size wouldn't be as factor if they had the other two qualities I mention above. A line can be small but they have to make up for that lack of size in other ways and I'm not confident that Debrincat-Schmaltz-Kane do. I think they'd have a positive but close goal differential or pretty even and that's not enough imo.

FWIW, heard at 2:57PM Eastern Hawks have been in talks with Ottawa as well—about "a center."

Justin, anything to this?

Duchene is what the thread made it sound like. Would this move Schmaltz to wing or 3C? Probably getting ahead of myself...
