Bobby Ryan would be a premier scorer in this league if his hands weren't always broken.

Worst contract in the league. Four more years at a 7+ mil a year cap hit and a full no movement clause. All of this for a 31 year old who hasn't hit 20 goals or 40 points in the past two seasons.

On Eberle, depends on the price. Not gonna give the Islanders much. He is a free agent next year. Perhaps wait until then and let Hall make the pitch.

Zach Parise contract gives it a good run I would say. So glad we arent stuck with that puppy... 7 more years at 7+ mil for a 34 year old who hasnt played 82 games in like 7 years and has had what seems his entire body reconstructed lol....

Tom Wilson is the new worst, but yeah. Ryan's string of awful injuries makes his contract an albatross. Feel for the guy because he would have been really good.

I'd say Minnesota is boned, except both Parise and Suters contracts are so front loaded that they would be attractive to a low budget, need to get to cap floor team like Arizona once those players are past their usefulness. By redoing the cap recapture penalties in the last CBA all the NHL did was open a new form of circumventing with these 1-2 million real salary, 7 mil plus cap hit contracts for teams like Arizona to gobble up.

In reality though, is there a team in worse shape than Ottawa? It's dreadful the way that team is run. They are going to have to trade a once in a lifetime defenseman for way below market value, Stone can walk at seasons end and their likely top 5 1st round pick got traded to Colorado for Duchene, who can also walk at seasons end.

Can somone clear something up for me..

Example. Player has 7 yr deal
9, 8, 7, 6 ,5, 4,3 mil = 6 mil cap hit

If you trade for him at the year he makes 3 mil, is the cap hit on your team still 6 mil?

Yes. Cap hit for every year is always the average of the total salary of the contract divided by years. The catch is if the player has a contract like you just listed and retires or is bought out, there is a recapture penalty for the years that the total salary was above the cap hit. So in your example if the player retires after year 4, the salary exceeded the cap hit by a total of 6 million and the team will have "dead space" of about two million for the next 3 years.

Thats stupid. I think the cap ht should only be against the team that signed the contract. If player gets traded his cap hit is his salary that year.

One of the rare exceptions where the cap per year differs within the same contract is when signed [as RFA] within the season, as seen with Trouba 2016-18 as example: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/jacob-trouba
