Those wild card spots will come down to who avoids the most devastating injuries and overall depth. For Devils it is how long Cory is out and the shape in which he returns... and if Kinkaid can avoid giving up goals on first minute.

Good read Todd and I would agree to seeing a slight decline in points. We will definitely be a bubble team IMO.

Kinkaid has proven to be a pretty inconsistent goalie. Backing him up with Eddie Lack going into this season is scary. I still have a faith in Cory Schneider being a high quality net minder if he can get healthy. But it's going to take a while and the team could find itself in a hole early on; and they're not built to really run other teams down from behind.

I would have liked to keep Appleby in case this became a goaltending poop show. Just if it went bad to give it a shot; not because I'm convinced he's better.

I said last preseason the Devs would surprise everyone, they did.

They will again and have a better season.

The team is filled with such great work ethic that shouldn't be underestimated.

In terms of work and passion, Coleman will drive the lower half of lineup while Hall drives the top half.

Watch and be amazed.

Truly a huge spectrum of possible results for the Devils this coming season that wouldn't be that shocking. Should be fun.

Yes KK always gave up that first goal early, but he locked it down after that. Its a weird thing to watch, and kept us on edge, but the results speak for themselves. He locked that poop down !

I wouldn't call a .913 save percentage and a 2.77 GAA exactly locking it down. He had a bad first half. Then a great run. Then he got a bit exposed in the playoffs. His glove side is mess and he get beaten there a ton. I'm not trying to dump on the guy but he's probably an acceptable back up and not much more.

Maybe its me, but those numbers are awesome for a backup in todays high scoring nhl. I will take those numbers any day for our goal keep.

I DO NOT share your optimism. Sure the numbers are decent for a backup but the problem is we will need him to be a starter for the beginning of the season (maybe 15-20 games). Second, what happens if Corey has a set back and KK is in net even longer? I have little faith in Kinkaid long term and feel he will be exposed for who he is this season (i.e., an AHL player). I really hope I am dead wrong! And Eddie "Lacks" the ability to be a starter too

The numbers are what they are, but he was also a mess the first half last season; Great down the stretch and then inconsistent in the playoffs. I hope he proves us wrong but there is a lot of reason for concern. Especially with another unreliable guy behind him.

Reminds me of the Yankees pitching staff prior to the season starting (i.e., full of question marks). So it could either work well or we'll be a lottery team. Only time will tell but I think goaltending will be more of an Achilles heel this season than the D.

Totally agree. The defense might not be particularly good but they should be decent and comparable to last year. Despite our complaining the team was 17th in the league in goals against. Not good but not a train wreck.

We lost Moore who everyone complained was a defensive liability so it's reasonable to think someone should be able to play defense as well as him. I say put Gryba and Santini in the lineup to knock the piss out of people.

I think Kinkaid's puck handling helps the Devils break out of their end more than is emphasized. He can make neutral zone passes, where Cory never could. Obviously Cory is the better at stopping the puck, but with this defense his lack of ability to handle the puck is a huge detriment. I think its apples and oranges here with these two goalies skillsets and for whatever reason the team plays well with KK.
