I remember Kurt Walker when he played for the Leafs. He may have been the worst player on the ice when Sittler scored his 5 goals, but evidently was the best person out there.

In the years that followed Walker required 17 surgeries to repair injuries and was critical of the NHL Alumni organization which he believed does not support retired players enough financially.

I mean no disrespect to Mr. Walker who I remember watching him play but I don't understand what he means by the above statement. What job in the world helps you financially after you retire? You get a pension if you play enough games and make very good money while you are playing to buy RRSP's etc. What am I missing here?

What you are missing is that when Kurt and the others of their era played they were literally "blue collar" workers with "blue collar" wages and meager pensions that did not start for decades. https://www.theglobeandma...-in-pain/article15699536/

Now I know what your saying. Yes they help with PTSD etc etc but what I referred to in the quote is Walker said FINANCIALLY they are not getting help.

That was my point that once you retire I don't know of any employer who will help you out financially.
