There is no way Bergevin should accept an unfair return for Paciorety. If he does, there could be a lynch mob of angry French fans whom might utter a few choosen words we understand - swear words

What do you think is fair? Because Skinner set the value for him earlier. Maybe closer to the TDL, the Habs could squeak out a 1st instead of a high 2nd, but that's it for rental and Pacioretty hasn't wanted to sign an extension with the clubs the Habs want to trade to so far (LA). At some point, they're going to have to settle on any return because it'll keep being the most talked about thing in Montreal until he's gone and they cannot risk losing him for nothing when he reached UFA status.
Also, the issue around this isn't about whether the team will get value, it's about how Bergevin is handling the situation period. Like with Boston, the go-to when they've decided to trade a player is to kind of badmouth them in someway, in this case, leak that Pacioretty "asked" for a trade. Now, Pacioretty's agent is saying that did not happen and that Patches would sign an extension now with the Habs but that wasn't offered to him. Bergevin is trying to make it seem like Patches is done with Montreal so fans will be less upset when he's gone when in reality the org wants to go a different direction. They should just admit they want to get younger assets and call it instead of trying to hurt the rep of the player.
